Dear Johnny, What’s Up With You Promoting A Conference Named After A Carnal TV Program?

by @ 2:22 pm. Filed under Nuts on Parade

Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) President Johnny M. Hunt, he seems to enjoy hosting various conferences. He also enjoys using his pulpit for politics, is against the doctrines of grace and has used some questionable language towards sin at times.

But this post is about an upcoming Johnny Hunt conference. His so-called “Temptation Island” men’s conference. Now Christians can certainly appreciate a desire to help Christians with their contending against the flesh. But the good introduces leaven, when it is MARKETED using a name that is identical to a carnal TV program. This is seeker friendly Arminianism, using the slogans of the world, while claiming it’s all for a good cause. It’s on par with the Purpose Driven Madness, that the blog A Little Leaven exposes all the time. It appears the Rick Warren influences within the SBC are the kind of thing Johnny likes.

Proponents of such leaven, consider this.

1 Corinthians 8:10-13 (New American Standard Bible)

10 For if someone sees you, who have knowledge, dining in an idol’s temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be strengthened to eat things sacrificed to idols?

11 For through your knowledge he who is weak is ruined, the brother for whose sake Christ died.

12 And so, by sinning against the brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.

13 Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause my brother to stumble.

Paul would not be found in an idol’s temple and I’m sure he would not grant anything he did in ministry a title, that was made popular through ungodly entertainment. We wound the conscience of our weaker brothers and sisters, when we promote titles that are known to have come from ungodly things.

Romans 14:21 (New American Standard Bible)

21 It is good not to eat meat or to drink wine, or to do anything by which your brother stumbles.

We are not to be found in promotion of things that cause others to stumble. Today, Christians usually avoid drinking wine, because of concern that it may cause those who are weaker to stumble into alcoholism. Likewise, we don’t want to promote Christian events with titles, that are known to be the title of carnal things. We never want to cause anyone to think we take inappropriate entertainment lightly.

Dear Johnny Hunt, if your desire is to win those who need Christ and help those who know Him, you have no need to play off temptation in your efforts.
