Maybe new, maybe they’re replaying old footage, but the TBN Pimp-a-thon train is rolling for its year end scam-fest. Rod Parsley is one of the cadre of Pulpit Pimps TBN is trotting out, to tickle ears and devour households. (Parsley is a former member of the John McCain team.)
Our brother Matt Green was able to capture some of the video footage. The audio and video are out of sync, the audio is well ahead of the video, but you’ll still be able to recognize what’s going on, A SCAM.
Rod is proud of his “name it and claim it” position. Announcing Mark 11:22-24 as his foundation for being that way. Well let’s see what that passage of scripture says.
Mark 11:22-24 (New American Standard Bible)
|
Now Jesus was not saying to act like Rod Parsley does. Asking for things out of personal greed. He even had people calling out “show me the money”. Jesus and the Apostles NEVER spoke about a “year of super abundant fertility”. James 4 and 1 Timothy 6 totally condemns what Rod is doing and promoting. Rod is a false teacher of a FALSE GOSPEL. Jesus was speaking to those with him like Peter and even in their ministry efforts, they never acted like Parsley. They were in poverty themselves, not naming and claiming wealth for themselves. In Peter’s time, you didn’t spend days living in the dwelling of a tanner if you could afford not to, but Acts 9:43 shows Peter did. Are we to feel Rod Parsley is more a servant of God than Peter, because Parsley wears expensive looking attire?
Now look again at that Bible passage above and think literally about what Rod was doing. He was NOT asking God for anything. He was asking people watching him on TV for money, that’s not keeping with the scripture. And he was asking people to send him money to make money. That’s not keeping with the scripture, because those who fall for his game and send money are not asking God and believing His Word in truth. They’re instead BUYING into a scam. Just like Rod, they’re seeking a reward in this life based off interaction with another person. But Rod (and TBN) is taking his tangible ill gotten gains up front and leaving the deluded followers, to sit and wait for something to come their way. Just so anything that does come their way he can take credit for having a hand in and if nothing comes their way he’ll claim somehow it was their fault. It’s all a cycle of greed. His greed being fed off the greed of others and in some cases off the desperation of others. Who believe the words of a man who hacks scripture. Rather than believe the actual words on the page. If the people listening to Rod have a real need and actually believed Mark 11:22-24 themselves, they would not send Rod Parsley a dime, they’d pray to God. That scripture does not say payoff TBN, it says pray. Given the example of the Apostles, we know the things to request are needs based, not personal desire based. Most watching Rod probably have at least a TV, working power and maybe even a cable TV service subscription. So most watching him are doing way better than having seriously dire needs.
It is also important to respect the sovereignty of God and understand God does not owe us anything. While we owe Him more than we can ever pay. A debt only paid through true belief in the Lord Jesus. Who paid our debt through the sacrifice of His own life and His resurrection grants those who believe salvation and the gift of eternal life with Him. The Jesus who taught humility, not the false Jesus some on TV claim lived as a wealthy man on earth.
But Rod Parsley is promising promotions, houses, reversed mortgages and such. Going right into a woman’s purse right on camera. (I guess he simply couldn’t resist.)
Now let’s review how an Apostle dealt with someone trying to get a gift of God in exchange for money.
Acts 8:18-23 (New American Standard Bible)
|
People who claim to follow Christ are going to have seriously examine themselves. Do they want to listen to the man on TV, talking about cars, houses, promotions and playing off their emotions regarding their children, or do they rather want to believe the Word of God and place their hope in Jesus Christ, for a reward after this life? And also pray to God regarding their children, while training them up as scripture commands, instead of feeling righteous children can be bought? Because playing as if God is about wealth for Christians now, leaves many scammed, cheated and may prove them unworthy of any eternal reward. Besides, that money would do better going to people with real needs, especially saints in need, not TBN.
There’s also more to that passage of scripture than Rod mentioned.
Mark 11:25-26 (New American Standard Bible)

Forgive that viper named Rod Parsley, for the evil he’s doing, but know to avoid him. His type are described in 2 Peter 2.

Who put these con-men in the pulpit in the firstplace…yeah, i know God has a purpose for allowing and that he’s sovereign and in control, but stll :-/ Plus none of them have any business remaining in the pulpit.

Don’t worry, they won’t be prancing and acting up for long. The Lord will return and He will repay.

It has always amazed me that God cannot know you have faith in Him until you show it by giving money.
How many of the faithful listed in Hebrews 11 had to show their faith by giving beyond their means? It was their belief and not their money that was counted as righteousness!

I watched for about 10 minutes last night while Benny Hinn carried on his voodoo act. Then while he was angrily trying to justify needing money, he said: “It takes millions of dollars to preach the Gospel”.
Me and my wife both gasped out loud! My wife said no it takes millions of dollars to fly around the world in your private jet and stay in 10,000 a night hotel rooms.
I am simply astonished that this is going unchallenged by the so-called preachers in the church. I guess Hinn and others are greasing their palms with mammon so their mouths will stay shut.
IndependentConservative reply on November 7th, 2008 at 10:09 am :
Well you know many get upset when you call out the false teachers by name. Now consider the “stop snitchin’” efforts of street thugs. See something in common? I do!
Matt got video of Benny from last night.

Of course you know Benny does not like material that exposes him staying up on YouTube, so know it may not be available for long.

It amazing all of this Pimp-A-Thon crap is timed such when the headlines are literally screaming with information regarding heavy job losses…http://abcnews.go.com/Business/Economy/story?id=6199501&page=1
IndependentConservative reply on November 7th, 2008 at 11:46 am :
They run the Pimp-a-thons twice a year, November and Spring. The fact there are economic issues does nothing to make them consider changing anything. Their type never go places with a 2 Corinthians 12:14 prefix on their messages. (Unless it’s an area that is already highly skeptical of them and then they’ll do like some dope dealers and give some away free. Hoping to make their money later once they’ve got enough addicts.)
November 7th, 2008 at 11:47 am
I actually thought TBN would be showing re-runs from last year. When I watched an episode earlier in the week they were talking about the downturn in the economy.
ncatina reply on November 7th, 2008 at 11:49 am :
psalm100, what I am finding is that the message is virtually the same each time; the only things changing are the years, increased pounds, hairlines and hair coverage (or lack of it).
IndependentConservative reply on November 7th, 2008 at 11:49 am :
Sometimes they mix up the footage. I’ve seen times where one hour they are speaking about current events and the next they’re re-running earlier fleecing footage, that says nothing associated with anything that would “date” the material.

Financial walls closing in on church.

Maybe TBN can help them avoid foreclosure.
ncatina reply on November 7th, 2008 at 3:00 pm :
Hopefully, TBN will be next…..
November 7th, 2008 at 4:04 pm
TBN won’t be next. That’s what’s so ironic about their fundraising appeals. They have $300 million in liquid assets and millions more coming in every year. That doesn’t include all the studios, property and homes they have around the country that are completely paid for. As Paul Jr boasted in this fall’s fleece-a-thon, they don’t have a penny of debt. Yet still they beg …
ncatina reply on November 7th, 2008 at 5:04 pm :
I saw that too, but the thing is, just as with everyone else and every other industry, property loses value, donations will dry up as expenses to operate everything and functioning with staff rises….give it time…
November 7th, 2008 at 5:03 pm
We have been watching a good deal of TBN’s Fall 2008 Begathon. (I feel I have to explain why, so as not to be considered one of their ‘disciples’
We live in a very rural area, won’t get satellite, can’t get cable and don’t really care, as most of what is on T.V. is trash. We get only the 3 networks stations, PBS and two UHF channels - one of which carries TBN. Unfortunately, that’s the one with the best reception…)
OK, I better stop making excuses - sounds like I ‘protesteth too much’…
In any event, as ‘psalm100′ and others have noticed, they are indeed airing reruns. In fact, I think I’ve seen only one segment on one evening that was live. Everything else is from last spring or even from a year ago.
I was up early the other morning and saw Carlton Pearson, that is, the “pre-makeover Carlton Pearson”.
They either think their fleeced flocks are so stupid as to not notice, or they don’t care. As ‘ncatina’ mentioned, the message is still the same.
What’s mildly interesting is why they have resorted to airing reruns? Maybe their non-profit “Holy Land Experience” cost them too much to acquire and with Jan redecorating the whole place they can’t afford to pay their guests for appearing on the telethon AND at the amusement park…
eucatastrophe reply on November 7th, 2008 at 6:37 pm :
I think some is reruns, but Benny’s stuff has been new both nights (although it was the same basic message as last year: disaster’s coming, but you can avoid it by giving to TBN). You can see my montage from his performance last year: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vVIdQ8BTJCQ. I’m also pretty sure it’s live, because he was mentioning the elections in one of the clips and mocking Steve Brock for being a Republican. Also the R.W. Schambach performance was live, because he referenced speaking a year ago on the Jubilee–a clip that I’ve also got on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zH1gBMrlu_w Now, I didn’t get a chance to see the Atlanta performances, which could be taped, as I noticed the same clowns were there as last year … Jentezen Franklin, Steve Munsey, Jamal Bryant and Jesse DuPlantis. The bottom line is that the fact that they do not announce that they are prerecorded and put the counters and the time appeals is just one more indication of how gullible they think their audience is and how morally bankrupt they are themselves.
IndependentConservative reply on November 7th, 2008 at 6:40 pm :
They’ve found their GAWD works the same every time they air the clips… And they sadly always find some deluded folks to send them money right away…
truthis reply on November 10th, 2008 at 9:44 pm :
Could they be re-airing because of the thousands of grands for each major speaker they have to pay during telethon? major folks a bit more…Just askin?

Jamal Bryant-There are simply No “Words’If I had One question to ask Him It would be-Hey Jamal-Remember Judas Iscariot ,The 30 pieces of silver etc. .Let me ask You, Who replaced Him after He Hung Himself,Actually You got 2 choices ,I’ll let the name change not Be in effect.I would say He probably doesn’t Know!

Friday Evening November,7- TBN Telethon Update- Paula White during the Course of Slinging Her Untruthful Words about Our Lords earthly ministry stops and Pledges $20,000 to buy Satellite Dishes For the Good Dr.Paul Crouch. Is it Live or is It Memorex? If Its live She should Check her mailbox, because This Morning They have defaulted to the Tune Of $12 Million on Her and Her former Husbands Church facility in Tampa Florida. But if Not She should have Known they was headed for Problems with her direct Line of The Prophetic Knowledge She claims is at her disposal .Cannot People See Their Lies? Unbelievable
IndependentConservative reply on November 8th, 2008 at 11:01 am :
Often when one pulpit pimp makes a promise to give money to another, there’s already a back room deal in place. So you can’t believe when they make claims like that.
And keep in mind, people like Paula have to pay Paul Crouch for “airtime”
.
