One More Reason I’ll Never Purchase a Book by Richard Abanes! He’s Had Apprising.org Shut Down, for Calling Out His Running Cover for Rick Warren. (*Updated*)

A big hat tip to Covina for sending me this.

Blog Shut Down by ‘Christian’ Apologist’s Threat

Contact: Pastor Dustin Segers, Coalition of Concerned Bloggers, ChristianResearchNetwork.com, 336-848-7197

MEDIA ADVISORY, July 28 /Christian Newswire/ — Pastor Dustin Segers submits the following and is available for comment:

How safe are our blogs? That question was raised again when on the evening of July 26, 2008, a popular religious blog was shut down by an Internet service provider. A complaint filed by Christian author and apologist, Richard Abanes, claiming that one article on the religious opinion site, Apprising.org, had slandered him, caused the web host, IPower, to send its publisher, Ken Silva, a 48-hour warning to remove the offending piece or be taken down. In that the piece was not believed to be slander at all, but rather religious and theological opinion, he refused to be forced into censoring his site by Richard Abanes. The site went down.

There are serious implications here for all bloggers, regardless of what sort of blog they publish. Anyone who has a complaint about your views can claim that you have engaged in slander and the ISP Terms of Service usually allow for the companies to remove your website if you don’t take the material in question down. The First Amendment means nothing in these cases. ISP’s cannot and will not explore the claims of slander and simply notify bloggers to remove whatever is causing the problem. This opens the door for anyone to censor what a blogger writes online.

Everyone who values the right to read and publish blogs on the Internet has a vested interested in the issue. There is growing concern in the blog world over this, and a number of servers are popping up that offer “First Amendment” hosting. These are web hosts which require a court order before they will remove someone’s website. Their day has clearly come.

Richard Abanes is a Rick Warren front man, who gets ticked whenever anybody calls him out for it. He especially does not like when anybody warns saints of what he’s doing. See the post on Jesus Christology titled More Evidence That Rick Warren Is Working For One Global Religion. There you see in the comments Richard Abanes attempted to pressure Job to remove a LINK he has to this post on John Baker’s blog: Rick Warren Apologist Richard Abanes: Going soft on Mormonism, Is this the direction Rick Warren is Heading?

You can also see the comments of Job’s post comments where me, Job, John Baker and another brother contended against Richard Abanes.

Well Rick Warren cover man (and soft on Mormonism) Abanes may have had Apprising.org shut down, but for a limited time, you can still view all the Apprising.org articles about Richard Abanes in Google’s cache, by clicking this link and then the “Cached” link under a page you wish to view. No doubt Abanes will seek to have Google purge their cache, so get copies ASAP!

And Richard, you know you don’t even need to try making a comment here, because I already told you I’m done with you and won’t let you have a single word here.

Richard Abanes has again proven he’s not a man who respects the Word of God. Instead of respecting 1 Corinthians 6 and not going legal on a matter of theology, he’s gone using legal methods in crying “slander”, to have a Christian’s web site taken offline. How is a real Christian to respond to being mocked?

1 Peter 2:21-25 (New American Standard Bible)

21 For you have been called for this purpose, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving you an example for you to follow in His steps,

22 WHO COMMITTED NO SIN, NOR WAS ANY DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH;

23 and while being reviled, He did not revile in return; while suffering, He uttered no threats, but kept entrusting Himself to Him who judges righteously;

24 and He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live to righteousness; for by His wounds you were healed.

25 For you were continually straying like sheep, but now you have returned to the Shepherd and Guardian of your souls.

I’ve always found Apprising.org to be a site that stood for the truth of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. And Richard Abanes’ actions only further prove the site to be good, but never will I purchase any of Richard Abanes’ material.

update 7/28/2008 4:33PM:
Apprising.org is back online, well not the domain name yet. But Pastor Ken Silva already has his blog back online at this IP address. I’m sure the domain name is in the process of being switched, which may take up to a day or 2.

The last post Pastor Ken has up is titled RICHARD ABANES TO SUE APPRISING MINISTRIES OVER DEFAMATION-LIBEL?. He notes 1 Corinthians 6:1-6. I think he should have also included verses 7 through 12.

1 Corinthians 6:7-12 (New American Standard Bible)

7 Actually, then, it is already a defeat for you, that you have lawsuits with one another. Why not rather be wronged? Why not rather be defrauded?

8 On the contrary, you yourselves wrong and defraud. You do this even to your brethren.

9 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor homosexuals,

10 nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers, will inherit the kingdom of God.

11 Such were some of you; but you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and in the Spirit of our God.

12 All things are lawful for me, but not all things are profitable. All things are lawful for me, but I will not be mastered by anything.

Those additional verses are very pertinent, because Richard Abanes is the one who wrongs and defrauds in using legal action against a Christian. Not allowing himself to be criticized by a Christian. Not able to digest verse 7, that even if Pastor Ken had wronged and defrauded him, employing Matthew 18:15-17 was the appropriate course of action, not legal threats. He could not simply allow himself to feel as if he was wronged and leave it be, saying he was wronged and leave it there. No, Richard Abanes makes sure his lawyer’s phone number is near by and starts making legal threats when he is wronged.

Ken’s post quotes a full copy of the letter from Abanes to his web hosting company. Check out a few statements from it below:

By way of introduction, I am an award-winning, bestselling author/journalist with twenty books published by major publishing houses. My public reputation, therefore is of paramount importance to my livelihood and career.

Before turning this situation over to my attorneys, I respectfully request that IPOWERWEB.NET / IPOWERWEB.COM remove this particular article from it?s servers, and notify Ken Silva to cease and desist the posting similar articles. I have no wish to name IPOWERWEB.NET / IPOWERWEB.COM in a legal suit, and hope to resolve this issue as quickly and easily as possible.

Notice what is PARAMOUNT to Richard Abanes, his public reputation, so he can keep convincing people to BUY HIS BOOKS. Now I ask you, does Richard Abanes write books to promote the gospel, or to peddle in the Lord’s name?

2 Corinthians 2:17 (New American Standard Bible)

17 For we are not like many, peddling the word of God, but as from sincerity, but as from God, we speak in Christ in the sight of God.

It is apparent to me, that Richard Abanes is about peddling in the Lord’s Name. His reputation is what he really cares about, for his own belly!

Here are some scriptures, that Richard Abanes and anyone claiming to be a Christian needs to think about long and hard.

Romans 16:17-18 (New American Standard Bible)

17 Now I urge you, brethren, keep your eye on those who cause dissensions and hindrances contrary to the teaching which you learned, and turn away from them.

18 For such men are slaves, not of our Lord Christ but of their own appetites; and by their smooth and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the unsuspecting.

and

Philippians 3:14-21 (New American Standard Bible)

14 I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, have this attitude; and if in anything you have a different attitude, God will reveal that also to you;

16 however, let us keep living by that same standard to which we have attained.

17 Brethren, join in following my example, and observe those who walk according to the pattern you have in us.

18 For many walk, of whom I often told you, and now tell you even weeping, that they are enemies of the cross of Christ,

19 whose end is destruction, whose god is their appetite, and whose glory is in their shame, who set their minds on earthly things.

20 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which also we eagerly wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ;

21 who will transform the body of our humble state into conformity with the body of His glory, by the exertion of the power that He has even to subject all things to Himself.

If we Christians are living for the sake of reputation, for money, for career, to the point we’d spark legal challenges against brethren. Are we who do so really acting like the example given to us? Are we who do such acting like Christians? How many of the many who spoke against Paul did he sue? As I’ve show in other scripture above, Christ was mocked without reviling in return. So is a Christian acting like Him, to go to court against a “brother”, or to even suggest it may be done? Certainly not! These things cause hindrances and are ungodly actions. So we can only pray, that if Richard Abanes really is a child of God and that if we are the Lord’s, that God will reveal Richard Abanes’ error to him and that God may reveal to us when we have a different attitude from what is sound instruction.

Richard Abanes is a man who I find is best avoided. Any man who defends a false teacher and carries on in this manner which is ungodly activity, is not a man I feel comfortable around at all. I’ve given him the warning of Luke 6:39-40 and if the Lord wills, one day he will turn from this evil he’s doing. So many saints have warned Abanes, but he will not relent. It’s sad to see a man call himself a “Christian” yet act so ungodly. I will have nothing to do with the man and warn saints he is best avoided. Keep the wicked man away from you, 1 Corinthians 5.

The Nation of Islam. A Cult of a Cult.

by @ 2:23 pm. Filed under The Truth Shall Set you Free!

In some cases, a cult can spawn other smaller groups. Such is the case with the cult of Muhammad (Islam, big cult), which was leveraged to develop the doctrine of the race cult known as the Nation of Islam (a smaller cult, but just as much a cult).

Below are some videos, that cover some of the particulars of the highly erred teachings of the Nation of Islam.

Please view both videos in full before making comments.

(If either video appears to pause for no reason at any point, just manually advance it a few seconds and it should start playing again. At least that worked for me.)

In addition to what was presented in the videos, I’d like to add:

(Efforts to promote the cult of Muhammad or its race cult child the NOI are not allowed in comments here, 2 John 1:10-11)

Todd Bentley, Baptising in the Name of the Father, Son and Bam.

by @ 10:41 am. Filed under Nuts on Parade

And the man hosting Todd Bentley lied, to cover it all up.

PASTOR LIES FOR TODD- LAKELAND

And those media reports are still rolling in.

Faith healer Todd Bentley called a fraud, false teacherBaptist Press

A new faith healer is making headlines for his claims of supernatural powers, but conservative evangelical leaders warn that Todd Bentley is a fraud and a false teacher.

Bentley, leader of a revival that began in Lakeland, Fla., this spring, is known for his multiple body piercings and tattoos, his violent healing techniques, his claims of angelic visions and “holy” laughter and “holy” vibrating shakes. He even claims to have raised dozens of people from the dead.

In one YouTube video, Bentley, who is Canadian, can be seen kneeing in the stomach a man with stage 4 colon cancer. When the man bent over in obvious pain from the blow, Bentley said, “I had to be obedient to the Lord, sir, but I believe that colon cancer is coming right out of your body now.” In other videos, Bentley explains how he kicked an elderly lady in the face, banged a crippled woman’s legs on a platform “like a baseball bat,” choked a man, “leg-dropped” a pastor, and hit a man so hard it dislodged a tooth — all because God supposedly told him to do so.

The Associated Press said it could not confirm any of a dozen cases in which Bentley’s ministry claimed medical verification for his miracles.

Bentley claims to be visited regularly by angels, including a 20-foot-tall angel in his apartment on one occasion and on another occasion an angel that knocked him out of his body. One angel’s name supposedly is Emma. Bentley also says that Jesus Himself appears to him.

Bentley claimed on another occasion to have been transported four to five hours into the future to see what would occur at a revival meeting he was scheduled to lead.

Sometimes, portions of his service are spent with him lying on the stage laughing, with the audience — all supposedly caught up in the Spirit — laughing, too. Other times, people lay on the stage jerking violently and appearing as if they’re experiencing a seizure; supposedly they are simply full of the Spirit.

Bentley recently announced that he will be leaving the Lakeland meetings in order to conduct meetings overseas. His last day at Lakeland is scheduled for Aug. 23.

Bentley claims he has the anointing of the mid-20th-century preacher William Branham, a faith healer who denied the Trinity and “prophesied that by 1977 all denominations would be consumed by the World Council of Churches under the control of the Roman Catholics, the rapture would take place, and the world would be destroyed,” Hanegraaff’s website states.

At a recent Bentley healing service in Louisville, Ky., attended by Baptist Press, claims of the blind being healed, the dead being raised and visitations from Jesus were all on display.

In an evening service July 17 at Evangel World Prayer Center, Bentley claimed that several dramatic healings had taken place earlier that day.

Baptist Press noted at least five people in wheelchairs in the meeting who appeared to remain uncured throughout the service.

“I want to hear you contend for your miracle because the power of God, that healing anointing is here right now, and God is beginning to move and we’re releasing that river of healing right now,” he said.

At the time of the offering, Bentley suggested attendees would not receive a blessing unless they gave generously.

“People get stingy when they give, but they want a generous blessing,” he said. “I’m telling you, there’s something about you reap what you sow. So you think about that as I sow. You think about what God wants you to plant as a revival seed.”

But while giving his testimony later in the evening, Bentley said he heard the Gospel from the Bible many times as a teenager but could not believe without a supernatural experience. He was saved only when God spoke audibly to him in his drug dealer’s trailer and told him that was his last chance to make a decision for Christ, Bentley said.

Bentley was called to ministry, he said, in 1998 when a “glory liquid honey cloud” came through the kitchen of his apartment and into the living room. It rested over his head, and the “manifest tangible presence of God” did not leave his life for three months. During that time Bentley was “slain in the Spirit” from four to 12 hours per day and saw many visions, he said.

After the three months were complete, Bentley said Jesus appeared to him on Mother’s Day and told him he would never return to secular work again.

“[Jesus] said, ‘I have a ministry for you, and it begins today, Mothers Day 1998.’ He said, ‘You will go all over the world, and you’re going to bring a healing revival,’” Bentley said.

He added that Benny Hinn and other faith healers influenced him in ministry.

Todd Bentley is a liquid honey FRAUD. Just say no to drugs!

Heretic Todd Bentley Claims He Moves God.

by @ 12:43 pm. Filed under Nuts on Parade

Any man who thinks he moves God is serving a false god.

Todd Bentley’s Demonic Theology

(Hat tip Jesus Christology.)

If God Himself is not at work, there is no gift. If God Himself is not at work, there is no faith. If it’s not God moving, it’s not God. Man does not and cannot will a move of God of man’s own accord. So if man is moving and God is not moving, it’s not God.

2 Peter 1:20-21 (New American Standard Bible)

20 But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation,

21 for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.

It is evident, from totally rotten fruit he bears, that Todd Bentley is a self glorifying heretic, in desperate need of repentance.

Keeping Faith in Jesus Christ, Even in Persecution. The Martin & Gracia Burnham Story.

by @ 1:48 pm. Filed under Evangelicals Under Attack

One TV show I like to watch is the program “Locked up Abroad” on the National Geographic Channel. It usually involves some unsaved person, who thinks they can get away with some crime overseas, getting caught and learning they were way better off than they thought they were before they made a bad decision for some quick cash. And usually you can see as they lead up to committing the crime, how the person even in common grace was getting plenty of hints they should not commit the crime, but they do it anyway. Often it ends sadly, because usually the person profiled gets out of prison eventually, so they feel that all is well, but they usually never come to know saving grace, they never come to know Jesus as Lord. So for me it’s a sad ending, to see many endure such and still not knowing they need a savior for more than their body. The Lord’s will be done, who He grants repentance to is of His perfect will. Still I like watching the show, because I find it has plenty of educational value about criminal justice around the world. But I just watched an episode the other day, that involved some Christian missionaries, that were “Locked up Abroad”.

Here’s the program’s description of their story and it is supposed to air again on August 2nd at 9PM.

Locked up Abroad – Philippines – Saturday August 2 9P

Americans Martin and Gracia live as missionaries in the Philippines for 15 years with their three children. For their anniversary, the couple book the trip of a lifetime to Dos Palmas resort a vacation turn nightmare when militants kidnap them from their hotel room. Martin, Gracia and 18 other hostages are captured by the Islamic extremist group Abu Sayyaf. For months, the hostages are forced to hike through the thick jungle with little food. During 200 days in captivity, most of the hostages are freed for ransom money or escape, but three are beheaded. The terrorists continue to hold Martin and Gracia for over a year, demanding $1 million for their release. After a gun battle with the Philippine army, Martin is killed, while Gracia escapes. She reunites with her children and returns two years later to testify against the surviving captors.

What is not mentioned in that description, is that although Martin and Gracia were not initially kidnapped because of their faith, their captors kept them so long because of their faith and nationality. Their being both Christian and American was like the worst thing one could be to the Abu Sayyaf and also a reason for the Abu Sayyaf to just keep them around holding out for a greater ransom. Because you know Christian missionaries don’t work for anybody that has money to pay a ransom quick, so the Abu Sayyaf just held on to them waiting for somebody to pay just because they had some Christian White Americans on their hands. Martin and Gracia were with the captors before, on and after 9/11/2001. So they got to see what the Abu Sayyaf, who are also known as the “sons of Osama bin Laden”, were doing up close. They learned who Osama bin Laden was some months before most Americans knew his name well.

Well in all this, they held fast to the Lord Jesus. And that’s the real victory of it all. Martin didn’t survive (in the physical sense), but of course he’s doing even better at home with the Lord, 2 Corinthians 5:8. While his wife Gracia was rescued by the area military and now runs The Martin & Gracia Burnham Foundation. You can see the various focus areas of the foundation here. Basically the foundation works to share the message of Christ and help persecuted saints.

I just think it was a powerful story and a wonderful testimony of 2 people who kept faith in Christ in the face of persecution.

2 Corinthians 5:6-10 (New American Standard Bible)

6 Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord–

7 for we walk by faith, not by sight–

8 we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.

9 Therefore we also have as our ambition, whether at home or absent, to be pleasing to Him.

10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.

If you get the opportunity, I think theirs is a story worth watching.
