The Democratic Party’s Religious Outreach, Leah Daughtry and Black Liberation Theology.

by @ 6:38 pm. Filed under Nuts on Parade

AndyB sent me most of the content of this post and really he did most of the leg work on this one. So a big hat tip goes out to him. Andy found an interesting article after spending some time over at ApostasyWatch. I’ll include some of the more interesting points of the article below.

The minister who leads Democrats to faith

For evidence that the Democratic Party has warmed to the idea that religion has a role in politics, look no further than Leah Daughtry.

The CEO of this summer’s Democratic National Convention and chief of staff to party head Howard Dean is also the pastor of a Pentecostal church. Since 2005, she has led the party’s outreach to religious groups as it seeks to reverse its image of being less than faith-friendly.

When Daughtry became Mr. Dean’s No. 2 in early 2005, she recommended an active outreach to religious groups, called Faith in Action (FIA), and he concurred. “His first conference call as chairman was with some faith leaders,” she says. The aim was to open lines of communication.

Faith and politics are two sides of the same coin, according to Daughtry, an energetic yet soft-spoken African-American. They involve private holiness and “public holiness issues ? how society treats its people, what God has to say about it, and how I as a person of faith respond to what society” is or is not doing.

Having presidential candidates as articulate about their faith as Sens. Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton helped the party make its case. Senator Obama has even stepped up his religious outreach since becoming the presumptive nominee, meeting with 40 faith leaders, speaking about his personal religious journey, and planning an outreach to Christian youths.

The party apparatus has made its own inroads. The FIA strategy involves communicating with national religious leaders and organizations, supporting state parties in outreach efforts, and encouraging candidates at all levels to speak the language of values.

FIA’s staff interacts with various groups (Roman Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, etc.) and has even engaged with Republican bastions. Daughtry, who traveled to Salt Lake City to meet with elders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was invited back to see their new president installed.

“I think we’ve done a good job of developing relationships across the country,” she says. “Part of the reason you see changes in the evangelical community, particularly among younger Evangelicals, … is that we’ve better articulated our values around issues such as Darfur, poverty, the environment.”

The Democratic embrace of faith and values hasn’t come without problems.

“There was a very strong and vocal pushback” from some in the party, says Eric Sapp, a consultant who advises candidates on how to connect with religious voters. But some people changed their minds, he adds, when they saw the success in the 2006 election of some statewide candidates who had worked with his former firm, Common Good Strategies. Those candidates averaged 20 percentage points better with white Protestants than the national average.

Daughtry comes from a segment of the party that is not shy about putting faith into action through politics. Her father, the Rev. Herbert Daughtry, was deeply involved in the civil rights movement and he recently returned from a trip to Sudan.

Last month, the House of the Lord Church in Brooklyn celebrated his 50th anniversary as pastor. Leah came home to preach and her sister led the congregation in singing, prayer, and dancing in the aisles. (The two sisters are the fifth generation of family preachers, starting with a slave preacher on the Daughtry plantation.)

Taking her text from the story of Deborah in the Book of Judges, Leah wove a theme of rising out of one’s comfort level to accept fresh challenges and new perspectives that God provides. In the call-and-response style of black preaching, worshipers joined in and were all on their feet by the time she concluded.

You can see a picture of Leah Daughtry here.

So you’ve got a woman who unbiblically claims church leadership. (1 Timothy 3 and is the woman even married?) She’s helping publicans in a pro-abortion (shedding innocent blood Isaiah 59) group play Christians for votes, in the name of “values”. And so then instead of the CHURCH being the group to do for the poor, the posture is that we take money from heathens via taxation and give to the poor via a government that is forbidden to share the message of Jesus? I’m not saying government should never help the poor, government should do what maintains order, but it’s interesting how these values plays are made. She’s claiming faith and politics are “the same coin”, now that would be scary if Bush said it and it’s certainly scary knowing she feels that way. She’s teaming with all manner of apostate groups on the claim of “faith”, which means her “same coin” is a coin of Baal.

Herbert Daughtry, her father is big into the heresy of Black Liberation Theology.

See the front page for Herbert Daughtry’s “church” and you notice he’s part of the National Black United Front (NBUF).

National Black United Front (NBUF) details from their own site.

The National Black United Front (NBUF), extends a warm invitation to you to join the Black Liberation movement and join us. History demands we continue to mobilize and organize our people toward freedom, liberation and independence in America. In this context, we must link our struggle with the struggle of African people worldwide and the struggle of other oppressed peoples, as long as the interest of African people are not contradicted. The battlefield of organizing for freedom is a rough and tough challenge. We need dedicated women, men, children, youth, and elders who are willing to commit themselves to the cause of our redemption. Join the National Black United Front (NBUF) and hook-up with the Black liberation movement.

Dr. Conrad W. Worrill, National Chairman

Of course if this group was White, it would be called a racist organization. This group and Herbert Daughtry’s “church” group which his daughter Leah Daughtry recently spoke to is all about the EXACT SAME MESS JEREMIAH WRIGHT IS PROMOTING, THE HERESY OF BLACK LIBERATION THEOLOGY!

If you check out this page you see Herbert Daughtry has:

Additionally, he was one of the principal lecturers at the 150th anniversary of the Virginia Theological Seminary and his lecture, ?A Theology of Black Liberation: the Who, What and How,? was published in the school?s journal.

I found some interesting statements on his “church” web site regarding what they believe.

We Believe?..

That Jesus Christ was essentially African in origin. While Abraham, the father was located in Asia, after hundreds of years in Egypt, Northern Africa ? and Canaan ? during which obvious assimilation of religion, philosophy, medicine, art, architecture, engineering, etc. occurred, what passed on to Jesus was Africanness.

That Jesus Christ will come again ? as He promised. While it is not absolutely clear what this means, we believe that when Jesus returns, there will be a dramatic supernatural in-break into history; at that point, a new heaven and a new earth will begin in which peace and righteousness will flourish.

That scientific discovery, space exploration and political and economic revolutions are all part of the divine plan in which God, through Jesus Christ, is at work moving all things toward His consummation.

An African, not Hebrew Jewish Jesus. They are not really sure what Christ’s 2nd coming is about. And when they talk of God’s work they only mention things in science and revolutions. Their statement says nothing about Christ’s death on the cross, burial and resurrection! They’ve constructed an African jesus, and totally said nothing about His most glorious work for us in their “We Believe?..” statement. How can a group that says nothing in this statement about the sacrifice of Christ, His shed blood and resurrection, believe that ONLY BY GRACE THROUGH FAITH ON HIM IS ANYONE SAVED? Obviously if it’s believed it’s not given prominence.

I searched this “church” web site for the term “cross” and only found 2 instances that related to Jesus being on a cross.

First instance (Part VI: Darfur Diary ? My Journey to Juba South Sudan):

There was familiar art work that we had seen in many other churches. There was the last supper, another picture of Mary holding the baby Jesus and individual pictures of Mary and Jesus. There were different pictures of Jesus on the cross. All of the pictures were white. Needless to say, our emotions ran from shock, disappointment, anger and hurt.

Second instance (Part XII: Darfur Diary ? My Journey to Juba, South Sudan):

I was struck by the picture of a white Mary with little black boys and girls at her feet on both sides of the church. There was a fixture of Jesus on the cross, yes, he was European. I wondered what impact these white figures were having on the children. My mind went back to Ethiopia and the white pictures in the church carved out of a mountain. Such creative genius and then to have artwork depicting God made in the image of other people ? people who have enslaved, colonized and exploited your land and your people is difficult to comprehend.

The only times this man’s “church” can speak about the CROSS on their public web site, is when they are upset at how somebody portrayed Jesus, in terms of the flesh tone used. I dare not search the site for the term “blood” in hopes of them speaking about the shed blood of Jesus for sin. But I ended up doing it anyway! Searching their site on the term “blood” yields nothing about the shed blood of Jesus Christ.

So here we have a supposed “pastor” in Leah Daughtry, raised up on Black Liberation Theology and now she’s #2 in the DNC.

Lord help us!

You know IC, Brother, since coming across your blog, you have been crushing my civil rights heros–idols.
(LOL)! Amen, this is a good thing!

I hope people reading this hear this in the right spirit.

The civil rights movement was a good thing for this country and not just for black people but for all people of color in this country. But in the name of civil rights, the Black Church theology got way off track
from preaching/teaching/& living the true, holy, unadulterated word of GOD. Our shepherds stopped trusting in seeking GOD and living by HIS word and put blacks(as a whole) trust into civil rights, civil disobedience, and economic rights (affirmative action, EEOC, grants, loans, development corporations, etc. faith based).

A lot of large black churches made an idol out the civil rights movement, Dr. King, and it seems like leaders in this type of category are stuck on depending and trusting in “man–government, politics, the Democratic party/Republican party, etc.” VERSUS putting our trust in only the LORD JESUS CHRIST! Therefore, the Black Churches have made alliances with Egypt (the political system) and turned their back on GOD and believeing GOD is with them when they are in blatant SIN!

It confirms what you are shedding light on about Black Liberal Theology, read especially the comments by a pastor named Reverend Carlton Veazey.

EnochWalked - I read the headline of the article you linked and can’t stand to read any further at the moment. I’m going to have to pause right there and read it in full later…

The headline is causing me to have an Ephesians 4:26 moment and I need to lean on the Lord to get me to the part where I’m not holding anger too long.

  2. EnochWalked Says:

    Brother IC,
Peace be unto you brother! (Smile)
This quote from the 3rd paragraph says it ALL!
[Workshops at the three-day event included “Pastoral Care and Reproductive Health Counseling,” which focused on “engaging women and families confronted with issues related to healthcare and reproductive health choices” – and included an introduction to churches on “how to provide a pregnant woman with all available information about their options – parenthood, adoption and pregnancy termination.” ]

    PREGNANCY TERMINATION…SAY WHAT????
….AN INTRODUCTION TO CHURCHES ON…”HOW to MURDER!!!!”

    LET US PRAY!
HEAVENLY FATHER, I COME TO YOU IN THE NAME OF YOUR SON, THE LORD JESUS CHRIST! FATHER, YOU KNOW ALL THINGS AND YOU SEE THIS! LORD HAVE MERCY UPON US THAT HUNGER AND THIRST FOR RIGHTEOUSNESS…YOU SAID THAT WE WOULD BE FILLED! FATHER, WE REPENT OF OUR SINS OF NOT WATCHING AND PRAYING! WE HAVE BEEN ASLEEP AND ENTERED INTO TEMPTATION!
LORD YOU SAID IN YOUR WORD,Luke 18:7-8
    (7) And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them?
    (8) I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?

FATHER GOD, THIS DAY, I ASK IN FAITH!
LORD–MAKE A PUBLIC EXAMPLE OUT OF THESE FALSE PASTORS and FALSE CHURCHES THAT ARE ALIGNED WITH BAAL & MOLECH TO KILL YOUR BABIES! LORD, I PRAY THAT ALL WHO CLAIM TO KNOW YOU AND ENDORSE THESE ABOMINATIONS BE CUT TO THEIR HEART AND SEE THEIR SINS AND REPENT AND COME BACK TO YOU TODAY! COME QUICKLY LORD JESUS, COME QUICKLY! VENGEANCE BELONGETH TO YOU LORD, YOU WILL REPAY! I BELIEVE THAT YOU HEAR ME WHEN I PRAY! YOU SAID Mark 11:24
    (24) Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
…I BELIEVE YOU HAVE HEARD MY HEART and MY BROTHER IC’s HEART! THANK YOU FATHER GOD FOR HEARING OUR CRY FOR THE BABIES IN JESUS NAME! AMEN!

Thank you brother, the Lord helped me regain calm after I had to do some praying myself. I’ve had a chance to read the full article and it’s very sad to see someone claiming church leadership being of such an ungodly mind. Carlton W. Veazey is basically acting as if keeping the commands of scripture and never advocating murder does not bring his (Veazey’s) desired outcome, then it’s time to just let some innocent blood spill and claim the woman made the “choice”, after he’s given her the information to make a terrible decision. As if none of the innocent blood will be on his own hands for his role in the matter.

He’s gone from spreading the gospel (assuming he ever preached the gospel), to social engineering.

  4. SteelGator Says:

What about the Democrats upholding their belief in so called “Seperation of Church and State”? Where are the commies, marxists and leftist decrying that religion has no place in politics?????

  5. AndyB Says:

One comment that made me actually churckle was this line:

“FIA’s staff interacts with various groups (Roman Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, etc.) and has even engaged with Republican bastions.”

…they make it sound like they easily have a lot more in common with Muslims, Catholics, and (later in the paragraph) Mormons than they do with Republicans.

“Yes, we’ve met with Mormon Elders, Muslim Imams…. heck, we’re so dedicated we even courageously talked to.. *shock* REPUBLICANS!”

    *laugh*

IndependentConservative reply on July 11th, 2008 at 1:52 pm :

They need to rename that group from “Faith in Action” to “Baal in Action”.
