My good friend Uncle Tom Bill who used to blog but has not in a while, e-mailed me a question that I got his permission to post here. Because as I told him, I’m certainly wondering why more people are not asking these questions right now.
Message from Uncle Tom Bill titled: Lawd hav mussy, dey ain’t looting!!!!

I am also befuddled, that we can see natural disasters before and after New Orleans, that seem to have different results and nobody having a cow that the President didn’t wade in the flood waters with his own feet.
The bottom line is, there is a wayward culture that spawns some of the negativity that many never want to blame on those doing it. Not race, but culture.

IC, I believe the same can be asked about the record number of tornadoes that have jumped off since the beginning of the year–not just in frequency, but in intensity as well. According to weather.gov (The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s website), preliminary reports for tornadoes are nearly 1,700 so far for 2008, and it’s not even July yet. The first recorded tornadoes for the season started JANUARY 7!! Yet, just as with these floods, the residents have not been pitching a hissy fit when president did not criss-cross the country to examine the damage left by so many of these storms.

The reason why there is no out cry from the residents of Iowa is that there is no culture of victim-hood. There are no excuses for poor decisions and bad behavior, more is expected from them and nothing is expected of blacks living in the inner-city. It is a cultural and not an ethnic issue, case in point Mississippi suffered under Katrina right along with Louisiana and there are a significant amount of black people in each state. Yet all you heard from were the blacks in New Orleans.

Brooklyn, what you say is definitely true. Ironically, there is a similiar on-line discussion here in PHL over a spat of recent shootings here in just three days. This included a high school senior that left Temple’s Liacorous Center for commencement rehearsal and was caught in the crossfire in broad daylight. He survived and is expected to recover.
Another young man, from MN, was killed just steps from his apartment in a robbery after work. He was an aspiring teacher looking to teach in the city for the next school year.
The common denominator in each case was that both people, respectively, worked hard and sacrificed in their own way to achieve what they needed. They made the proper decisions now to help prepare themselves for the future. As well, neither of their families were protesting, or looking to recover from loss or inconvenience at someone else’s expense.

IC, Jamaica is across the Caribbean Sea, and thats the same type of behavior that many has? I am scratching my head, because the common factor is skin color.
brooklyn reply on June 19th, 2008 at 7:40 am :
Can you clarify the Jamaica comment. Thanks in advance.
rascoe1 reply on June 19th, 2008 at 11:25 am :
Brooklyn, the same behavior that was displayed can also be seen in some of my country men. The same lawless behavior. As Jamaica faces major economic problems, it is unfortunate that bad behavior has become the predominant attitude.
brooklyn reply on June 19th, 2008 at 1:04 pm :
Okay I hear what you’re saying regarding Jamaica. My family (both mother and father) are from Jamaica as well as my wife. We have all noticed a change for the worse and it’s sad to see.
rascoe1 reply on June 19th, 2008 at 2:02 pm :
I am pleased to meet you Brother Brooklyn. The thing that has been perplexing me for years, is the self destructive nature of the black man. Where did this mentality originate? The same pattern can be seen all over. Even blacks who never left Africa, display the same behavior. I dont see it as an African American thing, or a Jamaican thing, I see it as a black thing. If anyone has any thoughts about this please help me out. I may never know the answer, but I would like some understanding. Do you think this is just one of those things we write off as us living in the last days?
IndependentConservative reply on June 19th, 2008 at 3:26 pm :
Well it’s a sin nature in all men that manifest in various ways.
The person who sent me the message that started this post, Uncle Tom Bill, is far more astute with the numbers than myself. But racial groups like Whites also have some figures that don’t look good regarding some things.
The real issue is sin and we know the only hope is true faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
Thankfully, we know not to embrace any destructive behaviors.
As for America, men like Thomas Sowell have repeatedly mentioned, that Blacks were rising overall out of poverty at a much better rate before godverment started trying to “help”. And that was the crux of Frederick Douglass’ “What a Black Man Wants” speech.
rascoe1 reply on June 20th, 2008 at 9:48 am :
Thanks for the link IC, I will be reading it. Destructive behavior is indeed a human thing, (the fall). However, there is something in me that gets extremely frustrated whenever blacks behave badly. I get frustrated because so many of us never get it, and the cycle continues. Many people died for the privileges we enjoy and it is taken for granted and not appreciated. I will read the article, I am sure it will give me some insight into this foolishness.
brooklyn reply on June 20th, 2008 at 5:50 pm :
Nice to meet you as well rascoe1. My wife who was born in Jamaica says the same thing. She is really disappointed in the current behavior of Jamaicans and doesn’t know how they lost their way.
As IC stated self-destructive behavior stems from the fallen nature of man and is inherent in all ethnic groups. I think it is exaggerated in black people because society on the whole expects so little of us. Within the black community bad behavior is excused or even encouraged. This epidemic of low moral standards and poor decision making used to be isolated within a subculture of the black community. Now with the advent of mass media (music and entertainment channels) those values and that negative image goes around the world at the speed of light. It has infected some of the most remote areas of the world. Jamaicans used to value hard work, education and religion just like American blacks did. Now we worship our skin color (which is defined by politics) above all else.
When I was a kid my parents taught me that welfare and food stamps were an embarrassment to the family. Home ownership and an education are escapes from poverty. That mentality is gone. Jamaicans who come to the US now are more concerned with racism and supporting Socialism more than anything else.
That’s been my first hand observation.

Please don’t tell me that you were on the Robert Redding, the Redding News Review http://reddingnewsreview.com/ board. Because brother, I was on there too. With a fake name. I was vigorously defending George W. Bush and the Republican Party. Whatever happened to Ralph From Ben Hill? Did he survive the stroke?
IndependentConservative reply on June 20th, 2008 at 9:43 pm :
Yea then we all met at the same spot and I guess we didn’t know you where there
.
I was on Rob’s board as “D-Man”. After enough Liberals came in and Rob moved to DC and started getting more Liberal I checked out of there.
Brooklyn used to use the handle there “Cabal” I think.
Ron_B who comments here sometimes was Ron_B
.
You should have made yourself a little more known. We all used to hang out and stuff and you could have joined us. We never got Uncle Tom Bill out though, he likes to stay home
.
I don’t know about what happened to Ralph.

Brooklyn, it frustrates me when I hear the words “society on a whole expects so little of us”. I cannot stand it. What it says to me, is that the black man does not have a mind of his own. Because society say I am “black and a nigga”, I have to be that. I DONT THINK SO. Until the black man takes responsibility for his actions and stop casting blames, the cycle will continue. God is not partial, we were all created equally.
I get the Jamaican radio station online, and one talk show host, Wilmot Perkins, uses is the “field slave and the house slave”, bit to justify some of the behavior in Ja. the. Please do not get me wrong, I know there are still obsticles, but OUR ATTITUDE HAS TO CHANGE. You know Brooklyn, the only excuse I can readily accept to justify foolishness is the FALLEN STATE OF MAN. I suppose my brother, that the few who “gets it” has the task of continually speaking out. If all we can do is raise our children in the fear of the Lord, they will get it. The colour of our skin as so little to do with it, that is something that we cannot change, our attitudes we can change.

One Word”Accountability”
June 19th, 2008 at 2:48 am
I have to agree with Brooklyn. The fact is that all men were created equal. However, if you believe a lie long enough it becomes the truth. Sadly what we have a concept and an idea that because you are black you can’t support yourself or save yourself. The Govt. becomes the end all be all because of ones skin color. This is a lie perpetrated by the left in America which African Americans overwhelmingly vote for. (Not that Republicans are any better so don’t get me wrong) Once the lie is believed and the political and social infrastructure is there to support the lie then the lie becomes the truth by proxy. This inevitably leads to a self perpetuating cycle. Sadly the white mans burden of old has reinvented itself in the Democrat Party.

Now sir, you ARE NOT speaking of the same Uncle Tom Bill that is originally from south Georgia that used to be a regular caller on WAOK Radio in Atlanta a few years back? If so, then wow, because that fellow was extremely old back then, so it is a blessing that he is even still alive, let alone still active in getting and disseminating stuff like this!
“Well it’s a sin nature in all men that manifest in various ways.”
Yep, I hate to sound racist, but where in America black folks tend to do the street crime/welfare/illegitimacy thing, it is “the other side” that commits crimes on a mass, global scale with things like weapons of mass destruction, environmental pollution, manipulation of trade and financial markets, etc. I hate to sound like I am regurgitating the James Cone – Jeremiah Wright – Leonard Jeffries nonsense that I picked up in my fake wannabe radical days, but it is still true!
IndependentConservative reply on June 20th, 2008 at 4:31 pm :
Yes I am talking about the very one and the same man. A very good friend of mine, that I talk with online several times a week if not daily.
Yes the Lord has blessed him with years and when it comes to computers I ask him questions although I’m the guy with 2 degrees in Computer Science!
I met him back when there was a show on WAOK-AM that had an online message board. I don’t know if I heard of him first via the message board or on the radio program, but either way I must say our meeting has proven a good thing.
Although bloggers like La Shawn Barber caught my interests in blogging, it was Uncle Tom Bill who actually said to me:
And said it several times till I did it.
And I regularly use his line “Farra-the-Con” to describe false prophet Louis Farrakhan. A few names in radio use phrases they got from him calling their shows. (Although some fail to ever give him proper attribution.)
brooklyn reply on June 20th, 2008 at 5:35 pm :
Uncle Tom is da Bomb.
I first encountered Uncle Tom Bill years ago on a message board and he was just nailing people left and right. He couldn’t care less about what people thought of him he was totally relentless. He has the widsom of years and would laugh at black youngsters who would cry about racism when he seen and lived through historic levels of bigotry and hate. And he hasn’t changed one bit…good for him.
I remember one of his topics was when he compared black men to wolves and black males to domesticated dogs. He said when we were wolves we were on our own and took care of our offspring and did whatever it took to provide food and shelter for the family. You reproduced only what you were able to feed.
But since the 1970’s we black men have become like domesticated dogs. Unable to provide for ourselves, mate whenever we want and leave the offspring to the female to take care of.
Overall it was a very interesting observation but that’s what UTB does so well.
I apologize for the threadjack…carry on.

Heartland, when you say “it is “the other side” that commits crimes on a mass global scale…” I agree with you. However that does not justify the behavior of our people. I am sure you would not justify your children misbehaving because your neighbours children are criminals.
I dont know Uncle Tom Bill, but from that you all have said, he must be a wise man. Brooklyn, that comparison, I have never heard it put that way. That is food for thought.
IC, I read that speech of Fredrick Douglass, thank you so much. I was quoting him last night, every chance I got(smile). If he and all of our ancestors, who fought and died for the rights that we no enjoy, had the opportunity to see where we are now as a race they would be so disappointed.
NYTN reply on October 22nd, 2008 at 12:32 pm :
healtheland, you asked about “Ralph from Ben Hill” (aka C. Miles). Well he died a few years ago (I think it was in 2004 from a heart attack). He never came all the way back from that blood clot in 2001.
As for “Uncle Tom Bill”, he used to call in on “Open Line” with Ike Newkirk on 790 The Zone in Atlanta. That show is on Sunday’s 6am to 9am. I listen regularly and haven’t heard him in a while. He’s definitely a trip!

” However that does not justify the behavior of our people.”
Me? Justify sin? God forbid! I only justify Jesus Christ. Again, that was why I stated that I hated to sound like James Cone – Jeremiah Wright – Leonard Jeffries etc. No matter what your race, color, ethnicity, nationality, class, sex, etc. sin is the disease and Jesus Christ is the cure. Jesus Christ killed sin dead! Glory to Jesus Christ!
