Well I’ve thought he was lying since this all started. Because it was no secret he married Aalyiah when she was under age.
One-Time R. Kelly Aide IDs Singer on Sex Tape
|
And R. Kelly might have even paid someone so he could suppress another tape.
R. Kelly claims to be a Christian. While he’s always made trash we Christians had to repent of listening to if we ever listened to it. Oh, but he made one theologically flawed hit song called “I Believe I can Fly” and it was even being played in church meetings. Look at the lyrics, the song was all about someone doing of themselves. A classic Word of Faith styled tune and says nothing of Jesus. The lyrics even mention:
Hey, cuz I believe in me
And the Lord knows.
Genesis 6:5 (New American Standard Bible)
|
I used to believe in me, now I believe in Jesus and His finished work on the cross and His resurrection from the dead.
Maybe the song was suitable for the movie Space Jam, but it certainly should not have been embraced as anything Christian. It was not at all anything for church meetings. But it brought him a sort of legitimacy with many church groups. And he went right back to making trash music.
Now radio stations are STILL playing his garbage, some of them even play a little “gospel” (usually of the Bobby Jones variety) on Sunday mornings.
I guess perhaps if you’re famous and kill a few people on video tape, then maybe even before the trial many would shun you? But if you’re famous, you can abuse children and a mass of people will not only cover for you AFTER you were caught marrying a girl who was under age, they’ll cover during a trial and hope you didn’t do it. Well somebody did it and the IDs are saying R. Kelly. Several witnesses of the video footage.
Neither has been found guilty by a court of law, but I think R. Kelly and Michael Jackson should be sharing a prison cell.

You want to know what’s funny… or just down right disturbing? — This pedophile came to my high school about 10 years ago in New Jersey. He had been signed to play on some cheesy, local basketball team (which went nowhere I think). Anyway, the man came on the auditorium stage, said some nonsense, and then asked everyone to bow their heads while he led us in prayer!!
Looking back at that now, based on current situations… this man should not even have been allowed to step on campus…much less pretend to utter a prayer before any kind of audience. What a disgrace!
Everyone thinks there is no one that sees. No one that can hear what’s being whispered. My friends, GOD sees all and is the ONE True Judge — and HE will try you before men if HE so wills it. No one gets away with anything.

Being a former Chicagoan, I remember when he recorded that song – Kirk Franklin brought him up on stage at a concert and had him sing that song. Then, Kelly “gave his life to God” on the stage and Kirk said something to the effect of “we now have to support him as he grows in the Lord”.
Well, we can see how much he’s “growing in the Lord”, can’t we
Also, one of my close friends (my cousin-in-law’s husband) was a music producer in Chicago during the 90’s (he’s now the musical director for Barry Manilow…don’t ask). Anyway, he used to produce in the studio that Kelly used to bring his young girlfriends to. Of course, he noticed that the girls looked a little young – but he couldn’t confirm it (until now, of course).
It was a well known “secret” in music circles that Kelly was/is a pedophile – now his chickens have come home to roost…

Well THAT is fodder for the “does the salvation prayer result in salvation” debate between evangelical Arminians and Reformed Christians if there ever was one. Would make a great blog post if you know what I mean

Good point Job. I did a post a while back on the narrow gate vs. the narrow path – featuring a sermon on the matter by Paul Washer.
I can agree with Washer’s overall assessment that many people who prayed the “sinners prayer” but didn’t change their lifestyles are being marched straight to hell – all the while thinking they’ve secured “fire insurance”. Exhibit A: Robert (“R”) Kelly.
I’m simple enough to believe that although we enter the narrow gate, we’ve got to also stay on the narrow path – knowing full well that the fruit we produce will let others know if we’ve fallen off that path – or if we were ever really on it in the first place (Matthew 7:13-29) – Exhibit B: Robert (“R) Kelly.
You’re right – this debate would make a great post – so get going

The only clean album Kells ever put out was the “Happy People” album back in 04. Besides that one his lyrics have been sexually charged. We shouldn’t be surprised about this issue seeing that he married Aliyah way back when she was 15 or 16. But hey! Age aint nuthin but a number, as her song went back in the early 90s.

She was actually younger than 15 or 16 when the marriage happened.

That song was also embraced in the U.K amongst pentecostals. I remember at my former church playing the song whilst the Pastor led the congregation in singing the Chorus.
I recently also saw a clip of a well known youth motivational speaker/minister in London telling some school children to sing the song to encourage themselves. This dude (who goes by the name Action Jackson) is supposed to be a “mand of gawd” (did I spell it correctly? lol) and is well respected amongst many pentecostal youth ministries.

He is a pervert, and to think there are still young women running behind him, saying he is innocent. When will they learn. Recently my daughter told me she has his cds, but does not listen to them anymore. I suggested she throw them out, I dont know if she did, but I will be bringing up the subject again. How can a 15yr old marry without parental consent? I am old school, and I truely believe the Word, my daughter is a 25yr old grad from HU, unmarried and still lives at home. I would certainly do a lot of prayer and fasting if she ever bring any one home the likes of R. Kelly, Pervert.

I’ve never been an R. Kelly fan. He makes my skin crawl. I know a sex offender when I see 1. It’s no amazement that Kelly & Michael Jackson r close friends. I guess birds of a feather flock 2gether.
