I need to warn you saints who know faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is the ONLY way to salvation, that continually men using ungodly methods desire to claim they should teach you the ways of righteousness. While we know the Lord Jesus and His Apostles addressed issues such as sex, they did so in a manner that expressed righteousness. They did not play around jesting like some sort of filthy comedians. And God through Jesus Christ, by way of the Holy Spirit, had the apostle Paul inform saints they should avoid things such as filthy, silly talk and perversion laced jokes.
Ephesians 5:1-12 (New American Standard Bible)
1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; 2 and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.
3 But immorality or any impurity or greed must not even be named among you, as is proper among saints; 4 and there must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this you know with certainty, that no immoral or impure person or covetous man, who is an idolater, has an inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience. 7 Therefore do not be partakers with them; 8 for you were formerly darkness, but now you are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light 9 (for the fruit of the Light consists in all goodness and righteousness and truth), 10 trying to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. 11 Do not participate in the unfruitful deeds of darkness, but instead even expose them; 12 for it is disgraceful even to speak of the things which are done by them in secret.
A while back, before his name was in the news, I made a post warning how Thomas Weeks III would play off filthy talk.(The video is no longer there, but I think everyone is aware of how he is now. Or you can see another video of him over at Christianitywatch.) And there are others continually coming along who fail to keep the admonishment of the scripture noted above. Their mouths speak continual filthy, silly talk and jokes that are unclean. One such man is Dr. Dana Carson.
Carson claims to hold an “apostolic covering” over many churches, says he is “a certified church growth specialist” and has an interesting educational background.
…
Currently, Dr. Carson provides an apostolic covering for over 100 churches located both nationally and internationally Texas, Mississippi, New York, Philippines, Cameroon, Liberia, and South Africa.
Originally from the inner city streets on the south side of Chicago, IL., Dr. Carson overcame tremendous obstacles. Yet despite dropping out of high school, he has unquestionably become one of the most scholarly and dynamic preachers of our time. After completing a Bachelor of Science from Wiley College, in Marshall,TX, Dr. Carson earned his Master of Divinity at Oral Roberts’ Signs and Wonders and Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminaries, as well as, a Master of Counseling from Texas A&M - Commerce. He then completed three doctorate degrees - Doctorate of Christian Psychology from Logos University, a Doctorate of Ministry from Boston University, where he studied The Church and Economic and Community Development at the Harvard School of Divinity, and a Ph.D. in Organizational Leadership from Regent University. Currently a part of the class of 2009 cohort of the Duke University Global Executive MBA program, Dr. Carson utilizes his extensive training combined with more than 20 years of organizational experience to train clients in both ministry and corporate environments.
Dr. Carson is a certified church growth specialist, and through DCM Consulting, he assists ministries in both the U.S. and internationally in various areas of church growth and health, from increasing their membership and developing their administrative infrastructures to implementing strategic processes on how to effectively organize and grow mature, healthy ministries.
…
I thought the true Apostles of the Lord Jesus did not include trash mouth jokes in their presentation of the gospel. They had signs and wonders, that did not include the ability to stir up laughter with jokes on par with an HBO comedy performance. No saint should desire the “apostolic covering” Carson claims to have, he is a false apostle. Let Christ, not someone calling themselves an “apostle” be the covering of your local church. It is not man, but God that grows the church, 1 Corinthians 3:6-7 [click to expand link]. So anyone claiming to be a “a certified church growth specialist” should also be avoided. And it is no surprise someone who is more entertainer than pastor would have spent time at Oral Roberts’ Signs and Wondersgames and plunder seminary.
1 Corinthians 3:6-7 (New American Standard Bible)
6 I planted, Apollos watered, but God was causing the growth.
7 So then neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth.
But let me show you the video that Dr. Carson has prominently featured on the front of his YouTube page. It shows you why Carson is everything but acting godly. While he (sort of) accurately advises against giving into a lust of the flesh, he plays off it for entertainment of a crowd. These are the kinds of things a pastor should council a mother on in PRIVATE.
Video titled: Should I Teach My Children to Masturbate?
Using filthy jokes to entertain a crowd.
Avoid this man. He plays off trashy talk for entertainment and fails to exhibit a godly manner of instruction.
What bible has this man read, if he has read the bible, that has told him that it is ok to be irreverant. He was sounding like Medea not like Jesus. At the 2 min mark I had to stop it, it was just too much. It’s sad, the people sitting and laughing don’t even realize they are laughing their way into the hands of Satan.
It’s truly sad to see men preaching the counsel of man, instead of the counsel of God!
This scares me simply because of those that are being tripped up by what he’s actually saying in a consecrated pulpit!
The gospel of itching ears is what it is, when folks are sitting there laughing at what is binding people to hell for an eternity. If anything goes, what are you saved from?
He obviously needs to brush up on Galatians Chapter 5, and know without a doubt what The Kingdom of God doesn’t permit for entry!
Gal 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are [these]; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,
NIV - Gal 5:19 - The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;
Pro 14:12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.
Pro 16:25 There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof [are] the ways of death.
I couldn’t make one word of what he was saying, IC! Maybe it’s being English and all…kidding! Seriously though, he is one of those characters that Paul says needs their mouth to be stopped. Disgusting…just disgusting
Speakingtruth, yes there is much more BAD regarding Dr. Dana Carson.
I figured I’d just expose him via what he promotes himself, in showing how that fails to agree with scripture, but there’s much more about him I am glad you are making note of and I really want others to note what they know too. With details they can provide via verifiable sources or 1st hand eyewitness accounts.
I figured I’d just sound the initial alarm with what is above and let others offer warnings of their own based on what they also know.
He might be a smaller pimp for now, but saints need to be warned about all his bad so they don’t fall prey to his “certified church growth specialist” tricks.
IC, is it inappropriate to ask folks to come forward to tell what they know (anonymously via the blog but with verfiable emails or off-line conversations)?
I had to pray before I exposed my former pimp, but it was the right thing to do - and now more folks still on the inside are giving me verifiable info to expose the truth.
If Carson is truely as dangerous as you and I are being told, then someone has got to say something.
Let’s continue to pray that God’s Will be done concerning this little man and his followers.
IC, is it inappropriate to ask folks to come forward to tell what they know (anonymously via the blog but with verfiable emails or off-line conversations)?
Well it’s not like I mentioned it till you started doing it yourself .
What I’m talking about, is like you did, if you have articles to share, or if someone was part of his assembly and wants to mention some things that they saw him teaching that are bad. Just like with any other post here. People chime in with details they know from their own experiences or information from the media they’ve read.
I’m not trying to get information that is secret, but what is already public either via Carson saying it from his mouth to everyone or it being in the media already.
Hi mister c_4, yes he said what you thought your ears heard.
And you know, pimps like Eddie Long and probably him use that term so much, they don’t really seem to regard it as a curse word.
When I was in Eddie Long’s club, I once heard him say he was going to work on his language, but afterwards there was really no significant change. Often, they try to play off that word and use it in ways they hope they can get away with using it without anyone doing anything but laughing. It’s all a show for them.
I’ll have to cosign on this IC - Long was notorious for cursing in the pulpit - and the sheep egged him on.
I don’t know if you remember the “Ish Man” classes that were held for a year a CNB back in 97-98. I remember Eddie once used the word “bull***t” from the pulpit (the old “little chapel”) when speaking to the men about his frustration with “comfortable Christians”.
As soon as the word slipped from his mouth there was an audible gasp and the place fell silent. Eddie told the audio guy to “stop the tape” and warned us not to mention it to anyone
You’re right - they’re so quick to show the sheep how “relevant” and “real” they are that they try to appeal to the least common denominator.
Yes I remember the “Ish Man” classes, which I didn’t attend a single one of . Hey, did you have an “Ish Man” jacket? (For a while I was thinking they might not let men wear any other jacket into CNB, they seemed to be the hip thing to wear. And I think some fellas liked showing them off to the ladies, like a high school football player showing off his varsity jacket.)
If Eddie’s only problem was the language… …Lord help him.
If he was talking like that in front of you guys, I would not want to hear what his kids have heard him say at home.
IC - I told you I was in neck deep - OF COURSE I HAVE THE JACKET! And, I never missed a class…IN A YEAR (Lord have mercy).
You’re right, we were strutting around in those jackets like we had just finished pledging and we were flashing our letters.
I saw brothers in the mall talking to young ladies while showing of their CNB jackets. I even remember Jesse Curney asking everyone for $100 to help Long pay for all those spiffy jackets - and I PAID IT! (Lord have mercy)
I just gave my jacket to Goodwill a few months ago, so at least I finally got it out of my house
And, I also just threw out the “graduation video tape” and my “diploma” after I left Landers’ plantation.
Good grief - I’m gonna need some of Peter Popoff’s “miracle manna” to chew on so that I can get back on the “narrow path”
I worked with a guy at Hartsfield who had just joined CNB and he used to tell me all the time about the cussing unca eddie did. Like the “p” word and the “d” word. I would just stare at him in disbelief. He said it was about being real with men. That men talk that way and Bishop had to let them know he was real.
The muscle shirts, having to go get a personal trainer (which he did just as he was starting his special “men’s” group), the cursing, frat type attire (special jackets). Looking back on it, I wonder why he didn’t break out some kegs of beer too?
IC, have you ever heard of Deron Cloud?. He’s a “pastor” from the Maryland/Virginia area that you might want to dedicate a post to (you can Google him for youtube vids, etc.).
Deron makes Little Dana look like a choir boy.
Deron spoke in Charlotte in 2005 at a CNB Men’s Retreat and literally cursed us all out. He used the “P” word, “D” word, “N” word, “MF”, “F” (I feel like I’m in the 3rd grade”) and every other vile curse word you could think of in front of Eddie Long and the male ministers and elders
He even called Eddie “my N” and a ” real MF pastor” - to show how “real” Eddie was for inviting him to curse us out. The auditorium was full of men (around 5K) and you could’ve heard a pin drop on a cottonball!
While he was speaking about sexual abuse in church, how black men need to take responsibility, etc., he was stomping back and forth cursing like a drunken sailor.
Eddie didn’t denounce Deron - in fact, he praised him AND invited Deron to speak from the pulpit at CNB. I’ve never seen so many men confused about what they had just witnessed - and many of us broke off into small groups to try and clean up (through scripture) the crap we had just been fed.
Now, Deron has a church/theatrical company in Stone Mountain (suburban Atlanta).
I wonder if he’s still cursing out the congregation…
He reminds me of that fowl comedian I used to see (back in the day) at the comedy club in Los Angeles
J. Anthony…truly sickening profane mess coming from the pulpit..I couldn’t watch the whole clip either!
Okay so first I was laughing really hard at the comments between IC and Speaking Truth. (CNB jackets, Lander’s plantation) LOL. Do these people actually listen to themselves? Have after action reviews? Dear God.
But having grown up in the black church all my life (emphasis on all) I can witness that this type of messy preaching is all too common, even among those who claim to be educated.
Its like the preach with a thug-in-the-rug mentality appealing to a like minded mentality.
I almost fell out of my chair reading the comments from IC and Speaking Truth. Eddie Long has lost his mind. Salvation probably should begin in the pulpit first. I wonder why his deacon board hasn’t said anything?
I think Dana Carson has some valid points to make.
Is anyone aware of Dr. Frederick D. Haynes, III
Senior Pastor, Friendship-West Baptist Church?
Hi sugacoles - Eddie Long reduced the power of the deacon board way back. (And was fully allowed to do it.) It’s a big dictatorship. Scripture notes there should be a plurality of elders deciding collectively on matters. Long does not have that or even a “deacon board”. It’s Eddie in charge and nobody is allowed to overrule his authority and show him the door. He really does compare himself to Moses or King David as times regarding his authority.
I think Dana Carson has some valid points to make.
Can you look at Ephesians 5:1-12 and tell me if what you saw in that video reflects filthy silly talk and if not, why not? I could get some “valid points” from a secular psychologist, but that does not mean I should seek a secular psychologist when it comes to my walk with Christ. Also consider the article speakingtruth pointed out to us. Here’s a quote from it:
…
Other clergy in the area offered more biting criticism of Carson’s ministry.
“He’s looking to get 5,000. He’s looking for numbers,” says the Reverend Leonard James Sr. at Greater Works Baptist Church, just a few blocks from Praise Tabernacle. “He’s a cosmetic preacher.”
James flatly denied Carson’s claim that Austin isn’t a church town. Austin, James claimed, needs “flatfooted teachers, not showmen” and “not prosperity preachers who just talk about money.” He added that he’d seen little of Carson in the community.
Janet Blake, day-care director at the nearby True Light Baptist Church and president of her neighborhood association, agreed: “He wasn’t part of the community. He didn’t come to neighborhood meetings.”
“If you didn’t have a lot of education, you didn’t go there. If you didn’t have a lot of money, you didn’t go there,” she says, railing against what she perceived as a Gospel of Wealth emphasis. “Their ministry was pretty much just to enhance themselves. There was no outreach.”
She also felt skeptical about the move to Houston: “It’s more about power with him. It’s supposed to be about saving souls and he’s saying, ‘Follow me.’”
…
I could have addressed Dana Carson from about 100 different angles. He is a showman who could really care less about your soul. (Read that article in full, he’s a pulpit pimp, just a viper, nothing more, not a man you want to be near.)

This is just the tip of the iceberg with what is wrong with the “church” today.

This little man is a nutjob - with a god complex.
I agree IC - he does touch on truth in dealing with lust, but he’s clearly playing it up for laughs and it just becomes sophmoric (excuse the pun :-))
I’m hearing some troubling inside information about his cult - uh, I mean church - but I can’t corroborate it at this time.
Also, he pulled a TD Jakes/Jim Jones move by having people follow him when he moved his cult - uh, I mean church - from one Texas town to another.
He’s even got the “kingdom institute/university” scam going (learning well from Oral Roberts, I see).
I believe that this little fellow is a “pimp on the come-up” - definetly one to keep an eye on.
