$20 Million Down the Drain in Virtual Fence Flop! Use a Real Fence Instead.

Boeing claims this was not their final product, but it was so sorry the government is dumping it!

$20M ‘fence’ scrapped for not catching enough illegals

TUCSON, Arizona (AP) — The government is scrapping a $20 million prototype of its highly touted “virtual fence” on the Arizona-Mexico border because the system is failing to adequately alert border patrol agents to illegal crossings, officials said.

The move comes just two months after Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff announced his approval of the fence built by The Boeing Co. The fence consists of nine electronic surveillance towers along a 28-mile section of border southwest of Tucson.

Boeing is to replace the so-called Project 28 prototype with a series of towers equipped with communications systems, cameras and radar capability, officials said.

Less than a week after Chertoff accepted Project 28 on February 22, the Government Accountability Office told Congress it “did not fully meet user needs and the project’s design will not be used as the basis for future” developments.

A glaring shortcoming of the project was the time lag between the electronic detection of movement along the border and the transmission of a camera image to agents patrolling the area, the GAO reported.

Although the fence continues to operate, it hasn’t come close to meeting the Border Patrol’s goals, said Kelly Good, deputy director of the Secure Border Initiative program office in Washington.

“Probably not to the level that Border Patrol agents on the ground thought that they were going to get. So it didn’t meet their expectations.”

So now they are going to try a new version and how much MORE of our money will be flushed? And how long before the illegals thwart it even if it works? There are just some jobs that require something more than hi-tech. The border needs a REAL fence and more REAL people in place.

Meanwhile, the drugs, slaves (I’m talking about sex slaves and such), terrorists and others who disrespect immigration laws keep jumping the border.

Honestly, I don’t think the administration and their minions in Congress ever had any intention of building any kind of barrier along the Mexican border.

Call me a conspiracy freak, but if I see documents about a North American Union (U.S., Canada & Mexico) modeled after the E.U., and something called the Amero showing up in the Exchange… I tend to stand by the ‘where there’s smoke, there’s fire’ mantra.

…And apparently, the Canadians aren’t being as secret-secret about it, as their legislator has already been making the necessary decisions.

It is a also a sad day in America when Canadians are making fun of our weak dollar.
