At times like this, I am thankful I'm a Reformed Baptist. If ever my church goes nuts like this [I know it won't...], my Bible and I are heading to the door and not looking back

truthintheselastdays, what I have come to learn in too many of these assemblies is one of two things concerning the Word in these settings. Either it's "taught" out of context or not taught at all.

I think most on this blog would agree that those participating in these "events" are biblically ignorant, and have NO CLUE that what they are a part of is not of God. IC made a good point when he responded to GaryV, saying that if you can convince people to do circus tricks in church and call it "a move of Gawd," these people would also be ripe to harvest whatever money they have, all for the sake of a sad and hideous facade.

This disgusts me...it really does. I'm a open-minded guy on some things, but this is nothing more than hippies in nice clothes, getting together to have "church". "Some call it interesting..." - Doug calls it downright demonic and heretical. Was there any mention of teaching, of doctrine, of any statement of faith in that video? Unlikely that they would have sat down and looked at Scripture in the first place, before they opened up to such demonic influences. EVIL - just pure, unadulterated evil!!!

Slain in the spirit is a modern practice, unknown to the Fathers of the church and scripture. There are also many instances in scripture that when someone fell backwards, judgment was in view. Eli for example.

Wow GaryV, they really poured the doctrines of evil all over you didn't they?

If you can get people to do all kinds of foolishness they'd never do anywhere else in front of you. Getting them to dedicate 10% to you as giving to Gawd and then getting even more of their money is pretty easy.

Slain in the spirit is a concept unknown in Scripture, which is nothing unusual for groups like this.Certainly that would never stop them from engaging in it.

I remember being at Rhema and having as part of our class work going to two weeks of Rodney How-wierd Browne "laughing revival" meetings. If that wasn't enough to open my eyes to WoF/Charismaniac foolishness, the follow-up by Kenneth Hagin was. Hagin claimed God told him (God spoke to Kenneth more than I speak to my wife apparently)to hold these same type of meetings all over the country or "This move of God would be lost to this generation". Hagin said it was nothing new, he had been seeing and doing it since the 40s.

Then, it was nightly doses of Hagin hissing like a snake while he "Slayed" folks into uncontrollable laughter and animal imitation, along with other "luminaries" such as Copeland and Richard Roberts joining in.

IC: Wow....That Christian Voodoo video is scary. I have also seen the web site on Toronto and Brownsville before. It is very informative and needs to be shared with anyone that is trapped in these cults.

SteelGator, I have heard the term "slain in the spirit" many times, but thankfully, the episodes never culminated into a scene from the zoo or kennel.

Much of this is like the trances that Hindus go into.

Yup and unlike with Aaron's rod (Exodus 7:8-13), their snake can't eat the others, because it's all the SAME SNAKE!

Check this out: Christian Voodoo????

The Brownsville <strike>Revival</strike> Incident is of the same false Azusa madness as Toronto, but I don't know if any of the individuals are the same.
