The Great “You Don’t Have Enough Faith” Lie. And the Great “Don’t Take Medicine or See Doctors” Lie.

Do Madeline Neumann’s parents now realize they had faith, but were deceived?

That child is dead and the Lord allowed that child to die, not just because it was her “time” to go, but because her parents are deceived. It was not because they lacked faith in God’s ability, but they are deceived in how to do something like treat a disease God has allowed all people to know how to treat.

1 Timothy 5:23 (New American Standard Bible)

23 No longer drink water exclusively, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments.

When the Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ named Paul wrote to Timothy, God did not have Paul to tell Timothy he needed more “faith” when he had treatable medical problems. God did not have Paul to rush to see Timothy, to pray healing for Timothy. God had Paul to simply give Timothy the widely known treatment, stop drinking so much water and drink a little wine. Historically it is noted that the water in the area Timothy was in had some issues and we see from scripture Timothy had some medical problems. The recommendation of a little wine to a man who avoided strong drink was the prescription Paul gave to Timothy. Because it was the known means to fix the problem. A little wine was the medicine for that matter. And it was a prescription even heathens were aware of. The bottom line is, Timothy was sick and Paul DID NOT tell Timothy to rest on faith, he knew Timothy HAD FAITH, he gave Timothy the common prescription for fixing the problem. A little wine.

Many saints have been deceived into feeling that they need some great mountain of faith, or they will suffer all kinds of catastrophe.

Matthew 17:14-20 (New American Standard Bible)

14 When they came to the crowd, a man came up to Jesus, falling on his knees before Him and saying,

15 “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is a lunatic and is very ill; for he often falls into the fire and often into the water.

16 “I brought him to Your disciples, and they could not cure him.”

17 And Jesus answered and said, “You unbelieving and perverted generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring him here to Me.”

18 And Jesus rebuked him, and the demon came out of him, and the boy was cured at once.

19 Then the disciples came to Jesus privately and said, “Why could we not drive it out?”

20 And He said to them, “Because of the littleness of your faith; for truly I say to you, if you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible to you.

This verse is often cited in the Word of Faith movement, the cult of “little gods”. They feel if they will within themselves enough “faith” they’ll have and do anything, because Jesus said nothing would be impossible. What they are missing is the fullness of the statement. Jesus was NOT trying to get people to have faith for healings. He was pressing them to have faith that HE IS THE CHRIST. The miracles were all simply to help them see He is the Christ. The Word of Faith movement, that cult of “little gods” and other similar cults have twisted the gospel AWAY FROM FAITH IN CHRIST FOR SALVATION OF THE SOUL into faith for all things of this world, this life and the flesh. One has to wonder why people in the Word of Faith movement even eat? Why don’t they just have “faith” that their bellies will be full? Nothing impossible right? They realize their physical body needs certain things to survive, including food and water. When the body breaks down, it needs things such as medicines and other treatments God willed man to have via common grace. Just as we eat and drink for our physical survival, we also should use medical treatments when the physical body has need of them.

We know Jesus is the Christ, He paid the price for our sins and He’s on the Right Hand of the Father. During the establishment of His church, some still did not believe. People that God wanted to convince via miracles. So THE APOSTLES were granted power to do things as Christ and greater. In John 14 Jesus was pressing His Apostles to fully believe He is the Son of God and declared what they would be able to do if they did. They were to work ministering His Gospel, as He declared from the Father. Jesus having the fullness of deity, God in flesh, perfect in every way, because He is as His Father who gave Him all, God, John 1:1 [click to expand link], John 1:14 [click to expand link] and John 3:35 [click to expand link]

We humans are not God, not even with a small “g”. We are sinners saved by grace. We who believe as Christ wanted His Apostles to believe, that He truly is the Son of God. The Apostles in working for Christ in the establishment of His church were granted full handle of all gifts of the Spirit. We have the same Holy Spirit as them, but the Lord did not declare we all would have command of all gifts, 1 Corinthians 12. So we don’t have the ability to declare NOTHING is impossible to us, we simply live by faith and accept as the Lord wills.

James 4:15 (New American Standard Bible)

15 Instead, you ought to say, “If the Lord wills, we will live and also do this or that.”

Like Timothy who was not an Apostle and did not have all gifts of the Spirit, he could not overcome his ailments without a medicinal treatment, wine. We use what the Lord has made available as the Lord wills, we don’t turn away from it.

1 Timothy 4:1-5 (New American Standard Bible)

1 But the Spirit explicitly says that in later times some will fall away from the faith, paying attention to deceitful spirits and doctrines of demons,

2 by means of the hypocrisy of liars seared in their own conscience as with a branding iron,

3 men who forbid marriage and advocate abstaining from foods which God has created to be gratefully shared in by those who believe and know the truth.

4 For everything created by God is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with gratitude;

5 for it is sanctified by means of the word of God and prayer.

No hungry man should turn down any food given to him and no sick person should turn away medicine to cure their ailments. It’s not putting faith in man to take medicine no more than its putting faith in man to eat a steak. (Thank God for steaks :) .) No good saint puts their faith in the medicine or in the steak or in man, but in Christ. We go to the doctor because he has studied how the body works and can help maintain it. When our car breaks, we don’t leave it on the side of the road waiting in “faith” for NOTHING IMPOSSIBLE faith to repair the car. Using what the Lord has willed us to have accessible to us for the body to survive is not bad or any lack of faith. God has given the things for our use and we should be grateful for it. So long as it is not something we know harms the body and we know the TRUTH that Jesus is Lord, we should make full use of what God has granted to us, thankfully, it’s sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

This does not mean God won’t ever do something miraculous, but it’s as He wills and we must use things obviously at our disposal rather than refusing them. Accept easy access to a medical cure as a miracle in its self, considering what saints in other nations suffer through. They would love to have easier medical treatment of some of their physical ailments.

So Word of Faith people, please turn from that “little god” heresy. Enough people have already died. And I know not all of you go as far as Madeline Neumann’s parents, I used to be one of you myself and I always went to the doctor. However, I have seen someone refuse medical care till death in “faith”, I know some who are very ill for slacking off on doctor prescribed medicine and your wayward doctrine causes you to error even if not in cases of medicine. You can only do as the Lord wills and should not take yourself as some super being with nothing you can’t do. You do the work of God as the Lord commands, accept what He has granted you with thanksgiving and contentment and keep faith on Him for eternal life.

Wasn’t Luke a physician? Wonder what WOF people think of that? I am sure they have some physicians and nurses in their church. Are they turning away a doctor or nurses “tithes” since their income is made by doing something the church is against?

The WoF folks would do well to learn that a great gulf exists between faith and presumption.

Luke 4:9 And the devil took him to Jerusalem and set him on the pinnacle of the temple and said to him, “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here,10for it is written,

“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
to guard you,’11and“‘On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.’”

12And Jesus answered him, “It is said, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

Death by Faith/Parents Pray & Let Child Die

Personally I don’t have a problem with the parents being charged and their other kids taken from them. There are already laws against things that endanger a child in every state.

I hope they don’t feel their child died because of some lack of “faith”.

I hope that government does not try and make new laws though, since this child was not in a public school. I don’t want government trying to make it difficult for parents to home school their children apart from government intrusion.

SteelGator reply on March 28th, 2008 at 1:57 pm :

You are correct. Anything to stop home schooling is their mantra. Liberals don’t want you educating your children. They want them to be indoctrinated to be “good little socialists” in the government controlled schools. Look at California….they are one step closer to making home schooling illegal.
