60 Detroit Ministers Pledge Their Support to 12-Count Felony Charged Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick.

They say they’ve been “called” to do so!

60 Detroit ministers pledge their support to beleaguered Kilpatrick

About 60 Detroit ministers pledged their unwavering support for embattled Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick this afternoon.

Pastors representing multiple denominations, gathered at Corinthian Baptist Church in Hamtramck to publicize their belief that Kilpatrick deserves forgiveness and compassion.

“The mayor is not standing alone,” said the Rev. E.L. Branch, pastor of Third New Hope Baptist Church in Detroit. “We’re holding him up in prayer all the way through.”

Moments before the ministers convened, Kilpatrick was arraigned in 36th District Court on eight felony counts, including perjury. The Free Press published text messages shared between Kilpatrick and his former chief of staff Christine Beatty that revealed the two lied under oath about a extramarital affair and the firing of former Deputy Police Chief Gary Brown.

“We’re called to stand with him at a time of trial in his life,” said the Rev. Skip Wachsman, pastor of Genesis Lutheran Church in Detroit. “He’s not guilty of anything; he has been charged.”

Two weeks ago, the pastors’ council voted 34-24 not to issue a letter calling for Kilpatrick to resign over the scandal. The council, which represents 400 clergy members, endorsed Kilpatrick’s policies in his 2005 re-election bid.

(Hat tip to Ron_B for the article.)

Now when someone can show me where the Lord Jesus or His Apostles stood in the way of a government prosecution I’ll agree with all 60 of those “ministers”. In scripture (THAT WOULD BE THE BIBLE WITH 66 BOOKS) it says government is SUPPOSED TO PROSECUTE EVIL, Romans 13:1-5 [click to expand link]. I am amazed at how America in many ways resembles Rome, but people claiming the Lord’s name won’t properly hold to what is in the letter God had Paul send to saints in Rome (the book of Romans in the Bible). And for you who desire to toss out the “judge not” line citing Romans 2. Go read it all, that was not about government prosecution, but rather people without Christ trying to pass godly judgment by use of Mosaic Law. Also it speaks against hypocritical judgment, judging what someone is doing themselves. The Jew can’t boast in the Law, all of them have broken it and need a savior (TO BELIEVE ON JESUS AS THE CHRIST, MESSIAH AND LORD) like we all do. This does not mean we ignore government being empowered BY GOD to prosecute people who do evil. And saints are to judge people who claim the Lord’s name, as to whether they are fit for association, 1 Corinthians 5.

Now a “minister” claiming he was “called” to stand with Kilpatrick in opposition to the prosecutorial efforts, not only means some or all of them stand with Kilpatrick in personal support. They feel God Himself has charged them to stand with Kilpatrick in his assertion of innocence. They are calling for an end to what is not just ordained by God in terms of a trial, but has EVIDENCE IN KILPATRICK’S OWN MESSAGES THAT HE’S NEVER DENIED ARE HIS MESSAGES.

And this disturbs me for even more reasons. Check out the videos below.

MANOOGIAN MANSION PARTY Ch 4 INVESTIGATION

Did Kwame Kilpatrick Murder Tamara Greene?

If this evidence was connected with Jeb Bush and that stripper was somebody paying them 10%, do you think the 60 mentioned above would be standing with Jeb Bush?

Ministers as a collective body giving political endorsements is bad enough, but what they are standing in opposition of here is something they should be staying out of. For any minister to claim they were “called” for such means they are hearing from something other than God. They need prayer, but not in support of their efforts.

The political and moral lapses highlighted in this story are to be expected. We know how power corrupts, and absoulte power corrupts absolutely.

The most disturbing (and again, expected) aspect of the story is that ministers (i.e. ordained ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ) will stand with this pimp Kilpatrick (at least he dresses and acts like a pimp…).

I’ll bet you anything that these pimps-in-training (uh, I mean “ministers”) are standing behind this fool because they want something from him in the future.

Just like our own Superpimp Eddie Long here in the ATL. Eddie didn’t give you the time of day unless he could get something from you (GW Bush, The King family, Puffy Combs, Ludacris, T.I., Bill Clinton, etc.).

When Kwame beats this rap (and I’d be sincerely surprised if he didn’t), he’s going to have to pay all of these “men of God” back in a big way.

He just inherited 60 “spiritual advisors”…

And have possibly already been receiving.

And for some of them, it’s nothing but racial loyalty, allowing RACE to trump LOGIC. Their crowds support Kilpatrick, so they don’t want to appear to be “sellouts”. Why preach truth when lies are more profitable? I believe only someone who does not believe God in truth is capable of such.

Speaking of Eddie Long, do you recall how he once used to speak against Cynthia McKinney, then after Billy McKinney likely had a hand in holding up construction of a senior center he wanted AND some in the McKinney camp talked with him, Eddie was saying words that favored McKinney and were against Denise Majette when Majette ran against McKinney and won? I saw Eddie suddenly say it should be about “experience” and not someone who can’t find the Congressional rest room. When before Eddie used to be against McKinney and favored Sunny Warren when she used to run against McKinney as a Republican. (Sunny had no congressional experience either, but once upon a time Eddie Long was more vocally against abortion.)

And what about Eddie Long’s flip flop regarding Farra-the-Con, remember that?

Faith suddenly took a back seat to RACE and being on C-Span with Tavis Smelly!

speakingtruth reply on March 26th, 2008 at 1:42 pm :

I DO remember old Eddie flip flopping between Majette and McKinney (I’m still looking at old AJC archives and googling to find the direct quotes).

I was sitting in the congregation when he spoke this foolishness. I was also at the Dome during one of his Easter “parties” when Eddie trotted out Dekalb County Sheriff Sidney Dorsey, and in the church months later when Eddie asked us to reserve judgment after Dorsey was accused of killing his rival (as you know, Dorsey later admitted to masterminding the murder of Derwin Brown).

Eddie trotted out Sidney because Sidney’s officers kept the traffic flowing over at Club New Birth. He trotted out McKinney because he needed the $700K that her dad was holding up in the state congress that he needed to fund his “Project Destiny” program, so he threw Sunny Warren back under the bus (as if a black republican had a chance in Dekalb County).

Oh yeah, I forgot how he had to sit on the stage at HIS OWN church and take a beating from Tavis Smiley, Cornel West, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, AND LOUIS FARRAKHAN (the man whom he feared so much that he had to start having ARMED “armor bearers” following him around) about how he was sucking up to GW Bush.

Eddie uttered the famous line “just because I went to the White House doesn’t mean we had intercourse”.

Like a true pimp (whether he’s from the streets of Chicago or the pulpits of Detroit and Atlanta) will chase MONEY and OPPORTUNITY no matter where it leads…

These ministers are in a city where it is literally crumbling (morally, physically and spiritually) around them.
But in their blindness they JUMP to defend a man who is little more than a hustler with a title.

What a lame statement: “he is not guilty of anything…” So now there’s nothing wrong with adultery and lying? How chilling coming from a so-called minister.

This is probably a hidden case where those ministers jumping to defend Kwame probably have so much sexual sin in their lives, its becomes almost impossible for them to speak truth to it.
What a rotten group of men. This is just more proof why now is the time to speak out and make a difference between what is holy and what is unholy.

    Consider me completely disgusted.

Considering the history of the disfunctional nature of early church at Corinth, isn’t it ironic that these so called “men of God” held their press conference at the Corinthian Baptist Church?

SteelGator reply on March 26th, 2008 at 3:25 pm :

    LOL….Great point.

  4. Cop Says:

“it’s nothing but racial loyalty.” Thanks for putting it out there IC. It wouldnt surprise me if all of the 60 ministers were black.

One of the many reasons I left the AME church, They would support a sinful black man over a man truly living rightously of any other race. Maybe why so many blackman have a man crush on Obama.

    From that article:

Mayor To Announce Legal Defense Fund

“And we won’t see a 2008 tax return until very late in 2009, so we’re gonna have a really hard time following the money as events are unfolding,” said Robinson.

His big money hook ups can contribute and all the little people who are supporting him, hey he’ll take their money too.

    Insane.

    Race trumps Christ yet again.

  7. Albertadude Says:

Man, this is so depressing!!! These ministers are supposed to be for Christ first…and not color…man oh man..

It would be like me standing behind Jimmy Swaggert or Jan and Paul Crouch just simply because they are white!??? And I would NEVER do such a thing…

    Christ and Christ alone…

Cop….I guess what you said is correct…perhaps that is why Black Christians (and some White Christians to) have such a blind love on for Obama which I simply as a Christian cannot nor will ever understand??????

Is it possible that all 60 of these ministers in reality are completely apostate and do not know the Savior???

How can they be so blind…

    Oh Lord….help me to understand….
