Yet another case where the thugs ensured there was no time to even consider calling 911. But this time the thugs met a father who exercises his 2nd Amendment rights.
Homeowner Kills To Protect Family - Video report included
According to neighbors, one of three would be home invaders is dead and two others are still on the loose after a DeKalb County man acted in self defense. The shooting happened around 9 Thursday night at a home on Stardust Circle off Columbia Drive in South Dekalb County.
A neighbor who only gave her name as Mrs. Heath, told 11Alive news her neighbor told her he was coming home from a school function with his wife and young children when three robbers confronted them in their driveway. “It was a home invasion, but the invasion was on the other foot this time,” Heath said.
She said the wounded robber died in her neighbor’s yard and the other two fled on foot. She says she heard her dog attacking one of the suspects as he ran away.

When there is time to call 911 and outsource your gunman work to the police, that is fine, but sometimes you’ve got to protect your family yourself.

We’ve heard it all before, but it bears repeating: Gun Control means being able to hit your target.
Or as Marine snipers like to say, don’t run, you’ll only die tired.

And we see what happens when guns are banned or a "Gun Free Zone" is setup! The only people left with guns are the thugs, or they’ll have their way with you without you having a highly effective means to stop them when they attack in mass.

People think that conservatives are nuts. When I write an article asking where were the "black panthers" when Redskin, Sean Taylor was being murdered in his own home where he pays the mortgage, certain people thought I was being cold.
YET, the black panthers showed up in Texas to confront Mr. Joe Horn for killing two illegal aliens who were breaking into his next door neighbor’s house, apparently in broad daylight!
Now, I am THRILLED to learn that yet another family is alive and well because they confronted thugs and took some thugs out of here. America needs to start fighting back. I am sick of thugs. How dare they target a home, break into that home and have the gall to murder or attempt to murder its residents in their own homes for defending themselves.
This was a good find, IC!

I forgot which amendment it is that state the right to carry arms. I’ll go with the third amendment. However, I do find this amendment to be a bit controversial because some people don’t know when to use their weapons, resulting in crimes. Then you have an issue of protecting yourself.

Those thugs were coming for Joe Horn too! He did the right thing and that 911 operator on the phone could not get cops there fast enough, he had to do what he had to do. And I’m glad his supporters rejected those New Black
PantherPathetic Nuts.You got that right!

art123 - See the post. It’s the 2nd Amendment
.
If everybody who can effectively use a gun actually had one, we would not worry at all about those who try to use guns for crimes. The thugs would know any attempted crime would result in instant death.
Folks say things are like the Wild West, but shootouts in the West were an exception, not the daily norm like we see in urban areas today. Because when everybody has a gun, everybody tries to stay cool.

I have lived in neighborhoods that were both good and bad. Mostly in good neighborhoods, they have neighborhood watch which is connected to law enforcement and although in bad neighborhoods, they have some organization going on, it is not as effective. I have noticed the time span in 911 calls. It is a vast difference. Law enforcement seems to come when the damage is done. If a crime is going down or if you’re sick, your life is hanging on a thread. Is 911 a joke? If you take the law in your own hands, then you have to spend your time and money (lawyers) getting your name cleared. The judicial system is not always fair, especially if you’re a minority. Most of you isn’t blind for you see it. That’s why I said that the second amendment to me is controversial. Do you know how many people have been violated by the second amendment? However if the system can work something out for innocent victims protecting themselves at all cost, so be it.

Shooting in self defense is not taking the law into your own hands, it’s the law that allows you to do it. If someone breaks into your house and you have to shoot them, it’s far less paperwork and hassle than if a cop does it. Those very few times the cops are able to get there before the bad guys are gone. (When a cop kills someone they usually need a little time off, which means less cops.) It is not going to cost someone money when done in self defense. It’s far less expensive than if a cop does it.
Is that why all those rich Black celebrities get away with so much dirt
? People who shoot in self defense get pretty fair treatment, overwhelmingly good.
And most would not have been if they exercised their 2nd amendment rights themselves.
Let me introduce you to the rock solid proof, that gun ownership is the best American solution to lower crime. Read about Kennesaw, GA and how a law that required people to OWN guns rather than turn in their guns resulted in lower crime rates. No plan ever devised in America, that involved being restrictive with guns has shown such good results. I’m not saying I want to put a gun in your hand by force of law, but just saying gun ownership works better and it’s proven as fact.

Take away money and what you got? I’ve observed a news broadcast last week about a black woman in North Carolina on the news because she owns a gun for protection and law enforcement is giving her a hard time. Why give her a hard time if its written in the constitution? Could it be more to this story? I don’t know, honestly. There’s a white teacher from I don’t know what state who request to carry firearms to school. I don’t know the end result. Should both cases be an issue?
December 7th, 2007 at 7:44 pm
I would also like to say that under New York law, if a person is caught carrying a firearm inside a building with or without intent to commit a crime, they could be arrested for burglary. I don’t know if that law changed since the 90’s when I remembered it and used to do administrative work for law enforcement. To me, the problem with that law is that if you have no intentions of committing a crime, their civil rights is still violated.

@9, I feel in both cases they should be allowed to have their guns, in their home and on the job, even teachers.
@10, Criminals never care what the "gun laws" are. Such laws only keep good people from being able to possibly stop a bad person who will carry their gun regardless.

It doesn’t always work out for the good guys even when they are armed.

erngeo - How can you say his wife would still be alive if he had not exchanged shots with them? It’s all hypothetical, but I don’t see his having a gun as a bad thing.
Better to have and be able to decide for one’s self, than not to have and be subject to the thugs desires. Which could result in the death of an entire family and sometimes has.
December 7th, 2007 at 11:03 pm
In response to link by erngeo, I would give my opinion and say that this shooting could be a possible retaliation for a case, regarding the detective and the DA, which landed someone in jail. Why was one of the shooters present at the DA’s home a month before the detective’s murder? Why would three thug shooters roll up on a detective and his wife with guns and start shooting out of the clear blue? Why is the reward money such a low amount for such a public case? Just my opinions.

Ok. Sounds fine to me. I have no problems with this. But you know some wacko is going to come in and say the homeowner should not have been protecting his family. Well, at least one thing is for sure, one criminal will not be around to cause fear in anyone else. Oh well.
December 8th, 2007 at 12:33 am
My point is being armed means nothing if the element of surprise is on their side. And yes I believe that people do have the right to be armed and to protect themselves. Also the fools that did the shooting were caught after they were involved in another shooting.
December 8th, 2007 at 1:16 am
In the article I’ve cited, it appeared the thugs had the upper hand catching the family in the driveway. In the case you mentioned erngeo his wife is still with us. Although I understand your meaning. There are times the thugs get away and in the case you cited they may have had just the goal of doing exactly what they did. It would have been much easier for them in planning if not for him being armed, but they might have planned their actions for some time. Ultimately, when people are armed it has the effect of lowering the likelihood of thugs getting away with their plans. Often the result is less thugs.
December 8th, 2007 at 7:40 am
Quote from the article: Dukes was parking his car when three armed men forced their way into his home. Gunfire was exchanged as Dukes tried to protect his wife. He was shot twice and his wife was wounded in the foot.
This angers me to no end. Dukes was murdered on his own property by criminal thugs who were committing a crime against his family on his own property.
I truly believe that people who complain about heroes such as Joe Horn of Texas (who shot and killed two illegal alien burglars) should get a little counseling so they may get their priorities straight. The hoodlums who attacked the Dukes home were worthy of death and I’m sorry they got away. Now an innocent citizen is dead as the result of trying to defend his wife and property from the scum of the earth. Ewwww
