art123 – I know that under the old covenant, a man was NEVER to take back a wife who he divorced after she married another man, Deuteronomy 24:1-4.  I can’t say I see anything in the new covenant guidelines for marriage that affirms that Christians should maintain that practice.  If Weeks and Bynum divorce and Weeks is able to reconcile with his first wife, I can’t say I see anything that prohibits that.  Given what Christ taught of the prodigal son and how Christ takes us back when we wrong Him.  Most importantly, He still will in the future save a remnant of Israel, despite their turning from Him, He will take the harlot back when her seed repents, Jeremiah 3.  Looking at Ephesians 5 I see that marriage is never to have divorce in the first place.  I don’t see Weeks reconciling with his first wife as a bad thing if that happened.

The abominations of Leviticus 18 have much support for being abominations still today, but I can’t say the same of Deuteronomy 24:1-4.  Given God will let the harlot He called His own return to Him.
