I’m Sick of the American Family Association. You Can’t Force the Immoral to Christ!

by @ 9:46 pm. Filed under Business, Nuts on Parade

Once upon a time, I used to really be in agreement with this bunch. But the more I read my Bible, the less I’m feeling as they do.

Check out what the American Family Association (AFA) sent me via e-mail last night:

(Any bold text is exactly where they used bold text in the original message.)

Gays challenge traditional marriage supporters: put up or shut up

Homosexual group calls for boycott of Wal-Mart, shopping at Target instead

Dear Darnell,

If Wal-Mart sales go down, gays will claim victory in support of same-sex “marriage” benefits

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest homosexual organization, has issued a challenge to pro-traditional marriage supporters saying in essence: “Put up or shut up.” They have called for a boycott of Wal-Mart while urging their supporters to buy from Target.

The reason? Wal-Mart refuses to offer “domestic benefits” (benefits given to married couples) to homosexual partners.

The homosexual organization also urged individuals to buy from Target, saying “consumers should make every effort to support” Target because Target offers “marriage” benefits to homosexual partners. (Target is the company which no longer allows the Salvation Army to solicit Christmas donations in front of their stores.)

USA Today interviewed me November 20 concerning the Wal-Mart boycott, citing–among other things–the number of HRC’s “buy and don’t buy guide” downloaded from the Internet and the billions of dollars the gays claim in buying power. I told Andrea Stone, the reporter who called, that AFA would promote a “buycott” of Wal-Mart and suggested that she look at Wal-Mart’s sales at the end of December to see who won.

However, in her article the next day there was not a single word from her interview with me. Instead, the article was basically a “puff piece” about the homosexual boycott. Homosexuals have challenged traditional marriage supporters to do battle. We will now see if traditional marriage supporters accept the challenge.

Make every effort to shop at Wal-Mart this Christmas season. The gays want Wal-Mart sales to go down so they can claim victory.

Forward this to your friends and family and urge them to buy at Wal-Mart. Announce this in your Sunday School class, at church, etc. Ask your pastor to announce in church newsletters and bulletins that the homosexuals are challenging those who support traditional marriage. Tell them about the homosexual’s efforts to force Wal-Mart to offer “marriage” benefits and Target’s support for “marriage” benefits.

OK, so now I’m a bad Christian if I find a good deal at Target, that gives people engaged in the abomination of homosexuality special benefits, after driving to the Target in my car that was made by a company that does the same! I’m supposed to go shop at the Wal Mart, that sells every piece of Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer garbage on prominent display to be a good Christian? Wal Mart, the company that while I’m fine with them being against Unions, which strong arm companies and were birthed from communism, goes and buys many of their goods from Communist and Christian torturing China.

The AFA is playing this silly game of dollars with the homosexual lobby. While the fact Wal Mart trades with China means nothing to them 🙄 . I realize trying not to buy from China is virtually impossible. I shop where they have what I need for a good price, because they all are into mess, because they all have done whatever they felt they needed to do in order to be the biggest money changers in the nation. To try and avoid would mean to do business with none and I’m not supposed to isolate myself completely from the world.

1 Corinthians 5:9-11 (New American Standard Bible)

9 I wrote you in my letter not to associate with immoral people;

10 I did not at all mean with the immoral people of this world, or with the covetous and swindlers, or with idolaters, for then you would have to go out of the world.

11 But actually, I wrote to you not to associate with any so-called brother if he is an immoral person, or covetous, or an idolater, or a reviler, or a drunkard, or a swindler–not even to eat with such a one.

I’m supposed to be the one going into the world and finding opportunities to reach out to the world. That does not mean I go and produce material with a trash rapper as some so-called preachers do, but the market place is the home of the money changer. If you want to avoid evil in the marketplace, you’ll have to avoid the marketplace completely. And Wal Mart being the bigger money changer, does more to support Christian torturing China. So I could as easily build a case against Wal Mart as the AFA has in support.

We’re not talking about a store that sells products I’m purchasing in order to engage in sin. Now that would be unchristian like. We’re talking about money changer who provides staple goods #1 versus #2.

And what if a Christian works at Target? Am I supposed to tell them they should quit their job and seek an opportunity at Wal Mart over this? What if Target’s sales are so low because of the AFA effort, that Christians lose their jobs? What victory has been won then?

And the AFA fails to mention, that Target has found other ways to support the Salvation Army. An organization I can give to regardless of who they are allowed to work with.

I was going to make this a simple comment in response to brother Job’s post over at Jesus Christology titled Megachurches Being Used For Capitalist Economic Development, but I felt it was time to call out this bunch in a full post here on the blog. They’re seeking to have saints do many things, not just this, that have NOTHING to do with Christian evangelism.

And if they have phones, internet, satellite via att…i guess they better cut it off–offerer of DP benefits also.

    Hi IC–how have you been?

  2. IndependentConservative Says:

briabria37 – I’ve been doing well.  Although the weather here is cold we’ve had plenty of food for obvious reasons.  So all is well 🙂 .

When it comes to companies with something messy there is no shortage.   Just regarding cell phones, I see Cingular/AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon on this list of companies homosexuals appear to enjoy working for because of various perks for them in terms of company culture and benefits too.

The AFA has become one of many, that has gone so far into political and business affairs, that they’ve lost grasp of the real mission of spreading the Gospel of the Lord Jesus.

  3. GaryV Says:

Agreed IC……….what a crock. Let’s boycott  every business that doesn’t make me feel all warm and fuzzy. Let’s try to force HEATHEN who don’t know God to live their lives and conduct their business in ways we can’t even get CHRISTIANS to do anymore. Ridiculous.

  4. IndependentConservative Says:

Well GaryV, for some of us it takes a while, in my case a very long while, before being able to better handle this scripture:
1 Corinthians 5:12 (New American Standard Bible)

12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Do you not judge those who are within the church?

And I’m still working to get it right.

Perhaps if all of a certain store were giving small children each a free piece of pro-homosexual material when they entered, that would be cause to consider an all out call against a certain place.  (For the sake of Christian children, that might still be impressionable and presented with the material.  We could say the same if they did it with adults.)  If they were sacrificing all the products sold to idols before sale to the public, perhaps we might want to inform others, although anything they’d sacrifice to is false and has no power over us.  But for conscience sake.

It is amazing that we have gotten to the point where those that choose to shop at Target are less worldly than those who rail against it for the American Family Association’s reasons. And keep in mind: they are the American FAMILY Association, not the American CHRISTIAN Association. Like that poseur James Dobson, Focus on THE FAMILY, and the source of the authority that he claims is his Ph.D. in child psychology from USC. He goes out of his way to tell people that he is not a minister.

All of these things, these religious right movements, have "values" or "family" in their names except "Jesus Christ", "Bible", or even "church." It isn’t so that they can retain their tax – exempt status, because the Southern CHRISTIAN Leadership Conference is tax exempt. They are all about defending cultural traditions, social conditions, and political alignments rather than promoting Jesus Christ. That makes them part of the world just like everything else. It is no wonder that so many of these groups are lining up behind either Romney or Huckabee, and they are only getting behind Huckabee because he looks like he might actually have a shot at winning Iowa. These folks aren’t after Jesus Christ, they are after power. Homosexuality is a sin, but I am interested in saving the souls of homosexuals (and heterosexuals), not keeping the homosexual down and putting him in his place. It really does seem like AFA does not care about that. If they did, they would talk about all of the adulterers, fornicators, whoremongers, and pornography consumers that Target – and every other business in this country – caters to. Since they obviously aren’t going to do THAT, then you know that they are not about Jesus Christ, but rather about exercising power over people.

  6. art123 Says:

Boy!  It’s become one big mess in these last days.

  7. DL Foster Says:

IC, I felt  exactly the same way when I got this ridiculous email. What in the world are they doing challenging gays to a boycott war?

I am speechless at the sheer lunacy for a supposed Christian organization.

Man, we can’t win for losing.

  8. IndependentConservative Says:

And they got this all rolling just in time for, the "first big shopping day of the year".  Mammon wins again!

Only making it more obvious that the Lord Himself will have to return for this mess to end.

  9. stan Says:

We’d have to leave the world if we examined every company for its righteousness and patronized accordingly. There isn’t an uncorrupted dollar anywhere on earth.   You may  work as honestly as you know how to as a Christian employee or employer, but the money that passes through your hands has some taint to it.  Why else does the Word call it, "unrighteous mammon?"

  10. art123 Says:

Who is the prince of this world right now?  Like the title says you can’t force immorals to Christ. Therefore, you cannot expect immoral people or corporations to do right.  Oppresion makes a wise man mad but God is angry with the wicked everyday and He also laughs at them too because He sees their day is coming.

  11. IndependentConservative Says:

I don’t know if He’s laughing.  But He knows who’s face is on the money and the little "In God We Trust" statement does not change what is Caesar’s, Matthew 22:20-21.

  12. art123 Says:

IC, if you read Psalms 2:4, it states that He laughs at the wicked.  Aren’t we made in His image and likeness?  He loves, hates, laugh, grieve, angers.  He also created good and evil and since we fall short, we take what He gave us and use it either in the right or wrong way.

  13. IndependentConservative Says:

    Well said art123 😉 .

  14. Copeland8 Says:

My husband’s job provides benefits to "non traditional " family members and significant others. Of course, they shy away from the word "gay" but it is easy to see through. But my husband has no intentions on quitting as the job pays good and provides for our family.

The only way to comply with a complete boycott of non Christian standards, one would have to take on the role of a monk and live in obscurity. The Bible says we are to live in the world and not be of the world. Thus, God knows what Christians have to put up with.

  15. art123 Says:

    I agree, Copeland 8.

  16. Caleb Phillips Says:

Revalation 22:11 states: "Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue to be vile; let him who does right continue to do right; & let him who is holy, continue to be holy."
