Kenneth Copeland, A Heresy Kingpin

by @ 9:45 pm. Filed under Nuts on Parade

Our good brother over at the blog Primitive Jesus Christology has found some of Copeland’s most insane statements and posted some of them in several posts on his blog. I once was setting up to capture video of Copeland in action, but he said the stuff I wanted to capture before I could get the equipment configured. He’s not the kind of guy I seek to view on a regular basis, so I never setup to capture his madness again. (No I don’t spend my days sitting around trying to take in a fill of heresy on a regular basis.) But I guess somebody has watched enough of the nut to give saints ample warning about him.

The bottom line is that Kenneth Copeland is not a Christian. Exposing him does NOT make the body of Christ “look bad”. Exposing false teachers helps to build up rather than tear down, given it helps to keep Christians from seeking a false teacher for instruction in scripture.

2 Corinthians 11:13-15 (New King James Version)

13) For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ.

14) And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light.

15) Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

My Lord requires that evil be exposed, Ephesians 5:11

If you saw your brother or sister being raped by someone they thought they could trust, what would you do?

I read that Creflo Dollar got his start in the prosperity gospel game through him and Copeland used to be a pilot for Oral Roberts. I also read somewhere that there is some controversy about the jet that he owns. Did the church pay for it and is he really using it for the ministry?

I would like to dedicate this song to Kenneth Copeland.

If you want to know about Copeland and his jet scam, check out: Oh Look, Kenneth Copeland Exposed Again… Also see the comments there.

Keep in mind, any pimp with a jet is a pimp, not a minister of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. So for them the jet is simply a function of their pimp game, even if they can make the IRS beleive it’s to “minister”. Even when they enter a building they call a “church” and speak of their false prosperity doctrine, that is pimp game not the gospel of the Lord Jesus. So all pimps with jets are NOT using them for ministry, unless you consider the fact that the IRS considers even false doctrines to be “ministry”.

Hi, for several years I watched Kenneth Copland’s broadcast, read several of his books and even attended one of his conventions believers’ conventions. I have found him to be a man of God who backs up everything he says with the Bible. His ministry has blessed my life. I’m sure if one looks hard enough they can find a few quotes in anyone’s teaching that they can disagree with. But if one really looks at Copland’s core beliefs he will discover that he shares the same beliefs as any other evangelical leader. For the person who is seeking to apply God’s word in his life there is so much to be found in what Kenneth Copeland teaches.
Mormonism? I’m sure the Mormons would not want him since Mormons believe that they have to work for their salvation.

  5. IndependentConservative Says:

@4 - Did you also help Copeland in his scam to get a jet?

His core beliefs are that Jesus had to suffer in hell for atonment of sins, that you have to give him money to get money and that he controls God. The man is a heretic and you’d do well to avoid the false teacher posing as an angel of light, 2 Corinthians 11:13-15.

If you consider those people you see on networks like TBN to be “evangelical leaders”, yes many of them agree with him, but NO they are not Christians either. They are also false teachers. Benny, Creflo, Copeland, Munsey, Cerullo, Long, Osteen and so on. Turn off that TV and read your Bible for yourself.

Kenneth has owned a number of planes during his 40 years of ministry. While you may think a jet is a luxury item, in reality it is a ministry tool. When a man of God has his own plane or jet he can travel to places were the airlines do not go, he is not confined to the airline’s flight schedule and he does not have to experience the delays and headaches of commercial air travel. In the past few months Kenneth and Gloria has travel to Far East and to Africa to preach and teach. I am a partner with KCM and my contributions help pay for the maintenance and fuel for this tool. If Kenneth’s partners felt that he was misusing his jet or that he obtained it a deceptive way we would stop contributing and his jet would be grounded. Kenneth has not scammed anyone; his partners voluntary contribute to the work of his ministry. By the way, did you know the after Hurricane Katrina, KCM used a cargo plane to take need food and medical supplies to New Orleans. As a result a number of lives were saved.

Yes, I understand that he believes that Jesus went to and suffered in hell after he died on the cross. That is his insight into the atonement and he bases on the Bible. He is not the first to hold this view. Now please tell me, what is the big deal about this? What does this view do to hurt the doctrine of atonement? How does accepting Kenneth’s insight on the atonement affect one’s salvation? It does not. I am not bothered if someone does not accept this view. Salvation is still by grace through faith in Christ.

Concerning prosperity the Bible teaches that if I honor God by putting his work first in my finances then I will be blessed and God will enable me to be a blessing to others (see 2 Corinthians 9:6-9, Galatians 6:10, Proverbs 3:9, 10). Myself and many others can testify to the faithfulness of God to those who obey his word concerning their finances.

You may call such men heretics and false teachers but you do not present any evidence that they violate the fundamentals of the Christian faith; you know, such things as the doctrines of God, the trinity, the divinity of Christ, the virgin birth, the second coming, the Bible as the word of God, salvation by grace through faith, eternity in hell for those who reject Christ, etc… Then you overlook the fruits of their ministry. In the case of KCM, in forty years of ministry they have won 67 million people to Christ.

You say, “they are not Christians either.” Now is that how Jesus wants you to speak about your fellow believers? Jesus told us in Luke 6:31, “And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise”. Would you want someone who has never met you to post on a web site that you are not Christian? I think not. So if you do not want to be treated that way then you should not treat others in the same manner. I sure that each one has their own testimony about how they received Christ into their lives.

  7. IndependentConservative Says:

@6 - Kenneth Copeland is a false teaching pulpit pimp and even when shown the jet is a tool for luxury and fleecing you still endorse the man. You really are a rare one to be shown the truth in SO MANY ways and still remain with him.

You can’t take a private jet like Copeland’s to places airlines “don’t go”. Because it’s a jet, not a plane built for remote areas. And he has no need to travel anywhere in the first place. He’s a false teacher, he should stay home and keep his false teachings to himself. All he travels for is to continue boosting himself and to vacation while calling it “ministry”.

All parts of the world would be better WITHOUT him around.

Copeland did not save a single life by using his plane to go to New Orleans, but he did make yet another show piece stop for you to continue giving him money.

Copeland’s view is a problem, because it speaks of another jesus. One who did not atone sin at the cross as scripture notes, but one who suffered in hell for sin. Please show me where in scripture you find that Christ suffered in hell? Throughout scripture it is fully consistent that reconciliation for sin was made AT THE CROSS Colossians 1:19-20. Jesus did not “suffer” in hell, He preached in hell for the sake of those who were formerly disobedient, 1 Peter 3:18-20.

Scripture if FULL of warnings about false teachers who do things like preach of “another jesus”, 2 Corinthians 11:3-4. The death on the cross of Copeland’s jesus did not atone for sin. Copeland’s christ suffered in hell, which means Copeland’s christ is not mightier than Satan. The True Christ did not suffer in hell and atoned for sin in physical death and was ALWAYS mightier than Satan. Copeland preaches a false gospel. He is a false teacher, teaching of another jesus.

Jesus was on earth in human form and was placed in Mary’s womb via the Holy Spirit. Fully God and fully man. When the man died, that was the sacrifice of the perfect man, better than all the animal sacrifices that were insufficient, Hebrews 10:4-10. It was the sacrifice of a perfect man, the perfect body that atoned for sin. Once this occurred Christ was fully spirit, fully God without the body and therefore by definition it is IMPOSSIBLE for Him to suffer in hell. Then he was raised from the grave, body and all and this ensures we will not suffer death and we who trust in that truth have the gift of eternal life.

You should not embrace Copeland’s view and should turn from him.

Regarding giving, I recommend you read 2 Corinthians 9 in full. It speaks of a gift to aid poor saints, not a false teacher. Galatians 6 is speaking of sharing with a true teacher, Copeland is a false teacher. And the reaping is of the spirit, notice the words “he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life”, the giving is out of a spirit of love and the reward is in Heaven. You proclaim and promote rewards of the flesh, because you sow of the flesh “For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption”.

Proverbs 3:9-10 is physical under the old covenant. In the new covenant, again the rewards are spiritual and giving to “God” is not giving to Copeland, see what the Lord says give to as unto Him in Matthew 25.

Copeland violates the essentials because Copeland DOES NOT preach of atonement occurring AT THE CROSS, Colossians 2:11-14. Notice it states the old requirements because of trespasses were NAILED TO THE CROSS. No where did the TRUE LORD JESUS suffer in hell. For those who can’t grasp the message of the cross, they will perish, 1 Corinthians 1:18.

Christ said “it is finished”, John 19:30 when he endured physical death. He did not say ‘now I must suffer in hell to finish this’.

Copeland’s fruit is bad and you reflect this. Copeland can’t “win” anyone, Christ calls His own to Himself.

If I were endorsing another jesus like Copeland and those liars you endorse I certainly would hope someone might note me as not being of the Lord. Because endorsing another and atonement via hell is not the truth and not how my sins were forgiven. Copeland’s way requires torture by Satan’s hand in hell, this is not the truth of the cross. Copeland and others like him are not endorsing the message of the cross. In promoting prosperity doctrine, they’ve twisted the gospel into something that exploits you, 2 Peter 2. As is noted there, it would have been better for them NEVER to have known the way to righteousness than to do what they do. And it would be better for you to discontinue comment till you learn the truth, because with each comment of false doctrine you make yourself into a false teacher too.

  8. GraceMan Says:

“Please show me where in scripture you find that Christ suffered in hell?” Peter in Acts 2:27 says, “Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.”

The early church also believed that Christ went to hell according to the The Apostle’s Creed: “I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty…”

From Isaiah 53:10-11 we read: “…when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand. He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied…he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.“

I understand this to mean that in addition to suffering on the cross, Christ experienced the suffered in his soul which took place in hell

I feel you are really making a long stretch by saying the Kenneth preaches another Jesus. It seems both you and Kenneth are talking about the same Jesus, but his view of the atonement is just is more detailed than yours.

“You should not embrace Copeland’s view and should turn from him.” Well, what does the scripture say?

Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Romans 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 10:9, 10, “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
The details of where and how Christ’s suffered does matter. Do you not recognize that you both agree that Christ suffered and died for our sins. This is just arguing about words. We are admonished in 1 Timothy 6:4 and 2 Timothy 2:14 not to argue about words.

You cited 1 Corinthians 1:18 – “For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.” I sorry to disappoint you but neither I nor Kenneth think the preaching of the cross is foolishness.

“Proverbs 3:9-10 is physical under the old covenant.” Well, if Proverbs 3:9-10 is only under the old covenant and it is no longer valid than so do we also have to abandon Proverbs 3:5, 6 - “Trust in the lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” I guess we can no longer depend on Lamentations 3:23, “…great is thy faithfulness” No, the Old Testament is still the word of God, Isaiah 40:8, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God stands forever.”

Why is it that you rationalize away every scripture that promises financial blessing? Again I testify that God rewards those who put him first in their finances. This is my testimony. You can not negate my testimony.

“You can’t take a private jet like Copeland’s to places airlines “don’t go”. Because it’s a jet, not a plane built for remote areas. And he has no need to travel anywhere in the first place.” I sorry, but I feel you really can not speak for the needs of Kenneth’s ministry.

“Copeland did not save a single life by using his plane to go to New Orleans, but he did make yet another show piece stop for you to continue giving him money.” I have seen and read the testimonies of those help by KCM in New Orleans; please provide your evidence to the contrary or ask the Lord for forgiveness for your statement.

Look I.C., there are lots and lots of people like myself who are blessed spiritually, physically and financially by the ministry of Kenneth Copeland. And his ministry continues to grow.

  11. art123 Says:

If Jesus suffered in hell for our sins, how do you explain Rev 1:18?

  12. IndependentConservative Says:

@8 & 9 - Thank you for confirming that you not only support a heretic, but that you are one yourself. Who claims a false christ who you feel had to suffer in hell, which is untrue. Your false christ also gives you money when you give money to a fellow heretic like Copeland. In your money you have your reward. And I see you’ve referenced heretic Tom Brown as well.

1 Peter 3:18-20 is clear about what Jesus did in hell and all you and heretic Tom Brown can do is twist scripture to no end, to create your false christ who suffered in hell, unlike the True Lord Jesus Christ who DID NOT “suffer” in hell. Scripture notes that the Lord preached in hell, no suffering.

Acts 2:27, says nothing of Christ “suffering” in hell. Given the resurrection we know he did not remain in Hades and he did not see corruption. Because he was not in hell suffering like a sinner. He preached in hell and was resurrected. No mention at all of suffering. He experienced the pain of death and that was it, Acts 2:24, he did not “suffer” in hell, he preached in hell.

Isaiah 53:10-11, this notes that the True Christ (not to be confused with your false christ) was bruised and made an offering for the sins of mankind. Being the sacrifice for our sins He bore our iniquities on Himself. This all was done AT THE CROSS. Again, no mention in ANY scripture that he “suffered” in hell. He went there, preached there and was resurrected.

Christ went and preached in hell as scripture notes, he was not suffering and being tortured by demons and/or Satan.

The “suffering” for man’s sin took place at the cross, in hell He preached. You are trying to turn the point of redemption from the cross to hell. You’d have Christianity be the message of hell rather than the message of the CROSS, Philippians 2:5-11.

Christ endured the cross and hostility from sinners here on earth, Hebrews 12:1-4. He did not endure any sort of “suffering” in hell.

You and Copeland endorse a LIE that anyone could have paid the price for sin at the cross and you fail to see the true message of the cross and the atonement that came when the perfect man, God in flesh was put to physical death at the cross as the sacrifice for sin. No not just anyone, not just any “prophet” could pay the price for sin in their death, but Jesus Christ alone was the only one able, because only He was brought into this flesh by being born of a virgin who was impregnated via the Holy Spirit. This made Him God in flesh, the perfect man and the perfect sacrifice for sin, not just some “prophet”. The effort to atone for sin via animals occurred at the animal’s death and the prefect sacrifice in Christ paid the price for since once and for all at the cross. His blood paid the price. To claim Christ had to suffer in hell to atone for sin makes the blood of Jesus of no effect, which is heresy, just a flat out lie.

It’s obvious that you desire to cling to heresy and the heretic, because you hope giving Copeland money will make you rich and maybe you’ll have a jet one day too.

art123, this divisive individual will not be given the opportunity to reply regarding Revelation 1:18. And his answer is predictable. He’d just try and incorporate it into his lies by referencing how Tom Brown twisted it to claim there was both was suffering and victory for Christ in hell. Copeland says Gawd told him that he could have done the same with a bit more knowledge, see this one. Of course if Copeland is correct, we don’t need Jesus to come defeat the Anti-Christ and could do it ourselves with a little more knowledge.

    I don’t suffer heretics long.

Some get more time than others, but this one has run his course here.

Note the warning from God about these types.

Titus 3:10-11 (New King James Version)

    10) Reject a divisive man after the first and second admonition,

    11) knowing that such a person is warped and sinning, being self-condemned.

This person was shown the heresy, shown how Copeland gamed for the jet, shown how Copeland uses it and they still support him all the way. They even defend his false prosperity doctrine, which in its self denies the truth of Christ and tries to buy God with money, which is heresy as noted in Acts 8:20.

So they are banned from this blog.

  13. GaryV Says:

Graceman, that is a wonderful example of eisegesis vs exegesis. Kenneth has taught you well. In the verses you cited, can you please show us where Jesus SUFFERED in hell?? It says He WENT,it NEVER says HE SUFFERED does it?? We ALL agree He went.

Your verses speak of the travail of His soul. Does the Bible place this travail in hell?? Chapter and verse please. Jesus said His soul was exceedingly sorrowfulin Gethsemane, Psalm 22 makes that claim for when he was on the Cross, but I never see it related to His time in hell.

Also………another minor detail………..satan isn’t IN hell. Can you show me a Scripture that says satan is in hell?? He won’t be there until after the Great White Throne Judgement. Was satan on holiday in hell?? Is it some sort of evil Club Med?? Since the Bible never records satan as being in hell, did he torture Christ via remote control from somewhere else?? Don’t confuse Dante with the Bible. Satan isn’t in hell to torture anyone, and you have NO Biblical license to place him there with Christ.

  14. IndependentConservative Says:

@10, the Mormons claim they speak of the same Jesus too and they claim that they just have more details. Like the Mormons, the “more details” Copeland tells are lies that alter the truth of the message of the Cross.

It’s sad how this person was shown how a passage of old covenant scripture is to be seen in a spiritual sense and they attempted to make light of it.

Copeland’s charity in New Orleans is one of the many examples of his playing the jet for show-piece charity, while falling outside of Matthew 6:1-4.

The money spent on Copeland’s jet, really could have gone to helping the needs of many poor saints and if all his “partners” had directed their money to helping poor saints instead of getting Copeland a new jet, they would have given as unto the Lord as noted in Matthew 25.

I offer some help to the misguided folks, but if they prove their ears are closed to the truth, they are not ready for it and I send them on their way, rather than continue keeping valuable time tied up with them.

Pray the Lord opens their hearts to truth if it be His will.
