The Enemy/Devil/Satan Comes to Steal, Kill and Destroy What? What is Abundant Life in Jesus Christ?

by @ 1:48 am. Filed under The Truth Shall Set you Free!

Because of the continued efforts to twist the meaning of life more abundantly in Jesus Christ, I need to explain what abundant life truly is. The practitioners of the prosperity doctrine, which is a false doctrine, have lead many to feel that Jesus Christ guaranteed Christians earthly material wealth. A read of a few more words from Christ along with the few cited by vipers aka pulpit pimps helps to clear up any ambiguity regarding what Jesus Christ promised those who believe on Him.

John 10:1-13 (New King James Version)

1) ?Most assuredly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door, but climbs up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.

2) But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.

3) To him the doorkeeper opens, and the sheep hear his voice; and he calls his own sheep by name and leads them out.

4) And when he brings out his own sheep, he goes before them; and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice.

5) Yet they will by no means follow a stranger, but will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.?

6) Jesus used this illustration, but they did not understand the things which He spoke to them.

7) Then Jesus said to them again, ?Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep.

8) All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them.

9) I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture.

10) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.

11) ?I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.

12) But a hireling, he who is not the shepherd, one who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and leaves the sheep and flees; and the wolf catches the sheep and scatters them.

13) The hireling flees because he is a hireling and does not care about the sheep.

Notice that Jesus says that He is the door and later in this same chapter He mentions He is the “good shepherd”. He notes that all others are false and thieves. Then comes verse 10, about a thief stealing and killing and destroying and Him coming that the sheep (us) might have life and have it more abundantly. Verse 10 is often abused and misused by people in a material sense. When they lose something, they claim it’s the devil coming to steal and when the prosperity heretics speak of their riches they claim it’s life more abundantly. Nothing could be further from the truth. In this scripture, Jesus was not talking about material wealth or physical health at all. Jesus often had to break down exactly what He had said previously, because many simply did not get it. Even today, with a Bible full of scriptures many people still don’t get it. But see below how Jesus explains.

John 10:22-30 (New King James Version)

22) Now it was the Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem, and it was winter.

23) And Jesus walked in the temple, in Solomon?s porch.

24) Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, ?How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.?

25) Jesus answered them, ?I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father?s name, they bear witness of Me.

26) But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you.

27) My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

28) And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

29) My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father?s hand.

30) I and My Father are one.?

Notice that Jesus says He gives his sheep eternal life, and they shall never perish. This is what Jesus was speaking of regarding “life, and that they may have it more abundantly”. Eternal life is the reward Jesus offers to those who believe on Him. Those who refuse to accept Him as the only true way to salvation are not His sheep, because they do not believe His words when He said that He is the door. Jesus was not talking about Satan trying to take your car from you, He was talking about Satan trying to take your eternal soul and if you believe on Jesus Christ nobody including Satan can ever snatch you from His hand. Satan wants to steal your soul, kill your spiritual inheritance and destroy your eternity. Jesus brings you eternal life and an abundance in that eternal life related to your faithfulness here on earth. It’s got nothing to do with you getting something here in this life, but rather when He raises your soul up from what would be the grave. Jesus is the only way to salvation and that is what He wants everyone to understand.

John 14:6 (New King James Version)

6) Jesus said to him, ?I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.

The Lord will reward us each according to our works.

Matthew 16:27 (New King James Version)

27) For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.

So follow and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. Understand your rewards for your good deeds here play out in heavenly rewards for you later. Salvation comes through Jesus Christ, not works. Otherwise, Jesus would not have said that He is the door. Believe on Jesus and you will have eternal life. Believe and do his will, to ensure you receive the best of heavenly rewards. The Lord knows his sheep, he knows if you choose to follow him that you will also work to do his will.
