Sued Pastor Says He Told Folks It’s OK to be “Slain in the Spirit” on Sundays. Claims He Didn’t Know Judith Dadd Might Fall on a Thursday.

This is an update to the story about the about Judith Dadd, who says she was hurt when she was “slain in the spirit”. And again I say don’t fall for claims that Christians should fall backwards on the floor. If Judith’s former church was teaching that she should not be falling backwards out of control and this whole mess would have been avoided.

Well now, the head pastor of that church David R. Williams claims he meant for people to pass out on Sundays only.

Pastor: Church fall was unexpected

In often contentious testimony Tuesday, a pastor being sued by a former church member said he didn’t know people would be “overcome by the Spirit of the Lord” and fall during a church rally nearly five years ago.

“It’s not a regular thing that when I pray over people they go down,” David R. Williams said under questioning from an attorney representing Judith Dadd, who is suing Mount Hope Church.

“You knew people would be going down,” attorney Richard Rashid said.

“No, I did not know that,” the pastor quickly responded.

Rashid pointed to an audiotape produced by Williams, in which the pastor says people should not be afraid of getting hurt, because ushers are trained to catch people.

But Williams said he was referring to Sunday services. Dadd was injured during a Thursday night event, known as a “leadership rally.” About 270 church leaders were there, Williams testified.

Can you say SPIN? Can you say HEDGE BET? As has already been mentioned in previous court testimony, numerous other people were also falling down. I’ve been to so many church meetings where this Benny Hinn style game is played and I sure wish these churches would show more decency and order during services. But they do it all the time. Not that I’ve been to this particular church, but I’ve seen this enough to know the deal. Others were falling out, Dadd fell and it was probably going on at anything that included people shouting around. Order goes out the window and bodies hit the floor. IT’S NOT GOD.

Something else that is NOT the work of God is that Judith Dadd is now going for $1 Million bucks!!! That’s what her lawyer said to the jury in court that she should be awarded.

Really, this church instead of playing an insurance song and dance with Dadd should have paid her immediately and later sought insurance reimbursement. A “church” should not leave a member with big medical bills wanting like that. Now they get into court and the pastor is playing this game of it’s OK on Sunday not on Thursday  , when he never should have condoned it at all. If it’s not a regular thing for people to fall when he prays, he never would have mentioned he thought it happened on Sundays, so I say he’s lying. And we have Mrs. Dadd going for $1 Million, which is way beyond any amount to meet her actual needs/bills. Of course it’s best when members of the church can avoid court all together, but seeing how all parties are acting in court is pretty ugly.

If Dadd had insurance herself I’d say it was wrong for her to ever seek money from the church. If the pastor never told her she would be caught if she fell, I’d say she should have never bought into the slain in the spirit trick and she should assume more personal responsibility for her own actions. Well she should have, by not falling in the first place, but from a legal perspective, the church allowed such activity and said they would even protect people who fell, by catching them.

It has been mentioned that not all Assemblies of God churches are the same. This is also true of the Episcopal churches and I speak of them in general terms at times too. In every case there are people and/or churches in a group that disagree with the ungodly behavior. Just the same, those dissenting churches and people within the organization remain and have to pay money to the organization to remain a member of it. (To clarify, the church pays the organization, with funds from the church members.) So it would be best for those who disagree with what is going on to leave. If a church sees their denomination is out of order, why remain? You’re not going to change things from within. The folks at the top allow it because it helps up the numbers. They have already shown that adherence to scripture is not the priority. If I call China a pack of communists, the capitalist loving China man knows I’m not talking about him, but he’d do well to leave China if he prefers capitalism. I don’t think it makes any sense for a church to continue funding a group they know is endorsing things that are blatantly out of the will of God. With Episcopals, we are talking about abomination being put in the highest ranks. With the Assemblies of God, we are talking about misrepresentation of the Holy Spirit, which is giving false witness to actions of God. To me, these are not trivial or nattering matters like circumcision. So I won’t be glossing over them.

Personally, I think that if she fell and got hurt, she was faking and shouldn’t get a dime. If you believe that you can be slain “in the Spirit” and get hurt, you are crazy. Lots of people fall at the pressure of the hand on the forehead and if that’s what assisted her falling, then maybe they should pay her medical bills but not the big $M. Somewhat in her defense, people are so empty and will do just about anything to fill the void, save calling on the Name of Jesus Christ and allowing Him to fill what only He can. People need to start leaning on the Lord and not on man’s depiction of Him. I hate that she got hurt, but I also pray that she’ll examine herself to see how much of a role did she play in faking the fall. And I agree that if she had medical insurance, she shouldn’t be suing the Church at all (but also according to the Word, she shouldn’t be suing period). Maybe the fall possibly caused some long-term damage. If so, I’d say make the Church responsible for half as she is at least half responsible. But to me, the fact that she would sue for the big $M tells me that her relationship with the Lord needs a lot of work. That’s just my opinion.
