Every thug has a story of troubled this and that. Some people allow their troubles to consume them and do evil, but others find a better way than shooting at cops. Nobody made the thug take anybody's gun and nobody made him attempt to kill a cop either.

The only "credit" I give the thug is that all his shots hit either the cop's vest or missed, so the cop was spared.

He brought it all on himself by his own actions and his own actions are why calling him a thug is most appropriate.

<blockquote>
...seemed to hold more anger towards himself than to others.
</blockquote>

And that anger caused him to steal another person's property (gun)? That anger caused him to try and kill a cop? Please! If the anger was towards himself, he would not have been stealing and trying to shoot others.

Good bye icedrockend. You've had a moment to say what you wanted.

I was just thinking about Mike when I decided to google his name to see what would come up. I know this is old but feel he does deserve some credit even if he was wrong. I know Mike meant well but had emotional problems that he couldn't control at times. I saw Mike a couple weeks before this happened and he opened up to me in tears about how he just wanted to do good and just wanted to straighten his life up. The reason I can say this is because he had a troubled and unfortunate childhood. One that would probably be hard for a lot of us to bear. Mike wasn't some wuss either, I witnessed the kid take a lot of pain without even building a tear several times. The label 'Thug' does not describe Mike at all. I think troubled would be much more accurate. For those that did know him, we know he meant well but he just had too much built up pain that would surface, and when it did he had troubles controlling it. I'd also like to add the stolen gun belonged to someone, one of the few, who was closer to him. This person probably reported it stolen with concern for Mike and everyone else's safety. Though I think it was a surprise to all of us that he was capable of doing something like this. As long as I knew him, he had nothing but love for friends and seemed to hold more anger towards himself than to others. To me this story was a tragedy but I'm glad nobody else was killed.

And I repeat, the cop did the right thing. I have friends who did stupid things too. They are either dead or have been hit with bullets too. So you're not telling me jack by saying you have a dead friend. If you don't like my opinion, that's your opinion and you can read someone else's. However mine remains unchanged. I lived in Gwinnett for 10 years. I've seen officers and their families in the hospital crying. I have no regrets over my opinion and don't write for the world's satisfaction. Sorry your friend is dead, however you know he brought it on himself.

This may be your kind of news, but it's not my kind of news. You want to know why? Because someone died. My cousin Michael Warren. A kid I grew up with. He was a good kid. He just had a lot of emotional problems. I saw him for the first time in about 10 years last month. He gave me a big hug and reminded me of how important family is. I never would've thought he'd do something like this.

The officer was doing his job. I have no hard feelings towards him. I'm glad he was saved by the vest, and I hope he can continue doing his duty. But I can't help but wonder what was Michael thinking? Firing at an officer? That's the singlemost idiotic thing anyone I know has ever ever done. It's not like the Michael I grew up with. I so wish I could just ask him what he was thinking. But I cannot. Instead we all must learn from this.

So don't be so quick to show your elation at another's death. If affected many many people. And you have offended several families.
