Piggybacking off commentaries by DeWayne Wickham and La Shawn Barber, Independent Conservative writes about selective outrage over black-on-black crime. The black blogger writes: "I can tell you, it?s not selective reporting by the media. When Blacks...

There's money and political influence at stake in racial discord and that's a fact.

Charles Barron was elected to the city council on that and Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson have found a way to milk millions from that same viral strain.

That's why Guiliani's tenure (actually it was Bill Bratton's procedures) saved thousands of black & Hispanic lives in NYC. When Guiliani took office in Januray of 1993, the murder rate under the previous Mayor, David Dinkins (ironically a black, Liberal, Democrat) was over 2,000/year and had held steady over the previous few years. Under Bratton's dircet intervention techniques NYC's murder rate was dropped to under 500!

Considering that the vast majority of murders in NYC were committed by minorities upon minorities, it stands to reason that the bulk of the lives saved by that huge murder rate reduction were minority lives.

What Bratton did was to first go after the routine "quality of life" crimes - aggressive panahndling (he got the "squeegee men" off the highway exits and street corners), locked up turnstile jumpers and those guilty of petty crimes like public urination, on the premise (a premise that turned out to be right), that many of those who engaged in such quality of life crimes were also wanted for other more serious crimes. In this crackdown alone, thousands of violent felons who'd skipped out on warrants were locked up.

This, coupled with longer sentences for repeat offenders took a lot of the real bad characters off our streets and resulted in a dramatic across the board drop in crime.

There's no doubt that the Barron's, Sharpton's and Jackson's oppose that format, because they see the black criminal/thug class as "social revolutionaries." You didn't see any of them at the funerals of the two black NYPD detectives (Rodney Andrews and James Nemorin) gunned down by a Staten Island thug (Ronell Wilson) who was also black, but you sure saw them stoking the flames of racial discord over the Sean Bell shooting, even though there was only ONE European-American involved in that incident - of the five officers who fired their weapons, two were black, one was Hispanic, one was Syrian and one was white (European).

In early December our FDNY rig was parked not far from a rally organized by Sharpton's Action Network over the Sean Bell shooting. We were just taking up from a HazMat run in the are and soon took in another literally around the corner.

While I and a few other firefighters were standing outside the rig, a young black woman passed by and said, "Thank you for all you do."

I replied "Thanks! And God bless you" She turned again and said, "God bles you too."

I wanted to say something about how the worst of any group are no reflection on the rest of that group, but it's hard to put such things into words, or at least short phrases you could call out at a time like that, but in retrospect I probably didn't have to. I'm sure that woman knew that.

There are basically two kinds of people in the world - decent and indecent and within five minutes most of us reveal which one of those we are.

No black person should feel any more embarrassed by a Charles Barron, than an Italian-American should feel embarrassed by John Gotti. Those people are not reflective of the rest of those groups. Overwhelmingly, and despite our occasional weakenesses, most people (maybe over 90%) are kind and generous and decent.

The Charles Barron's and Mike Nifong's who'd use racial strife for their own gain, are relatively few and far between.
