Basically they see Nifong is an embarrassment to their profession and appropriately want him to get off this case.

DAs Call for Prosecutor in Duke Lacrosse Case to Step Down

Dec. 29, 2006 — In yet another moral blow to Durham County District Attorney Mike Nifong, the North Carolina Conference of District Attorneys called for the prosecutor to step down from the Duke lacrosse case.

The group, which represents district attorneys from across North Carolina, said in a statement that “it is in the interest of justice and the effective administration of criminal justice that Mr. Nifong immediately withdraw and recuse himself from the prosecution.”

“As prosecutors, we do not try our cases in the media. We do not file charges frivolously,” Marquis, who is active in the National District Attorneys Association, told ABC News.

I’m getting the feeling Nifong got a few less invites to Christmas parties this year :D .

  1. JMK Says:

Nifong is a truly despicable man.

He blatantly and wantonly used a woman with a host of mental and emotional problems, took a complaint the local police believed was dubious (due to her many inconsistencies) and he ran with it, deliberately inflaming racial tensions and seeking jail time for three guys he almost surely knew were innocent of the charges he was filing against them…and he did it all for his own political gain.

I’ve said elsewhere, that these guys are far from “heroes” in my view, they shouldn’t have hosted a party where under-aged drinking was involved, shouldn’t have contracted with these strippers and certainly shouldn’t have engaged in the subsequent altercation, when the girls claimed they felt intimidated by one student who hoisted a broomstick, BUT Nifong is the real villain in this case and anything short of his disbarment would be a travesty of justice in this case.
