Even tax payers that endorse private businesses outsourcing have often disliked when their own tax dollars are spent overseas, instead of using local talent for a job requested by government. It looks like Oregon Republican State Senator Frank Morse has started outsourcing his speech writing to India.
A newspaper in India ran a story about it.
Now, it’s speech outsourcing
|
Who do you think pays for that? How many people in the state of Oregon are looking to be hired for a speech writing job? This man not only went outside of his state, but outside of his own country when looking for talent to write his speech.
Since people in India are writing his speeches, maybe voters in Oregon should elect someone from India to do his job? I’m sure someone in India would do it for much less than Morse is being paid. Not to mention a native Indian could probably get an even better deal on speech preparation services.
Republican State Senator Morse says that he told the audience he outsourced the speech to a Bangalore firm (named Brickwork India) and they loved it.
…
Morse learnt of Brickwork through Thomas Friedman’s book, The World is Flat.“I sent an email to Brickwork one evening and received a response the next morning. The speech was a great example of how small the world is. The audience loved it when I explained that a firm in Bangalore helped me prepare it,”senator Morse is quoted to have said on the company’s website.
…
Thomas Friedman is a NY Times columnist. His book is used by those looking for firms to use when outsourcing work.

Here comes the speech BPO
|
Well when you consider the audience was probably supporting the senator it’s a given they would love the idea.
Oregon’s Governor is Democrat Ted Kulongoski. I agree with Ted’s stance against sending tax payer dollars overseas. (Let’s see how many of my detractors will remember this the next time they consider calling me a Republican. I’m about principles, not party.)
The Bangalore firm’s head man sees even bigger opportunities ahead.
…
Kulkarni and his colleagues see this as a trend-setter. If speeches can be written continents away, can?t books and articles be? Brickwork is already doing research for close to a dozen authors in the US and UK for their technical and business books.
…
Hey, maybe the NY Times can outsource Friedman’s job?

Oh. My. Goodness. What is America coming to? I can’t even call up Dell to order a new printer cartridge without getting either an Indian or Pakistani or Mexican, who cannot speak English … It took me 15 minutes to order 2 printer cartridges.
My husband said he always hangs up and redials until he gets someone who can actually speak English.
Now our politicians are outsourcing their speaches? I shouldn’t be surprised, but I am.
