A while back a bunch of stats came out that caused a stir. One of the stats was that “75% of people on the most wanted list in Los Angeles are illegal aliens”.
Some claim this stat is not true. I think this stat has a strong basis in fact. Have a look at the Los Angeles Police Department’s Top Ten Most Wanted List. I’ll list the current names there below:
Out of that list of 10, only one, a Black man named Kirk Lamont Colby has a name that is native American. Of the other 9 there is one man named Vahagan Akopyan who was part of an Armenian gang, so I’ll assume he’s Armenian. And the remaining 8 all appear to have Hispanic names. Since the LAPD does not track which criminals are here illegally, we don’t know if the Armenian or men with Hispanic names are definitely illegal aliens, but I suspect most or all of them are. Because I doubt that someone who went through the trouble to immigrate into the USA legally would do something to get themselves on that list. I think the odds are far lower of that happening. So I’m comfortable with thinking that it’s very likely that 90% of LA’s most wanted are illegals.
So this means the stat of 75% probably is not true, because the figure is likely higher. And given that, I think other stats attributed to LA crime are probably based in fact.
