This one hurts. I first heard about Ted Haggard when he was named one of the 25 most influential evangelicals by Time Magazine. Of course, even then I was uncomfortable with the label of "influential evangelicals". It really is just setting folks up for a fall. Despite whatever good things they do, they are still people and are subject to temptation, the commission of sin, and abuse of power. Still, his recognition was good in that it was taking the spotlight off Falwell and Robertson and the other "interesting" people who are called the "leaders" of Christians.

More than anything, this hurts in that it kills the witness of so many other Christians (unfairly so, but it does). It hurts in that it can push away newer Christians or folks on the fringes of faith.

I agree with you, though. It needs to be dealt with quickly and decisively. From all accounts, it does seem that he has been expunged from any leadership positions. That is good.
