Mike Gallagher Claims He Does Not Understand Why His Appeasement Offer to the Phelps Was Condemned? What a Crock!

So TailOverTeaKettle.com is reporting:

Mike Gallagher?s Response

I caught a few minutes of the Mike Gallagher show today, and he opened saying he just couldn?t unde[r]stand the bloggers and other radio hosts who condemned his giving one hour of his show?s air time to the Westboro ?Baptist? crazies in exchange for their promise not to picket at the funerals of the slain Amish girls in Pennsylvania.

It’s interesting to hear that Mike now is making claims that he can’t understand why anyone condemned his actions.

Because the moment he made the gesture, even nutcase Shirley Phelps-Roper told him that people would be against it. He even said himself, after calls supporting him came in, that he thought he’d get a lot of calls condemning his actions.

That entire town was ready and able to drown the Phelps’ nonsense, so the grieving families would not see it. Just as the Patriot Guard Riders have done to the Phelps-nuts many times at funerals for fallen servicemen.

Mike and others talk all the time about not giving in to appeasement, but he defends it when he is the appeaser.

Since Mike wants to play dumb, here is a good explaination of why his actions were condemned.
Dave at TailOverTeaKettle.com says:

Putting them on a national radio show just gave them a platform larger than they ever could have hoped. And how can anyone think this has done anything except e[m]bolden them to aim high when they plan their next publicity stunt. What will the cost of the bribe be that time?

Plenty of people (we Mike’s critics included) sometimes make terrible decisions with the best of intentions, but to hear Gallagher first indicate he felt he would get a backlash, then claim he does not understand after the backlash hits is a bit disingenuous.

Word is that Mike was happy he got a nice write-up in the NY Slimes. When that fish wrapper says something nice about you, it’s really time to re-consider if you did the right thing.

  1. Mark Says:

I think the Amish people / community in Lancaster, PA probably would have handled the scumbags of Westboro quite well on their own. I think the protection Gallagher was offering was a bit disingenious.

I think the nation has learned a lot from the folks in Lancaster, and hopefully we all will re-examine our own lives and responses to tragedy and perhaps refocus on God.

    Great call Man!
