Oh Thank Heaven, 7-Eleven is Dumping Citgo!

by @ 11:38 am. Filed under Business, The Truth Shall Set you Free!

Fire and Hammer says all that needs to be said about this one.

I needed some gas yesterday and intentionally by-passed a 7-Eleven Citgo station for their neighboring competitor. I look forward to buying some 7-Eleven branded gas after they make the switch. The folks at 7-Eleven say it’s not because of Hugo’s comments that they are making this change, but made sure they would not be associated with Hugo’s comments.

7-Eleven, Citgo decide to end their fuel supply agreement

The Dallas-based chain said the moves to end a 20-year relationship with Citgo had been in the works long before Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez called George Bush “the devil” in a Sept. 20 speech at the United Nations.

Even so, 7-Eleven took advantage Wednesday of an opportunity to distance itself from Citgo.

“We sympathize with many Americans’ concern over derogatory comments about our country and its leadership recently made by Venezuela’s president, Hugo Chavez,” 7-Eleven said in a prepared statement.

In recent days, Citgo has been the target of bloggers calling for a boycott, and a Boston politician even demanded the removal of the famous Citgo sign outside Fenway Park in Boston.

But 7-Eleven spokeswoman Margaret Chabris said the change was unrelated to Chavez’s comments and had been in the works for almost a year.

“A lot of people took it out of context, thinking we are taking political position, which we are not. It’s not political, it’s a business decision.”

Citgo, in a prepared statement, said that earlier this year “after many months of deliberation” it decided to allow its gasoline supply contract with 7-Eleven to expire at the end of September.

The company said the contract to supply 7-Eleven didn’t fit in with its corporate strategy.

If others pumping Citgo gas would also allow their agreements with Citgo to expire, they won’t have to continue crying that people like myself are hurting them. Besides if I go to Citgo, I’d be hurting another gas station that wants my money :D .

It’s MY CHOICE TO MAKE and I’ll support the money hungry businessman that keeps his mouth shut, over a company led by a madman!

Some Alaskans Say Principle is Worth More Than Oil!

I am stunned by the steadfastness of the Alaskans that have turned away free heating oil from Venezuela and that country’s nut case President Hugo Chavez. Those poor freezing Alaskans have more patriotism in their mitten covered hands than most…
