My only goal with this is to press for consistency.

Back on June 7, 1998 a Black man named James Byrd was hitched to the back of a truck and dragged to death. It was a horrible crime. Extremely sick. The killers were 3 White men. Appropriately there was outrage and many a demonstration against this sick act. Two of the 3 men were sentenced to death and the third was sentenced to life in prison. The murder was also used as a tool of the political Left to bash Bush.

Now I read of another dragging death and I’d like to see some similar level of outrage, but I just don’t think it’s going to happen.

The suspect and victim are both Hispanic. I think this is a horrible crime. I would like to see plenty of media coverage and outcry against this act. I also would like to see some outcry against illegal immigration, given this may be yet another crime committed in America by an illegal alien. But even if the Left makes noise simply because of the crime without mention of the illegal alien aspects, I’d say they are being consistent.

They should also desire to apply their pet “hate crimes” laws, given this crime had to involve some serious hate. Of course I don’t press for hate crime laws, just stiff prosecution with existing laws. Because for me, all crime involves hate. I don’t care if the motivation is race, money or changes in a relationship. You’ve got to really hate somebody a whole lot to drag them behind your truck. Heck if I met Osama bin Laden today, I’d only shoot him in the head and get it over with. I’d let God handle him from there. Dragging someone behind a truck really is something you would expect of a terrorist.

I would really like to see some major outcry against this act, but I doubt there will be any. Will Conservative leaning outlets like mine and Michael Savage, where I found this article be the only ones to cover this? A lack of outrage devalues the life of the victim. If dragging someone to their death is a horrible crime, the response should be similar regardless who the suspect and victim are. If the political Left fails to make an outcry about this, they will have proven that they used the horrible murder of James Byrd as nothing more than a race baited political tool.

Will any Women’s rights groups speak out? Since the victim was Hispanic (Brown which is a color, just like White), will the NAACP speak out? Will La Raza speak out? I would like to see all these groups make a loud outcry, but I doubt they’ll show the moral honesty to speak against a crime when the killer might be a Hispanic illegal alien and the victim a Latina.

update 9/22/2006 4:11PM: TailOverTeaKettle.com found the name of the victim, Maria Franco-Fierros from Mexico. No word on her immigration status, but Mexican authorities had to identify her, so we know most likely she did not enter legally either. I suspected that, but just the same the crime occurred on US soil and should be treated like the horrible crime that it is. I say if the suspect is found guilty, deport him back to Mexico in a pine box! The picture found near Maria was of the suspect Jose Luis Rubi-Nava and his wife in Mexico. (Maybe she found out he was hiding this from her?) Maria was living with him here in the USA, but he like many other men who enter the USA illegally, has a wife and kids back in Mexico. Our porous borders help unfaithful men cover their tracks. Because when/if they send money back home, you know they’re not including pictures of their woman/women in the US. But hey, you’re supposed to believe the guys coming across the border illegally are all honest men of faith. Nevermind their breaking US laws, identity theft and adulterous affairs. Which is in this case may have ended in a horrific murder.
