Putting Troops at Risk. Confusion Over the Rules of Engagement Prevent Killing Taliban at Cemetery! (Video link)

by @ 3:47 pm. Filed under Terrorism and War

Imagine almost 200 high level Taliban fighters directly in the sights of a US missile. All that needs to be done is for someone to give the command to “FIRE”. What could be a better opportunity for our troops to take out some of the enemy? What would prevent it? Confusion over the rules is what. Check out this video from NBC News. Commanders in Afghanistan held off on giving the order to fire, because the fighters were in a cemetery and US commanders felt it would be against the rules of engagement to fire on them there. The video points out that the enemy is not following any such rules. It is idiotic that our troops consider rules that the enemy could care less about. Politicians haggle over this kind of mess, while it only puts troops lives at a greater risk! The Pentagon says that they could have taken the shot. I only wonder if they are saying that now that this information is public? Osama bin Laden is probably in Pakistan. I wonder if any special forces troops ever called into their commanders to say where a missile could be fired, but it was not done because of fears it might offend the government of Pakistan, to fire onto their soil without prior warning?

Even if those commanders in Afghanistan were mistaken and the Pentagon would have allowed the shot to be taken, they obviously have become so tied down by various rules that our enemy does not acknowledge, that it’s hurting their ability to wage war. It is time the Bush Administration make it clear, this enemy can be killed anytime, anyplace, anywhere.

There should only be one rule of engagement with this enemy. Kill them on sight!

I’ve got a feeling come 2009 or later, we’re going to find that the Bush Administration passed up some prime opportunities to kill the enemy.
