Help Bill Cosby’s Real Message Get Out to the Masses. Cosby Says the MSM is Not Doing it.

Columnist Clarence Page was contacted by Dr. Bill Cosby, so that Page could tell the world what Dr. Cosby’s message is really about.

Be sure to read this in full when you can.

Cosby’s lament

Mr. Cosby was calling out of frustration, he said, over the failures of other media to report what he has been trying to say. The Washington Post, which first reported the uproar over his 2004 speech, and other media have focused too much, in his view, on his sarcastic language. Too little attention has been given to the problems about which he was speaking: The crime, violence, school dropouts, out-of-wedlock births and other self-inflicted plagues among black youths left behind by civil rights reforms.

“Our children are trying to tell us something (with their self-destructive behavior) and we’re not listening,” he said.

I listened. He talked. I took notes. Among those who missed his point, the last straw for Mr. Cosby appears to have been an op-ed essay by Michael Eric Dyson, a University of Pennsylvania humanities professor and well-known Cosby critic, in the July 21 edition of The Washington Post. Mr. Dyson lashed Mr. Cosby’s “blame-the-poor tour” for ignoring major political and economic forces that continue to reinforce black poverty, like low wages, outsourcing, capital flight, downsizing and substandard schools.

“None of these can be overcome by the good behavior of poor blacks,” Mr. Dyson declared.

But, of course, that statement is wrong, dangerously wrong in the disrespect it pays to the value of good behavior. As generations of successful black families can attest, good behavior won’t solve all of your problems, but it beats drugs, crimes, abuse, child neglect or other self-destructive behavior.

I like to call all of those destructive behaviors “thugism” and I will continue to fight against it. People like Michael Eric Dyson are no better than a CAIR spokesperson! Continually giving excuses to the real bad guys who are the thugs, while trying to blame everyone but the thugs. This is why Dyson lauds “thug life” rapper TuPac Shakur. The same thug rapper supported by soon to be former congresswoman Cynthia McKinney. As I said in a previous post, this garbage is all culturally connected! Just as Islamic radicals have their defenders who try to downplay the actions of terrorists, their sponsors, their atrocities, their moral depravity and their cult; thugs have their defenders who try to downplay the savagery they bring to American communities.

And that’s just the way it is. Those of us who give no sanction to thugary and others who will continue to make excuses.

I pray you are not one for excuses. Help people to help themselves, by telling them that they can use good discipline, work smart and diligently, to do well in America. It worked perfectly for me and everyone I know who tried it. And now we look at the thugs we grew up with and THANK GOD we didn’t act like them! Because they had a choice, just like us.
