US and South American Financiers of Hezbollah

by @ 12:03 am. Filed under Illegal Aliens, Terrorism and War

Everyone knows about Iran and Syria supporting the terrorist organization Hezbollah, which is also a political party in Lebanon. But Hezbollah is also getting financial support from right here in the USA and South America as well. Sometimes, Hezbollah supporters from south of the border use our porous southern US border to enter the USA and fund the terrorist group from within our own nation.

Hezbollah’s Hoard

Its primary backer is Iran. But a lot of money comes from the Americas.

Iran is the biggest patron of Hezbollah, delivering $100 million or so a year to the terrorists, according to Senate testimony from Matthew Levitt, now a Treasury Department official. But like any enterprising criminal organization, the Party of God has worked hard to diversify its cash sources. The feds have long suspected it has profited from blood diamonds out of Africa, operating through expatriate Lebanese. It also turns out there are important financial channels right here in the States.

The money comes from, among other sources, illicit trade in tobacco and controlled substances. Last month Imad Hamadeh of Dearborn Heights, Mich. and Theodore Schenk of Miami Beach pleaded guilty to federal racketeering charges over their involvement in a cigarette-smuggling gang that avoided $20 million in sales taxes. According to federal prosecutors, the ring was also engaged in diverting funds to Hezbollah.

Federal prosecutors in Michigan say Hezbollah gets more support in their area than any other Mideast terrorist group. That may have drawn Mahmoud Kourani, a Hezbollah money man, to Dearborn, Mich. after slipping into the U.S. illegally through the Mexican border. The brother of a Hezbollah general, Kourani hosted fundraisers for the Party of God before he pleaded guilty last year to materially supporting the group.

South America is a viper’s nest of terrorist financing.

Please read that entire article. You will probably have to register for a Forbes.com account to read it, but this is information you need to get all the details about. (And yes I know there are ways to view registration only sites without registering, but I don’t endorse that kind of activity on my blog.)

I’ve said it before and will continue to say it. An expanded military effort will be required to destroy this enemy. And of course I feel the USA pressuring Israel to stop bombing the heck out of Hezbollah is a terrible idea. Hezbollah will use it’s financial support channels to build up with more surprises and kill more people in the future. Which will make them even harder to destroy.

President George W. Bush may have finished what his father started in Iraq, but he’s causing the job on Hezbollah to be left half done and it may prove to be worse than doing half a job in Iraq!
