Well the good news is that race hustlers can’t use Dekalb County, Georgia as a poster child for needing any special “minority only” perks. Although when I lived in neighboring Gwinnett County you’d never know Dekalb was doing this well if you listened to the so-called “Black leaders”.
Black-owned businesses thrive, offer help

With businesses, particularly Black owned businesses doing so well in Dekalb County, why was the soon to be former congressional representative of almost that entire county singing this when she lost?
“Let me tell you about hard work, minimum wage with a baby on the way,”
Obviously there are not many people on minimum wage in her district. Given the area’s business growth and the fact that in 2004 less than 3% (2.7%) of hourly paid workers were making at (0.7%) or below (2.0%) the federal minimum wage. Of that over 50% (51%) are under age 24. Over 60% (62.1%) have never been married, so they have no business doing what is done to make a baby in the first place. You can get all of the stats related to minimum wage workers here and here.
So the Liberals efforts to make it appear that such an overwhelming portion of our population is on minimum wage is a total farce. And their efforts to raise it are an even bigger crock. Because all they end up doing is hurting those people they claim to be helping, but ensuring there will be less people hired. Some claim there are not high percentages of people laid off when the federal minimum wage is increased, but that’s only becaues there are not many people on it to begin with. So some are laid off, but the number is small in terms of total workers, but signifigant to those who are put out of work. Economist Walter E. Williams explains the issues with government raising the minimum wage in common sense terms.
So we know Blacks in Dekalb County, Georgia are doing pretty well for themselves and helping each other be successful in business. That’s a good thing. We also know McKinney’s crying about minimum wage and a baby on the way is probably another one of her delusions. Another attempt at trying to make the world think the “Bush economy” is bad when it actually is so good. Dekalb County proves that not only can Blacks do well in America despite the claims of racism holding Blacks down, but they ARE doing well. I should also add, I know plenty of successful Black business owners that do not market on the basis of race. I had to add that for people that feel consumers should shop based on race instead of quality.
Hat tip Booker Rising.
Now I need to mention, given we know companies hire illegal aliens for labor off the books, is there really a such thing as a minimum wage? And why should illegals be able to bid their labor for any rate they please, while citizens must be at a forced minimum that might result in an illegal alien getting a job over them? Of course we need to close our borders, but lets stop this “minimum wage” farce.
update 8/11/2006 6:15PM: I should also mention that the number of people at or below minimum wage has gone down since 2002. I cited numbers in the post about from 2004, the latest numbers I could find, but in 2002 more people were on minimum wage. Funny nobody gives Bush credit for that. Because we know more jobs have been created in that time. So there were more jobs and less people on minimum wage between 2002 and 2004. When will Liberals sing about that?
