The past couple of days Larry Elder has been doing some great coverage of the Mel Gibson DUI case. Given he is based in that area. Sure it’s good Gibson has finally apologized for almost everything. Larry points out there is that female cop he called a pretty explicit name and Gibson never directly addressed that. But he said so much crap, it’s probably hard for most people to keep track of it all including the man who said it. It does seem Mel is really trying to say he’s sorry though. We just have to hope it’s sincere. Like I said in my previous post about this, I feel this is a very deep and nasty thing going on with him and if he really wants to rid himself of such hate it’s not going to be easy given his family history. In part he’s going to have to go against his own father, after obviously sharing some of his father’s views his whole life. The racial hatred could of more than just Jews. And in private he has to make amends with his wife, because she obviously did not know what he was doing that night! But let’s just hope he does better. Just the same he broke the law and as I’ve said I would not have been upset if a cop had broke his jaw (given him a whack) for his smart mouth. You know I could care less about mental state, drunken state or whatever. He disrespected officers of the law. And I don’t care if your name is Mel Gibson with some booze or Cynthia McKinney with none, police should be respected. The man still should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law, because he’s gotten off easy several times before.
Larry covers it all from various angles. First he spoke with Harvey Levin about how some police really were trying to cover up parts of this issue. Harvey details the conflicting stories he was given and it leaves no doubt that some police were trying to cover things up. Next Larry reviewed the police press conference on the matter. And finally he read a transcribed version of the police report. (Transcribed by the Los Angeles Times.) It turns out the arresting officer is Jewish! And that officer is even given some interesting statements over time. Because now that officer says he feels it was the “booze talking”, but in his report he says that Gibson’s actions “frightened him to a point”. The arresting officer is the lowest guy in the chain who was simply trying to do the right thing. I hope nobody tries to hamper his career for doing what needed to be done in arresting Gibson and detailing the events. Everything that happened that night with Gibson was audio recorded and partially video recorded by police.
