Mel Gibson, Apology 2.0 (Audio)

Mel Gibson So Mel Gibson is finally directly addressing the issue he glossed over before. Which is how he trashed Jews.

UPDATE 3-Mel Gibson seeks forgiveness for anti-Semitic rant

LOS ANGELES, Aug 1 (Reuters) - Actor Mel Gibson apologized on Tuesday for making anti-Semitic remarks in a drunken rant and asked to meet Jewish leaders, but several called on the Hollywood superstar to first show deeds and not offer words.

Separately, U.S. television network ABC pulled a program about the Holocaust that Gibson’s company was producing, and a Los Angeles official defended the sheriff’s department’s handling of Gibson’s arrest against charges that he was shown favoritism.

“I want to apologize specifically to everyone in the Jewish community for the vitriolic and harmful words that I said to a law enforcement officer the night I was arrested,” Gibson said in a statement.

“I’m not just asking for forgiveness. I would like to take it one step further, and meet with leaders in the Jewish community, with whom I can have a one-on-one discussion to discern the appropriate path for healing,” Gibson said.

But several Jewish leaders said he must first complete his recovery program and and perform acts of goodwill such as visiting Nazi death camps before they would answer Gibson’s plea for help.

“We will know when the time is, but the time is certainly not when his press agents think it is,” said Rabbi Marvin Hier of the Los Angeles-based Simon Wiesenthal Center. “I certainly think he is facing his alcoholism, and now I think he needs to face the statements of bigotry and anti-Semitism the same.”

The photo of Mel with the ladies and bottles above is from the Hollywood trash mag In Touch Weekly, that provides more details. (It is an actual photo from that night and they have more.)

Exclusive interviews and pictures from the night of Mel Gibson’s arrest

“Mel had bloodshot eyes,” Todd Hausberger of Phoenix tells In Touch. “He was slurring his words.”

By 2 a.m. Mel decided to hit the road. “We all offered him rides and he shrugged it off,” recalls Kimberly Lesak of Louisville, Ky. Police arrested Mel 36 minutes later for speeding and his blood-alcohol level was 0.12 - well above California’s 0.08 legal limit.

Now, his rep confirms that the Passion of the Christ director has entered a rehab program. Find out more and see more exclusive photos in the new issue of In Touch.

I won’t be picking up a copy myself, but I think their article will be full of everything one would expect.

OK, so I think Mel is doing better. Although he’s going to have a long road if he’s serious about ending his hatred of Jews. I honestly feel he like his father has held this hatred his entire natural life and getting rid of it is going to be something on par with an exorcism. The hatred he harbors is deep and runs for generations. I pray he can do it. It would be good if he does break this generational curse that looms over his family. Or is this all just for good “PR”? Only Mel knows for certain and he’s got to answer to God for himself.

As I mentioned before, some folks were being overwhelmingly nice about this issue at first. I don’t know if they were afraid to speak against a man with a hit movie about Jesus or if it’s because they felt he is a Conservative or if they are accustomed to hearing Jewish hate to the point they are numb to it. But one man said what I feel really should have been said in response to Gibson’s mess and initial lame apology. That man is none other than Mark Levin.

Randy over at RightWinged.com points out that Mel Gibson is not as much a Conservative as some might think. And efforts to paint Gibson as a “Conservative” might be a bit off base. Unless he’s part of the Conservative nuts that never feel America should take the fight to the enemy’s doorstep and agree with Liberal conspiracy theories.

Hear what Mark Levin said using the audio below. And excuse the language, you know Mark Levin never sugar coats it.
