I saw this post on La Shawn Barber’s blog today and figured I’d offer my thoughts here. Be sure to read her post first.

I’ve heard that President Bush will attend this upcoming NAACP gathering. He would do better to spend that time on a golf course improving his swing, because his efforts won’t change a thing. If Bush wants to “reach out” to Black people he’d do better to spend more time at events run by Blacks that actually know he does not hate Black people. He gets more traction from Blacks that support him than going to hang with Blacks that will simply use the opportunity to trash him. The NAACP has been LOSING MEMBERS FOR MANY YEARS! So Bush should not waste his time with a bunch that many of us Blacks realize is no longer worth our time.

Regarding reparations. I think we should add up every penny given to every Black man woman and child since the end of slavery. (Using the old one drop rule, because we don’t want to miss one drop of “African blood” .) Include the current cost of land given to Blacks in some areas. Put this total on an invoice and mark it PAID IN FULL. Whatever America has given has already been more than was required by generations that never owned a slave. At this point Blacks are running a deficit with the USA and OWE the nation for the continually increasing expense of caring for some of our precious African blood .
