Many Christians confuse “love” with being “nice”. These words are not the same. Does a father not love their child when they apply this principle?
Proverbs 13:24 (New King James Version)
|
To discipline promptly and not “spare the rod” is very uncomfortable for the child. It is not something that is nice or pretty and just the same it is love. In doing so the father is not “judging”, but doing what is right. To tell others what is right is a good thing. We correct ourselves and in loving our neighbor as ourselves we must offer correction to the world as well.
I’ve found a write-up that you definitely should read in full. Although it incorrectly views Jesus as a man who is no longer living, it does clear up confusion many of you may have when it comes to matters of love, being nice, judging and offering correction. So I ask you to read it in full. Don’t read just part of it, read it all.

Great post. People want to confuse love with total acceptance of any and all behavior. Like you said as a parent we love our children enough to punish them if we see them engaging in dangerous or immoral behavior.
