From the group that had no problem running around in the media, now they want to keep the defense out of the media.

Of course the NAACP had no problems with information in this case going to the media when it was anything that favored the stripper accuser. I guess they are upset we know she’s slept with so many men and claimed the accused used no condoms, but the only DNA inside her body belonged to someone who does not play lacrosse for Duke.

The announcement that they are seeking a gag order was made at a meeting where people were discussing issues of violence and racism. Anybody think they spent a single moment talking about this other case, that seems not to get much attention? They held the meeting in a church and probably did not spend a single moment talking about that minister being murdered. What are they doing to help catch the killer? To bring “healing to the community”?

This is why I’m so cynical towards them. (Groups like the NAACP and people that flock to those kinds of gatherings.) Their double standards and backwards logic stink! And while they play all their racial crying and games, everyone sees straight through their bull!

update 5/26/2006 2:20PM: Attorneys not related to the case say that it is unlikely that the NAACP will be able to obtain a gag order and that DA Nifong is the only one who would be granted such an order.

On a related topic, several Durham attorneys — not connected with the lacrosse case — downplayed a hint by the NAACP that it would seek a judicial gag order to prevent defense lawyers from talking publicly about the situation.

The hint came Wednesday from lawyer Al McSurely during a Durham Conference on the Moral Challenges of our Culture.

“A freedom-of-speech issue is involved here,” said attorney Mark Edwards. “I don’t think he [McSurely] has any standing to ask for a gag order. Good luck to him.”

According to Edwards, prosecutor Nifong would be the only person with standing to request that defense lawyers be muzzled.

Even if they did get a gag order, would it really matter now? We all have already figured out that the accuser is a liar and these efforts to stop the release of information are rooted in the spirit of a racist lynch mob. Because their silence regarding the murder of minister James P. Morris proves a dead White life means less than the accusations of rape by a living Black woman.
