Sitting in church today, I had to reflect on something my mother did for me when I was young, that I am certain has helped my life in a major way. When I was young my mother would sit me down every night and we would read the Bible together. This does not require anyone to have any money, but it instills morals and values better than money could ever buy. It offered me the foundation to keep myself morally straight enough to avoid many of the issues I saw others I grew up with fall into. Of course I was viewed as “different” and once we all became adults they’ve each acknowledged to me personally that their way was not the best way. It was the odd-ball church boy that turned out better than the rest. (That’s what they have acknowledged to me, not just what I’m saying about myself.) I know it was because my mother would take the time daily to simply sit with me and read one chapter a night, that helped me along the way.
If it was a long chapter we might read it over several nights. If we ran into a short chapter we might read more than one a night. But staying in the word left me with something I could never stray away from.

When I tell my mother “I Love You” it can never express the volumes of gratitude I have for her efforts. She didn’t have a lot of money and when she got home from work she was always tired. But she went an extra mile to ensure I’d know the Lord. Knowing the one who established true morality and grants eternal life is the best a man/woman could ever know. Sure a mother giving physical life from the womb is beautiful, but to walk with me though out life and training me up in the Lord is what makes my mother exceptional.
I recommend all parents sit with their kids daily, for some time in The Word. Given the issues they face once they leave your sight, they need something implanted in their spirit that will help them overcome temptation.

Great advice. Your mother sounds like a great woman.
