Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr. is pastor of the Greater Mount Calvary Church in Washington, D.C. and his Palm Sunday sermon has the gay rights lobby in a tizzy. He decided to actually say that it takes a “real man” to accept the Lord and be straight. That it’s good for a man to have a desire towards women instead of other men. Given the gay rights lobby feels they should dictate words from the pulpit, Bishop Owens is the latest target of the National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC). You might remember this bunch from a previous post. Their effort to turn predominately Black churches into places that embrace sin continues. And all who say the gay lifestyle is anything but blessed by God are on their hit list.
Black gay group denounces Bishop Owens’ anti-gay sermon (includes audio link to a portion of the sermon)

I’ve never heard of this minister before, but he sounds like he’s preaching the gospel without compromise. He probably should not have had the straight men parade themselves in front of the church. We don’t want gays to feel that if they enter a church they will be identified by a process of visible elimination. We want them to know their lifestyle choice is a sin that they need to turn from, but not leave them sitting in their seat like nobody wants to be around them. We stand against all sin, including things like adultery, but lets not call all the non-adulterers to the front while we leave the adulterers looking on. (And he probably should have lightened up on some of the terms he described gays with.) Other than that I think the pastor was on point. We want the sinners to know their sin is wrong, but we are there to suggest a better way.
The pro-gay group wants Owens removed from the DC Mayor’s Interfaith Council. I guess you can’t council the mayor if you actually preach against a sinful lifestyle. The bottom line here is that gays want to control the pulpit and they make that known.

?Champions of inclusion, fairness and neighborly love must respond to purveyors of bigotry and intolerance like Bishop Owens,? said Dr. Sylvia Rhue, NBJC Director of Religious Affairs. ?For too many years, same gender loving people have been forced to endure persecution and condemnation in places of worship. The time has come for this to stop.?

In other words, they feel ministers that preach against the gay lifestyle must be stopped. Interesting how when preachers speak out against adultery people like Dr. Rhue keep their mouths shut! Only when a minister speaks against their favorite sin is it a problem. The audio clip in the link above is less than 2 minutes long. If that’s all he said about gays in the sermon, I’m sure he spoke about some other sins that they are saying nothing about.
The NBJC has started yet another effort to try and spread their pro-gay message throughout the church. They are calling this latest effort ?Faithful Call to Justice?. As if backing the gay lifestyle is “faithful”. This one starts June 24-25. And they’ve found yet another race baiting so-called minister to back their cause. This time Rev. Michael Eric Dyson, who now chairs their “Religious Advisory Committee”. This is the same man that regularly attacks Bill Cosby for speaking about the ills within Black culture. As if Black communities were not already suffering the effects of enough sin, now NBJC is trying to water down churches from speaking against the sin of homosexuality. This post from earlier today has some words that apply to them. In particular Romans 1:26-27.

Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr. Stands By His Ministry.
Bishop Alfred A. Owens, Jr. who I mentioned once before, caused a stir for trying to simply stand against sin. You can see my comments about his methods in that earlier post. He has offered a response to criticism of his Palm Sunday sermon.
