First I have to say, that I don’t feel the house of the Lord should be used for these sorts of things. The church was not being used for worship or teaching about the Lord at this event. So to me this event should have taken place outside of the sanctuary, if on church grounds at all. Having a rally at a church against something like child killing could be viewed as being within the bounds of doing God’s work, given it involves trying to save lives. But an illegal immigration “debate”? Nah, I’m not seeing any angle to justify that happening inside a church. I think this is a misuse of the church building that many of us are guilty of, myself included. (Handling non-church related matters by holding a meeting at a building used as a church.) But I feel we’ve got to do better in this regard. I know it’s something I’m trying never to do again. I did it once and really do regret it. Regardless of my thoughts on the location for yesterday’s event in Chicago, it happened and the results are pretty stunning. It seems members of the Left are unable to respect authority when in church. And they get even worse once they are outside.

They attended what was supposed to be a debate over illegal immigration at a church. The head proponent of illegal immigration that was slated to speak backed out. Ironically they backed out claiming that people who are against illegal immigration could get violent. When it was the people in favor of open borders that were really about to riot. As usual, the open borders Leftist claimed that people who want to see their nation’s borders treated as actual borders are racist. It’s interesting how they keep using the “racist” line when nobody is buying it, but themselves.

There was an attempt to still have a meeting, but the disrespectful Leftists prevented that from happening. Then they chased and accosted the Freedom Folks, to the point that police had to intervene and grant protection to the Freedom Folks. Now if the police are protecting the Freedom Folks, who’s the violent offender? The Leftists are the violent offenders!

update 5/6/2006 5:29PM: The Freedom Folks’ (Jake Jacobsen and The Bald Chick) video of the insanity is over at Hot Air.

I had some correspondence with Jake about the nuts at the scene. He mentioned that although they’ve seen violence and other rowdiness more than once, the people doing it are never Latino. While it is true that in places like Los Angeles some of the May 1 protest marches by Latinos had violence, they are not the ones who have physically gone after Minutemen. Ironically, the Latinos that destroyed property in Los Angeles destroyed a store that was owned by an immigrant. But the people who are doing the repeated violence mostly seem to be non-Hispanics. As the video from the Freedom Folks shows, the Bald Chick was chased by a Black woman. And the mob was full of Blacks and Whites. This shows that people from outside of Latino communities are the main ones pressing things to all out violence. We already know that many of them are backed by socialist groups. The same socialist groups that claim to be anti-war. But many of their events include violence and destruction of property. Which proves they are all for war when it meets their terms.

Also Jake mentioned, the only news outlet that did an honestly fair report of the mess was Univision. It seems the Latino news outlet is trying to help its viewers see who is trying to drive things towards violence.
