Why is Trent Lott Endorsing John McCain for President?

by @ 6:50 pm. Filed under Questionable Items

Today on Sean Hannity’s radio program, Mississippi US Senator Trent Lott endorsed Arizona US Senator John McCain for President.

This is a prime example of all that is wrong with party politics.

With the exception of abortion, John McCain runs with the Liberals on many issues of importance. His campaign finance reform is unconstitutional and President Bush should never have signed it into law. McCain’s position on illegal immigration, is to reward those who enter our nation illegally. And he is unable to realize that marriage should continue to be defined as one man and one woman by the federal government. I say “continue to be defined” because the federal government has a long history of upholding marriage as the union of one man and one woman.

Until today’s Liberalized pockets of society, both the federal government and even the Republican party realized that polygamy should not be allowed in the United States of America. This is why the state of Utah was continually denied statehood, because of widespread polygamy, that was then endorsed by the Mormon church (Church of Later-day Saints aka LDS). That’s right gay advocates, the fight to protect marriage did not start with you! The Morrill Antibigamy Act was passed into law in 1862 and banned polygamy. It was signed into law by then Republican President Abraham Lincoln. (Did you get that “Log Cabin Republicans”? The “Log Cabin Republicans” are a group of pro-gay Republicans.) The Republican Party used to fight against the “Twin Relics of Barbarism, Slavery and Polygamy”.

George Washington warned against the dangers of party politics, but obviously Trent Lott is a man of party, not principle. Senator Lott informed Mr. Hannity, that he is backing McCain because he feels McCain might win and he’d like to have an influence on policy if that happens. He said he does not want a VP spot. This is nothing put political posturing. If Trent Lott was a man of principle, he would endorse a candidate for President that embodied the principles that not only he claims to uphold, but that Americans uphold as well. Trent Lott has compromised himself in hopes of political gain and for his “party”.

This is why I encourage independence and devotion to one’s principles over allegiance to any political party.
