Georgia Governor Sonny Purdue to Sign Bill that Denies Illegals Benefits

by @ 2:20 pm. Filed under Illegal Aliens

This is a happy day in Georgia! Governor Sonny Purdue is going to finally sign the bill into law that will stop illegal aliens from leeching state benefits, that should only go to legal citizens.

Gov. to Sign Immigration Bill

Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue planned to sign a sweeping immigration bill into law on Monday, his office announced as supporters of the measure rallied outside the state capitol.

About 200 demonstrators gathered on the capitol steps to support the measure, which they say will just duplicate existing federal law. The law will deny many state services to adults who are in the country illegally and penalize employers who hire illegal immigrants.

The counter rally did not come near the gathering of tens of thousands of immigrants who marched through DeKalb County last week to demand recognition for illegal immigrants. However, organizers of the counter rally on Monday disagreed with the theme of the original march and said it does not matter what the economic impact of illegal labor is.

“Let’s assume that each state could make a $1 billion profit from not enforcing existing law. Would we be willing to do that and, if so, which other laws maybe could we ignore to further increase our profit?” asked organizer D.A. King.

“For me and most of us here, it is about the rule of law upon which our nation was founded and there really is no other agenda.”

Organizers of the counter rally said they would like Congress to go even further with harsher penalties for employers who hire illegal immigrants and the possibility of prison time.

The Georgia Security and Immigration Compliance Act will verify that adults seeking many state-administered benefits are in the country legally. It sanctions employers who knowingly hire illegal immigrants and mandates that companies with state contracts check the immigration status of their employees.

The law also will require police to check the immigration status of people they arrest to see if they face deportation orders.

The National Conference of State Legislatures says the measure is believed to be the first comprehensive immigration bill to make it through a statehouse this session. Many of the new law’s provisions will not take effect until 2007.

The bill drew protests at Georgia’s state Capitol and prompted a daylong work stoppage by some immigrants earlier this month.

Of course we know that having illegals around is a great expense, when they are given state taxpayer funded services.

It is great that this is happening on the same day that some people were able to protest giving into the demands of illegals. Also today’s Guard the Boarders Blogburst is a version of my previous post regarding how illegal immigration offers their employers a better deal than slavery. Maybe now Georgia state taxpayers will be partly free of the slave mater’s dilemma. We did not ask the illegals to break our laws, their employers did. So let them carry the burden until we can make things uncomfortable to the point that illegals realize that they need to simply leave and try entering the country legally like other law abiding immigrants.

Their blog always stays on top of issues of illegal immigration and keeps track of military related matters as well. Back to the bill the governor is going to sign today. When I contacted him asking that he sign the bill I received a very generic response, that did not offer any insight into what he would do. I am glad that he made the right decision. It’s time to draw the line and let legal citizens have the benefits setup for them and let illegals know it’s time for them to leave! Of course I’m not a big fan of many social services that give something for nothing, but that’s another matter for another post. At the very least the people getting government handouts on the taxpayer’s dime should be legal citizens.

Maybe the next time I have to go to the hospital with a loved one, they will be able to get the care they need without having to wait behind people who are in violation our laws and feel they deserve care on the taxpayers dime. Let them go back over the border and get their care there until they learn how to enter the country legally. Any charity for them can be sent to them there on the other side of the border, in the nation they have legal claim to.

I’m sure with this and the cries of “racism” regarding attempts to pass a bill that requires people to show photo ID when working, that race baiters are going to claim that these are signs Purdue’s tenure is anti-minority. Being a Black man, I have to say that Sonny Purdue is doing better than I expected him to do and his tenure is one of the best I’ve seen in my time living in this state. Good job Sonny!
