US Senate Has a Majority of Votes for “One Man, One Woman” Marriage Amendment

by @ 12:04 am. Filed under Questionable Items

Although a simple majority does not a constitutional amendment make. Just the same, it is good to see that there are more potential votes in favor than before.

Marriage amendment picks up four Senate votes over ?04

A majority of the Senate this year will support the Federal Marriage Amendment, an outcome that both the left and the right say will energize their respective bases in November.

In the summer of 2004, the effort to define marriage as between a man and a woman failed in the Senate, on a 48-50 vote. Now that Republicans have increased their majority, the amendment has collected more support. If all senators vote the way they did in 2004 and the freshmen vote as expected, the bill will attract 52 votes ? well short of the 67 needed to amend the Constitution.

It was interesting watching Ken Salazar act like he’s a Conservative Democrat during his campaign. And it’s funny to hear people claim Barack Obama leans Conservative. Because on votes like this they are as Liberal as they always are. These 2 men played on some Conservatives during their campaigns, but if you check their voting records you will see they are total Liberals.

Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) does not support the amendment.

Sen. Ken Salazar (D-Colo.) also plans to vote against the measure.

Republican Liberals that are expected to vote against the amendment are John McCain, Lincoln Chafee, Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe and John Sununu.
