Efforts to Suppress the Christian Faith on College Campuses

by @ 7:41 pm. Filed under Evangelicals Under Attack

Now when we Christians call sex outside of the wedlock of one man and one woman a sin, we are decried as having made statements of “hate speech” and being “intolerant”. It is interesting how the advocates of sin are so intolerant of the gospel. They are intolerant of the truth, while they are the ones that claim to embrace tolerance. They press for institutions of higher learning to hide any scripture based teaching that speaks against the sin they and their associates enjoy.

At Georgia Tech there are policies in place to keep Christians from speaking out against the gay lifestyle. In response Christians are speaking up and standing against the policy.

Christians sue against gay policies

A lawsuit by a Georgia Institute of Technology student in Atlanta is the latest in an effort by religious groups to legally fight policies protecting gays.

The campaign seeks to force public schools, state colleges and private workplaces to eliminate such policies, reports The Los Angeles Times.

In the Georgia Tech case, the senior claimed her Christian faith compels her to speak out against homosexuality. She sees the school’s ban on any speech putting down others because of their sexual orientation as an infringement on her right to religious expression, says the report.

A leading evangelist told the newspaper, “Christians are going to have to take a stand for the right to be Christian.”

Students on college campuses can walk around with a picture of Cuban killer Che Guevara and spew anti-American rhetoric, but on campuses like GA Tech students are banned from speaking against sin.

In related news, schools that embrace full expression of the Christian faith are still being targeted by so called “Equality Riders”/”Soulforce”. I spoke about them in a previous post. Interestingly enough, they have found a Christian school that was a little too kind to them. Kind to the point of abusing the faith, by knowingly taking communion with these promoters of sinful activity. That are riding around harassing Christian colleges. Here is the report direct from the group’s web site.

“The Table is Open,” But Are All Welcome?

Each Rider was paired with a student from Azusa throughout the day in order to foster personal sharing and relationships. Equality Riders joined students that morning for the Easter Chapel, a full student body event that happens each year before Easter break. The high-tech service, with screen projection, theater lighting and electronic instruments came together with the ancient Christian tradition of communion, a tradition that the Riders have not been able to take part in at any college. As the elements were handed around the arena, the service leader announced, “The table is open; all are welcome.”

What a mockery of the body and blood of Jesus. Azusa Pacific University’s efforts to be hospitable have given the appearance that Christ himself might endorse their sinful efforts. To the contrary, Jesus said:

Mark 10:6-9 (New King James Version)

6) But from the beginning of the creation, God ‘made them male and female.’

7) ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,

8) and the two shall become one flesh’; so then they are no longer two, but one flesh.

9) Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”

Regarding communion, Paul points out that it is not to be taken lightly.

1 Corinthians 11:27-33 (New King James Version)

27) Therefore whoever eats this bread or drinks this cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

28) But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of the bread and drink of the cup.

29) For he who eats and drinks in an unworthy manner eats and drinks judgment to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

30) For this reason many are weak and sick among you, and many sleep.

31) For if we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged.

32) But when we are judged, we are chastened by the Lord, that we may not be condemned with the world.

This is why I appreciate the Catholic ministers that refused to offer communion to someone like Senator John Kerry. Because they know he endorses policies that continue baby killing in America. Likewise officials at Azusa Pacific University should have never found themselves taking up communion with people who came with the expressed intent of promoting a sinful lifestyle.

Now you would think that this would make the so-called “Equality Riders” very happy and they would say nothing but nice things about APU, but that’s not the case. The report the “Equality Riders” give also mentions:

Although Azusa Pacific appeared to take a relatively tolerant stance toward openly-LGBT students on campus, the school continues to hold a policy which bans all students from sexual activity outside of marriage, with no approved form of recognition for same-sex relationships available. According to students, the school has also invited “ex-gay” speakers to discuss unscientific theories of “changing” sexual orientation.

You see, even letting them in and treating them way too nice was not good enough! They want schools to allow all forms of sinful sexual activity and if any are banned, then they want sinful forms of “relationship” to be be permitted. Which would defeat the entire purpose of a ban in the name of keeping a campus that reflects the teachings of Christ. And they totally reject that Christ is able to turn someone away from the gay lifestyle. Notice how they run to science and away from faith with statements like “unscientific theories”.

The pro-gay group goes on to mention:

“When students are struggling with accepting their sexuality in light of their faith, there must be safe space for them to have their questions answered and their feelings validated without judgment or fear of reprisal,” Reitan said. “Azusa has taken a great step forward toward letting that happen here today, but this step is only the beginning.”

In other words, APU should allow people who are being drawn towards sin to embrace it!

Now look at what they say about their trip today to Brigham Young University.

The Equality Ride’s next stop is at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah on April 10 and 11, where Riders will confront the deadly policies of the Latter Day Saints, which have caused countless suicides by LGBT Mormons.

A church that denounces sinful activity has “deadly policies”. Yes this bunch of “Equality Riders” are about as debased in nature as a common animal with no discipline.

They attempt to compromise the light of truth that cannot be compromised.

John 3:18-21 (New King James Version)

18) “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

19) And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.

20) For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.

21) But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”

I hope BYU is rejecting this endorsement of sin.

update 4/11/2006 12:07PM:
Looks like BYU officials gave them warning ahead of time, but the so-called “Equality Riders” still tried to promote sin on the BYU campus and were rightfully arrested.

Gay and Lesbian Activists Provoke Arrests at BYU

A group of Lesbian and Gay activists claims members of their “Equality Ride” group were arrested on the Brigham Young University Campus Monday. They also claim the activists were later released without bail and given a summons to appear in court.

BYU, which is owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enforces a policy that prohibits [homosexual] behavior among students and faculty.

According to an article published on March 24th in BYU’s student newspaper The Daily Universe, the lesbian and gay activists were forewarned not to hand out literature or engage in public speeches.

The activist group plans to visit several other religious schools across the country. They also plan to demonstrate in front of the Provo LDS Temple on Tuesday.

A pro-gay group going to a temple to protest for the advocacy of sin is a prime example of how this “Soulforce” bunch really is not expressing the spirit of the Lord.
