If it Happened Because She’s Black, Why are Other Black Congresspeople Keeping Their Distance?

McKinney Nut A report from The Hill shows that although McKinney is throwing around the race card, other Black members of Congress are keeping their distance.

McKinney with celebrities in tow defends actions

In a hastily arranged press conference at Howard University Friday evening, Rep. Cynthia McKinney (D-Ga.) accused a U.S. Capitol Police officer of touching her inappropriately and instigating a bizarre scuffle at an entrance to the Longworth building Wednesday.

McKinney allegedly hit the officer with her cell phone after he stopped her for identification at a security checkpoint. The officer, whose identity remains unknown, is likely to file assault charges against the congresswoman, two sources told The Hill, which could result in her arrest as early as next week.

Standing against a backdrop of two-dozen Georgia schoolchildren holding signs that read ?God Bless Cynthia? and ?Is Cynthia a Target?? McKinney told a dozen assembled TV cameras that the officer was at fault, implying that her race, gender and politics had played a role in the incident.

McKinney and her lawyers announced no immediate plans to press counter charges against the officer, although they did not rule out such an action.

Myart sought to dispel any impression that McKinney had apologized when she said she ?deeply regret[ted]? the incident.

?There is and will not be an apology in this situation,? he avowed.

Meanwhile, a spokeswoman for Rep. Juanita Millender-McDonald (D-Calif.) contradicted reports that the congresswoman had intervened on McKinney?s behalf with the Capitol Police in an attempt to avert her arrest.

Millender-McDonald, who is the senior Democrat on the House Administration Committee and a member of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), held a conference call with House Sergeant-At-Arms Wilson Livingood on Wednesday to inquire about the status of the inquiry, said her spokeswoman, Denise Mixon. Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.), chairman of the CBC and a staff member from the office of House Speaker Dennis Hastert (R-Ill.), were also on the call.

?The issue of an arrest was never brought up,? Mixon said. ?She asked him what was going on and asked him to keep her posted.?

Del. Eleanor Holmes-Norton (D-D.C.), another CBC member, spoke with Livingood this afternoon, according to a statement read at McKinney?s press conference, but indicated she was merely seeking information.

It would be ?inappropriate to intervene in a formal criminal investigation,? she said.

It’s interesting how children were used in her defense.

The ACJ mentions:

McKinney accuses Capitol Hill cop of racism

McKinney said members of the Congressional Black Caucus are backing her, though members of Congress who were supposed to attend Friday’s press conference didn’t show up.

If this were a racial issue, it seems to me that members of the CBC would be coming out of the woodwork in protest and support of McKinney. And I’m not talking about what they might calculate to do next Monday or later. I’m talking about ALREADY. They would have been jumping up crying “me too” ALREADY! This would have been a moment to speak openly about supposed oppression from Whites. But instead members of the CBC are staying out of it. Which is another clear sign that McKinney is a real April Fool!

As a people, we have to learn to do better. We have to learn to shun those who have a tendency to bring us down. We have to learn that
everyone who has black skin doesn’t always have our best interests at heart. I’ve been up close and personal with Cynthia McKinney, and
from our interaction I determined that I could never in good conscience give such an ignoramus my vote! Now, if only the rest of my
neighbors in the 4th District would do the same.

pajoyner – I owe you an apology. And really this is not an “April Fools joke”. I used to live in the 4th. Back then I did not really vote as strongly on my true values and would fall for some of the race-bait. I voted for her (twice). I later realized the error, but still regret those votes.

Maybe that’s why I blog about her so much. Because I’m so ticked that I was played by folks like her in the past.

Please consider my efforts here as a means to try and make up for past mistakes that had a direct impact on you and me as well.

I have since moved to the 7th district and it’s really nice having a representative that actually represents what my true core values are. I really don’t care about his skin tone. Given his values are more in line with mine, he has my best interests in his votes even if he’s not thinking about me at all. Because I’d probably vote a lot like him if I was in congress. And I’d probably be reprimanded by others in Congress for calling McKinney a few names :D .

Cynthia McKinney Has Officially Been Deemed Politically Radioactive!

Everyone in DC is running away from her. EVERBODY! Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is running, the Congressional Black Caucus is running and Rep. Steny Hoyer is running. Nobody in DC will stand with her.
