After Ron Kuby gave testimony that probably helped Gotti John A. (Junior) Gotti get off again, it was anyone’s guess what would happen on the Curtis & Kuby show today. Given co-host Curtis Sliwa, founder of the Guardian Angels was pretty upset, since he was almost killed in the attack that was a focus of the trial.
It seems things were peaceful in nature and WABC offers this recap.
Curtis & Kuby – Monday, 3/13:
In their first show since learning of the mistrial last week in the John Gotti Jr. case, Curtis and Kuby did some serious on-air soul searching. Curtis said plainly that last week was the most difficult week he?s ever had in his fifteen years of radio! He and Kuby even had a meeting with management last night to discuss the events of the past few weeks and how the show will continue on in the future. For his part, Kuby acknowledged that his tone when discussing the trial and his testimony contributed to the recent tensions and that he often has trouble empathizing with others. He told Curtis that while he consistently made the point that the trial was not about him (Curtis) and that in a legal sense that was correct, he failed to recognize that for Curtis it was very personal indeed.
Later on, Curtis and Ron were joined by Religion On the Line?s Rabbi Joe Potasnik, who assured us that he would be able to keep the two co-hosts together on the morning show. Rabbi Joe began offering his services last night during Religion On the Line, when he spoke with Curtis and made the point that if he and Kuby were to part ways on the morning show, John Gotti Jr. will have succeeded in silencing Angel One, a persuasive point Curtis admitted.

So it looks like they will continue to work together. But I doubt Curtis will be having Kuby over for dinner any time soon. Mr. Sliwa is being more than gracious, given the events of this past week.
update (3/13/2006 10:57PM ET): So what should Kuby have done if he was a true “friend”? I say he could have AT LEAST refused to answer the question on the stand until he was compelled to do so by the judge. A friend would have done that at the very, very least.
update (3/14/2006 10:15AM ET): Curtis took the day off from the show today.
