Bush is Still Playing the “Americans Won’t Do” Game. Wants to Raise H-1B Visa Cap.

If President Bush wants to train Americans to do more jobs in math and science, why bring in more skilled workers from overseas?

Bush urges Congress to raise H-1B visa cap

WASHINGTON, FEBRUARY 3: Making a strong pitch for America to stay competitive in the face of emerging economies such as India and China, President George Bush has urged the Congress to raise the number of H-1B visas that allow companies to hire foreign workers for scientific and high tech jobs.

Bottom line, while H-1B guidelines demand that those workers be paid a comparable salary, it always happens to be on the VERY LOW END of comparable. Which results in companies being able to claim they can’t find a highly skilled American worker and then hiring on the cheap from overseas.

President Bush is playing a very tricky game with Americans’ ability to find employment. Allowing illegals on the low end and more H1-Bs on the higher end. More Americans could be trained to do highly skilled jobs. To me President Bush is saying that Americans won’t or can’t do the jobs.

But at the State of the Union he said:

From: State of the Union 2006

Keeping America competitive requires us to open more markets for all that Americans make and grow. One out of every five factory jobs in America is related to global trade, and we want people everywhere to buy American. With open markets and a level playing field, no one can out-produce or out-compete the American worker. (Applause.)

Well we don’t have a “level” playing field with China tipping their currency against us! And with our President claiming to believe in us, but continually passing opportunities to workers overseas, what the heck kind of faith in the American worker is that?

Bush, still WAY BETTER than Kerry or Clinton, but failing when it comes to really standing by the American worker! But hey, in modern times all American Presidents have done the same.

Congress makes the call on this one, so you might want your representatives to know your thoughts about this.
