The Religious Jokes Were OK Till They Made Fun of Yours

It is interesting to watch Islamic Radicals riot over some cartoons. I’ve seen Blacks riot over a claim that a Black person died because of racism. (While they do little when a Black kills another Black.) I’ve seen Blacks riot when the Klan or Nazis wanted to march in a mostly Black community. I’ve seen Irish Christians riot because of attempts to make Protestants and Catholics go to the same school. I’ve read about Whites rioting over a claim that a Black man abused a White woman.

But never before in all my life have I heard of a group starting a massive riot over a cartoon. I feel all the riots mentioned above are ridiculous, but this latest act by Radical Muslims really outdoes all prior stupid ideas for starting a riot. And it is possible that a Catholic priest has been murdered.

Italian Catholic priest killed in Turkey, police says

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) – An Italian Roman Catholic priest was shot and killed Sunday in the courtyard of his church in the Black Sea port city of Trabzon, Turkish police said.

The police official would not say if the attack might have been linked to the printing in European newspapers of caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad, which has caused anger in Muslim countries. Earlier Sunday, some 300 Turks protested in Istanbul against the printing of the cartoons.

The priest, identified as Andrea Santaro, 60, was shot in the chest with a single bullet around 3:30 p.m., local time, hours after a Sunday mass, according to private NTV television.

“We condemn the attack against a man of religion,” Trabzon’s Governor Huseyin Yavuzdemir said. “Police are trying to catch the culprit in line with the witnesses’ descriptions.”

Earlier, some 300 ultranationalist Turks marched to the Danish consulate in Istanbul to protest caricatures of the Prophet Muhammad which were first printed in a Danish newspaper. The protesters hurled eggs at the building and burned a Danish flag. In a separate protest, also in Istanbul, some 2,000 people shouted slogans and burned an effigy of the Danish prime minister before dispersing peacefully.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Sunday that Turkey approved neither the publishing of the cartoons nor the violent demonstrations staged in protest.

“An irresponsible caricaturist comes and attacks my prophet, he has no right,” Erdogan said, addressing his party supporters in Istanbul.

“(But) to burn and to destroy is also wrong,” Erdogan said. “There is no solution at the end of the gun.”

Let’s be honest, the priest was killed in this rash of violence over some cartoons.

Also in other Muslim areas there is been wide spread violence with buildings attacked and burned. And given the win by Hamas in recent elections. Here’s what the leader of Hamas has to say about the cartoons.

Syrians torch embassies in protest of caricatures

the leader of the Palestinian group Hamas called the cartoons “an unforgivable insult” that merited punishment by death.

The Hamas leader is only saying what I would expect from him and his own words support my view that Hamas is nothing more than a bunch of terrorist thugs!

Many of the areas where violence is breaking out did not even publish the cartoons. And the riots are being encouraged in many areas by religious and sometimes political leaders in various Muslim nations. It’s just nuts!

The bottom line is that Islam is not the true religion and Muhammad is not God’s prophet! Jesus is the only way to God. I believe that just as Jews believe their way to God is best. Of course Muslims believe their way to God is best. But the fact of the matter is that modern day Christians and Jews do not run around killing people and burning buildings just because someone “insults” their faith. With Muslims is seems there is no shortage of radical nuts, that are more than willing to burn and kill in the name of defending their faith. While all 3 faiths Judaism, Christianity and Islam have similar roots, there is only one in modern times that has such a wide spread of radicals. And those who carry out the violence have verses in their “holy book” that they claim justify their actions. This is a problem. Jews and Christians do not have such justification in our books.

In modern times an equal sized mass of Jews and Christians can live integrated or as neighbors with no problem. That is not the case once an equal sized mass of Muslims are added to the mix. I’m not saying all Muslims are radicals, but I am saying that there is a problem within that system of belief which is causing too many of their followers to take a radical path. People can claims Christians have radicals like some White supremacist groups, but lets face it Muslim Radicals win the crown for insanity. I think Muslims are going to have to either work to standardize their faith on principles that are more peaceful or the non-Muslim world will begin to stereotype that entire faith as unworkable in Western society. So long as groups like CAIR have a leader that cannot openly accept Israel’s right to exist and specifically denounce violence in Israel, this faith will have issues in the Western World. And because of how the faith of Islam works I feel there will just be continual problems, unless members of that faith seek to change how their faith is practiced.

When attempts are made to compromise the Christian faith, me and fellow Christians speak out against it swiftly and specifically. A similar response will have to be done regarding things that some Muslims see as part of their faith. Their whole view of Israel would have to change!

La Shawn Barber has some interesting views about this and mentions:

Why Rolling Stone Didn?t Put Kanye West as Muhammad on the Cover

Liberal editors are a lot smarter than they look. If Rolling Stone had put Kanye West posing as Muhammad on the cover, they?d be in hiding, too. Instead, they chose the safer route: West, a rapper and contributor to the cultural toilet, posing with a crown of thorns on his head.

Christ is fair game, isn?t he? Unbelievers, liberals, and other secularists make fun of him, mock him, scorn him, and curse him, yet they steer clear of doing the same with Muslims? god. They know offended Muslims, unlike offended Christians, issue death threats.

Shay over at Booker Rising also has thoughts.

On Cartoon Rage

The U.S. government should not have criticized the Europeans here. These are tame compared to Arab Muslim cartoons about Jews or blacks. Wasn’t that disrespectful? Yet I don’t recall Jews or us causing such a ruckus. I don’t recall my government putting out statements whenever Arab Muslims make racist cartoons or music ridiculing Secretary Condoleezza Rice (who is a high-ranking government official…so coming to the defense of mostly Arab jihadi supporters is more important than defending a black colleague?), Ayaan Hirsi Ali of the Netherlands, or black people in general. Maybe we should start threatening to blow up stuff and behead Arab Muslims, and torch buildings whenever they defame our race (which should be before weekend’s end). If only Muslims of all races got as upset about terrorism done for their religion.

People outside of a given faith don’t get very upset when jokes of a religious nature are made. Conversely they might get upset if jokes are made about their own faith. But it seems only one faith on Earth has a large faction of followers that will KILL anyone that defies their faith.

update (2/6/2006 3:50PM ET):
Michelle Malkin has a link to ZombieTime, who lists plenty of images made of Muhammad and many were made by Muslims. Of course they are not rioting over anything made by Muslims. Christians are not supposed to make images of Christ, but regardless of the creator of an image Christians don’t go around having riots over it.
