Swann Ahead of the Pack in Pennsylvania’s Race for Governor

by @ 12:18 am. Filed under The Truth Shall Set you Free!

Swann Although I expressed some reservations, it seems the people of Pennsylvania may not have many when it comes to Lynn Swann becoming Governor. And if you consider him up against Ed Rendell I don’t blame them. Can’t say I know much about the other Republican running against Mr. Swann.

Multiple polling sources show Lynn Swann in the lead.

Strategic Vision:

Strategic Vision Poll

10. If the Republican primary were today, whom would you vote for? (Republicans only)
Lynn Swann 44%
Bill Scranton 34%
Jim Panyard 5%
Undecided 17%

11. If the election for Governor was held today, and the choice was between Ed Rendell, the Democrat and Lynn Swann, the Republican, whom would you vote for?
Lynn Swann 46%
Ed Rendell 44%
Undecided 10%

Rasmussen:

Rasmussen Poll

January 19, 2006–Our latest poll of the race for Pennsylvania governor shows Republican Lynn Swann, the former receiver for the Pittsburgh Steelers, narrowly leading Democratic Governor Ed Rendell 45% to 43%.

Fifty-four percent (54%) of voters view Swann favorably; 47% view Rendell favorably.

Lynn Swann has his own campaign blog up and the Rasmussen results are mentioned.

Anyone wondering what’s wrong with Rendell as Governor should not forget how he tried to suppress the votes of our soldiers overseas.

Pa. soldiers file ballot action

HARRISBURG - Two soldiers from Pennsylvania serving abroad filed a motion in federal court yesterday to force the state to accept overseas absentee ballots received after Tuesday’s election.

Without an extension, U.S. Army Specs. Matthew J. Schramm of Schwenksville, Montgomery County, and Steven J. Reitz of Venango County, probably won’t have their votes counted, according to the court petition filed by lawyers with the Republican State Committee.

“With the war in Iraq a major issue in this election, it is especially imperative that the members of the military actually waging that war have their votes counted,” according to the motion, which asks the court to extend the absentee ballot deadline until Nov. 17.

The controversy was sparked by the governor’s opposition to a federal court motion the U.S. Justice Department filed three weeks ago in Harrisburg to force an extension of the deadlines to receive the completed ballots.

Some overseas voters received absentee ballots from county election officials with Nader listed as a presidential candidate, while others received ballots without the independent’s name.

The state Supreme Court removed Nader from the ballot Oct. 19, citing an insufficient amount of legitimate nominating signatures.

As a result, Justice Department lawyers argued that thousands of voters could be picking from an incorrect slate and, therefore, would be treated differently from other voters.

Republican officials have also wondered publicly why Rendell supported a court motion last spring to allow a similar extension but is opposing this one.

Rendell eventually offered an extension, but it was a week short of what was requested.

Anyone not willing to do right by our troops does not deserve to win re-election.

Of course as I’ve mentioned before, I don’t put much stock in polls and the only poll that really counts is the actual election.

Hat tip to reader Remnant for the polling news tip.

WOW! Be sure to check out the link from Fire and Hammer. I think Mr. Swann is about to pick up a few more points. Despite Scranton firing his campaign manager for tossing race-bait, the article mentions that Scranton was for raising income taxes more than even Rendell! Wow, just WOW!

update (1/28/2006 12:12PM ET):
Michelle Malkin has video of the Bill Scranton’s former campaign manager James Seif making a fool of himself.

    Lynn Swann Exposed

Under normal circumstances I would criticize Scranton for firing Seif for a silly remark. However, Scranton is behind in the poles and does not need his campaign manager derailing his run just after leaving the station. Independent Conservative has som…

    I wish Swann much success.

I will keep an eye out on the Black Democrats who attack him and the White liberals who see his state as a Black non-Democrat as free reign to attack.

My ultimate goal is to have Black folks voting for who they damned well please rather than being beholden to the Democratic party.

I would most prefer an overlay political and economic movement in which we put everything on the table and only retained the METHODOLOGIES that have been proven to work while shedding the rest. From that we can go back to our respective corners and work more effectively.

Lynn Swann, Michael Steele and Ken Blackwell represent a great threat to the Democratic Party and Black Democrats. These are 3 highly intelligent men who can’t be easily be tarred and feathered as “sellouts” despite the attempts to label them as such.

Dr. Ron Walters warned about the split of the Black vote. In truth this is exactly what is needed as a means of having the extreme left to moderate as a condition of unity.
