Georgia Revises Voter ID Bill to Give Away ID Cards to Anyone. But Pimps Still Cry!

by @ 2:23 pm. Filed under The Truth Shall Set you Free!

If you have not been keeping score, the state of Georgia wanted to ensure that there was a lower likelihood of fraud during voting. So a law was created that would require anyone going to a poll to vote on election day to show a picture ID. Of course Povery Pimps cried and they found a judge to stop the law. The complaint was that to require an ID was a form of “Poll Tax”, although poor people would have been able to get a free ID, by filling out a form declaring they were not able to pay. So now the law has been revised, to give away voter ID cards for free to anyone. All of GA’s 159 counties will have equipment to make the cards. The Governor just signed the bill. Do you think that the Poverty Pimps and Race Hustlers are yelling “free at last”? Nope! They are still crying that even a FREE FOR ALL process is discrimination against the poor, elderly and minorities. Obviously free some how discriminates  . The real reason they keep crying is because they know fraud often favors Democrats. Dead voters and other shady activity has been going on in Georgia, but some claim there is no fraud at polls on election day.

While the GA House was debating the first draft of the revised version of the bill, there was one very interesting moment.

House OKs revamped voter ID bill

But freshman Rep. Melvin Everson, R-Snellville, who this week became the first black Republican in more than a century elected to the General Assembly in a contested race, said fraud is the real source of disenfranchising honest voters in Georgia.
Everson won his seat last summer in a special election when the photo ID law passed last year was still in effect and said there were no problems with it.
In his first speech on the House floor, he countered Democratic arguments that the law isn’t necessary by comparing the photo ID to a smoke detector.
“I don’t wait until the house has burned down before I put in a smoke detector,” he said. “This is a protective measure.”

Liberals are all for giving free condoms away to children as a “proactive” measure, but when it comes to an honest vote they run and hide! Also some Liberals are claiming that everyone who does not have a photo ID will not be able to get one in time for November elections. What a crock! November elections are a little over 9 months away. And even any primary before then is months away. It gives anyone plenty of time to get a photo ID. Not to mention we know poor people already have photo ID!!! As someone pointed out on a local radio show today, Grady Hospital is the largest single provider of health care to the poor in the entire state of Georgia. And anyone getting prescriptions is asked to show a photo ID. Never has a complaint been made that the poor were being kept from getting medical care.

The revised bill must go through judicial review, given Georgia is under special provisions of the Voting Rights Act. I think it’s time to let those special provisions expire. They are unconstitutional because they only apply to certain areas and not all states. Also they are race specific, which flies in the face of true equal protection, given it assumes people of the same race vote alike. Without the special provisions the rest of the Voting Rights Act remains in effect and if any issues arise corrective action could be taken via a judge’s order. The special provisions were given an expiration date, because it was expected that things would change for the better over time. They have and it is time to shed the old skin of the past. Let the special provisions die!

update (1/26/2006 2:49PM ET):
An MSM report about the signing of the bill:

Perdue signature sends voter ID back to feds

ATLANTA - Gov. Sonny Perdue signed the latest version of Georgia’s voter identification bill into law on Thursday, sending it to the U.S. Justice Department for the second time in two years.

Under this year’s changes, a state ID would be provided free to anyone who needs one and the cards would be available at least one location in each of Georgia’s 159 counties.

I hope this one gets past all the legal hurdles. The entire nation should be moving to a picture ID for verification on election day.

    Resistance to Voter Fraud Prevention

    Are Voter ID’s Race Cards?

It is time that all of us take responsibility for preventing voter fraud, regardless of how you vote. If simply doing the minimum of proving who you are is too much for a voter, then perhaps you shouldn’t be allowed to have the honor.

You are not being fair. How do you expect a poor person to figure out how to get an ID in a two years time between state elections. How can you be so cruel and uncaring?

The only revision is that now everyone can get a card for free at a government office in their area. Instead of just people who are too poor to pay getting them for free. It was good before, it’s better now and I’m sure we will still hea…
