Poll Shows Michael Steele Leading in Maryland’s US Senate Race

by @ 12:22 am. Filed under Questionable Items

Steele A Rasmussen poll shows that Maryland Lt. Governor Michael Steele is now ahead of all other other candidates in that state’s US Senate race.

Maryland Senate: Steele Now Leading Dems (emphasis added)

By July, Democratic Congressman Ben Cardin led Lt. Governor Michael Steele by five points in our poll. Steele, however, was seven points ahead of former NAACP President Kweisi Mfume.

By November, Steele was neck-and-neck with Mfume, but Cardin had widened his lead over Steele to 49% to 41%. Yet since that time, the number of voters with an unfavorable opinion of Steele has fallen from 33% to 25% and the Republican candidate has pulled ahead of both Democrats. He now leads Cardin 45% to 40% and Mfume 45% to 38%.

Steele has increased his support among black voters in a square-off with Mfume. While the latter still wins most of the African-American vote, Steele’s share has jumped from 17% in November to 31%.

Thirty-six percent (36%) of all voters now view Mfume favorably, a five-point decline.

It is unusual for a Republican to be so competitive in such a solidly “Blue” state such as Maryland

It seems plenty of news outlets were mentioning when Ben Cardin was on top of the polls. But it’s a bit harder to find news sources covering these results that favor Michael Steele.

As far as Congressman Cardin goes, you can call him PACman!

Steele gains quarterly edge

Lt. Gov. Michael S. Steele collected $853,350 for his U.S. Senate bid during the last three months of 2005, outpacing Rep. Benjamin L. Cardin during the period, according to fundraising figures released by the campaigns yesterday.

As the perceived Democratic front-runner, Cardin, a 10-termcongressman, came under attack yesterday from members of both parties for his historic reliance on money from political action committees in his federal races.

“In 2004, 65 percent of his money came from corporate PACs,” said Allan Lichtman, an American University history professor running in the Democratic primary. Such groups, Lichtman said, “are designed to uphold their own special interests” rather than the interests of Maryland voters.

Alcivar, the Steele spokesman, said that Cardin has taken in a “disproportionate” amount of money from corporate PACs.

So much for those claims of Republicans being the corporate shills.

I don’t put much stake in polls and feel the only poll that really matters is the actual election. But it appears that both polls and money are starting to swing in Michael Steele’s favor.

    I wish this brother success.

HIS ELECTION WILL EXPOSE THE FRAUD THAT THE BLACK LEFT IS with regard to diversity.

The Black Quasi-Socialist Progressive Fundamentalists only wants Blacks who think like them.

This brother brings a lot to the table.

I hope that he limits his party work and focuses on the best interests of the nation.

Do you think that he and Obama will form a “Senate Black Caucus” that is more moderate than liberal??

I hope they don’t form any Caucus at all. The racial pandering via a “Caucus” needs to stop.

All Michael Steele should do if he wins is stick to his values and he will be fine. Although I disagree with him on the death penalty, I’ll let that slide for another pro-life Senator.

    MARYLAND’S FELON VOTER ACCESS ACT

My state’s Dems are lobbying hard to give all felons the right to vote immediately upon release: Democratic lawmakers, who have long pushed to restore voting rights to Maryland felons, say racial politics and election-year considerations make this the…

I’m not going to spend much time on this one, because I’ve spent so much time on this nut in the past in this post and then in this other one. At this point it’s only a matter of the rest of America figuring out what I’ve been…
