Al Gore Pimps the Legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. to Attack Bush

The Political Pit Bull has the details and I agree with him:

Where’s The Outrage Now?

Remember all those Democrats that were furious–just outraged–that President Bush dared to address his critics in a speech on Veteran’s Day? Well, I’m waiting patiently for their righteous indignation now that Al Gore used Martin Luther King Day to attack the President on the NSA surveillance issue:

What a shameless attack and use of political spin! The King wiretaps were approved by Democrat Robert F. “Bobby” Kennedy during the presidency of John F. Kennedy on October 10, 1963. Wiretaps of domestic calls between people that were preaching non-violence, while other Black Radicals were the ones preaching violence! President Bush’s order for wiretaps were of calls involving foreign contacts and people with known terrorist ties! The two are not comparable in the way Al Gore posed them. The King wiretaps were of domestic calls to check who Martin Luther King Jr. was under the “influence” of. While President Bush’s order was to prevent an actual terrorist attack and initiated after 9/11/2001. It’s interesting how the MSM ignores this recently foiled attack that involved wiretaps!

Al Gore should be apologizing for the actions carried out by members of his own party. The Nixon era is maligned for having performed domestic wiretaps and break-ins. While the actions that occurred during the times of the Kennedy’s and Lyndon B. Johnson’s administration are obfuscated. The intentional smear campaigns, blackmail and the fact that even Coretta Scott King received one of their blackmail tapes is never put on the administration of that time or their party. Never are these actions by Democrats stuck around their necks as Presidential Administrations, individuals and a party as vigorously as is done to Republicans. Notice how Gore mentions “government” and “FBI” in his speech when speaking of the MLK Jr. wiretaps, but never mentions the words “Kennedy”, “Johnson” or “Democrat”! Oh but he had no problem saying “Bush” and “Republicans” when speaking of more recent wiretaps.

A good short read of some of the smear tactics that separates some of the truth from fiction are mentioned in this writeup. It covers many of the rumors about King and separates much of the facts from fiction. Many of the lies still told about MLK Jr. to this very day were born from Democratic administrations. Because they wanted to directly control who King spoke to. They wanted to control or destroy his movement. And if they were successful, it is possible that we would not be looking at this MLK-Day the same, if at all!

The Political Teen has video of Gore’s speech.
